  • I think the Kaluga (Huso dauricus) is larger than the Arapiama....The River Baluga get up to18 ft. and 2,200 lbs. They do spend part of their lives in saltwater like Baluga's do, but they are listed as a freshwater fish.

  • the Huso huso aka Beluga Sturgeon is larger. Growing up to 15ft and 4,400lbs

  • @justinlegend8800 Beluga Sturgeon is not considering a fresh water fish since they go out the sea at adult and only come back to the river to lay eggs!

  • @HungQDang I think all fish that spend part of there lives in freshwater are classed as freshwater fish. Just think of Salmon, like sturgeon Salmon spend there time in freshwater as young, and live out at sea as adults, only to return to freshwater to breed. Only salmon usually die, once they breed (although a few species return to the sea)

Also there are some populations of White Sturgeon that are cut off from the sea and are solely freshwater living.

  • @Sean0fenton sturgeon live about 5-7 years in fresh water until the mature, and then only come back to fresh water about 1 month each years to lay eggs! and they live like more than 100 years in the sea like bull-shark! so they mostly are salt water fish!

sturgeon can survive in fresh water like salmon, bull-shark, trouts ... for their hole life but they cannot reach their max size in fresh water!

  • @HungQDang I know what you mean, but Sturgeon and Salmon are still called freshwater fish because of the ability to survive in freshwater environments, almost all other saltwater fish can't survive in freshwater.

Also Sturgeon tend to stay in coastal areas and rarely venture into more deeper open water, so even when in the sea they are still fairly close to freshwater (rivers)

  • @Sean0fenton the thing is sturgeon spend most of their life in salt water! if you say fish that spend part of their life in fresh water should be classed fresh water fish, then fish that send parts of their life live in salt and brackish are salt and brackish water! Sturgeon can live in all of those environments!

Anyway, I believe that the classification is fresh water fish are fish that live their hole life in fresh water and cannot or barely survive in brackish and salt water!

  • @justinlegend8800 anyway, the record is 24ft and 3250 lbs for Beluga sturgeon!

  • Chinese paddlefish although t is uncertain if it is extinct or not is larger

  • o.O

  • aren't giant stingrays freshwater fish? they are bigger than these

  • @Wireman7620 hahaha I have a 30in Lima tiger shovel nose x red tail catfish it looks badass ur sculpture must look awsome. Unless that that kid lives in Germany or china the biggest cat fish he'll c is at max 150 lbs

  • @stevenslat k I don't fucking know him all I now is everything u have said makes y sound like a retarded dipshit and don't u worry I get more ass then u ever will, and come back when u can think of a better comeback

  • @stevenslat wow just shut the hell up and do the world a favor

  • @MrStewPadasle you shut the hell up what you tryin to protct ur wife ova there or what i mean really if you goin to protect ur little boyfriend wireman then go somewere else and but into conversations with him so YOU go do the world a favor and shut the hell up

  • Hehehe I haves a baby one he's in a 100 grow out then goin in a 1000

  • looks like a huge arowana :)

  • that fish is actually not big at all

  • Fresh Water FEESH!!!!

  • the song anyone ? :)

  • it looks like a giant pike

  • Actually i'm pretty sure the white lake sturgeon is bigger. they range from 5 ft 300 pounds to around 20 feet 1500 pounds.. They're on the endangered species list.

  • Actually its not the largest fresh water fish, that would be the chanel cat fish check it out.

  • chanel cats in the US are definately not that big but idk what kind of chanels ur talkin about

  • @szimako19 Channels only grow to 3 feet, not even close to the 15 feet arapaimas can reach. Channels are actually pretty small, even when comparing them to North American natives. Blue cats can reach 6 feet, sturgeon easily surpass 10 feet, paddlefish up to 7 feet, muskellunge to 5 feet, Alligator gar can easily reach 10 feet or more, and longnose gar to 6 feet. That's just North America.

  • @WireMan7620 actually alligator gar are easily passes 10 feet and can breathe air fresh and salt water it is a myth that arapima get 15 ft. it has never been recorded and the north americas largest fresh water fish is a tie of an alligator gar and a sturgeon alligator gar are more dangerous thogh it is cool to have a pet gar cause i have one and i feed him live bullseye snakeheadi catch in the canals

  • @stevenslat Where do you live?! It sounds like I need to check it out. I've seen Arapaima well over 10 feet before, and they are heavier that alligator gar. Gar are more spindle shaped and thinner than pimas.

  • @WireMan7620 i live in LA were there are the most recorded attacks on people by alligator gar ive seen alligator gar bigger than my 14 foot flat boat and it followed me to the dock then it bit my trolling motor and my dad shot it and it still live out the water for 2 days out of the water and then we lit it on fire it clinbed out the fie almost bit me but it got some teeth stuck into my hand and then my dad killed it with a 6 gauge and ill send a video and ill show u my scars

  • @stevenslat I would believe you if there WAS an attack record. I know for a fact they can only stay out of the water for an hour. Anything longer and they dehydrate. They're simply not an overly aggressive species. I've swam with large gar before and they show no interest in biting anything larger than themselves unless defending themselves or their eggs. The lesson here is to leave them be and you'll be fine.

  • @WireMan7620 hey dudue get your facts strait look it up were do you live south america cause if you do then you have probly been swimmin with little 2 footers in a tank so really be quite look it up then tell me wat u found out knowitall

  • @stevenslat I do a lot of research for my sculpture work. I aim to make my animal sculptures as realistic as possible, even though the medium isn't meant for realism. I travel to Mexico a lot and have swam with large rays, sharks, barracuda, and groupers. They're more curious than aggressive. I don't think a 12 year old has any place to be arguing with a college senior. Maybe you should do some research. I'm done with you.

  • @WireMan7620 actully the alligator gar is bigger than the arapima as i have have a pet 6 ft. gator gar that i feed live full grown bullseye snakehead and another fact about alligator gar is that like a snakehead they can slither on land i have shot one that was about to attack my brother that was at least 200 ft. off the canal

  • they say that the arapima gigas can grow up to 15feet in length i think they are over

exaggerating abit.Because the world largest ever caught was 9 feet. But most of them dont grow past 9 feet. The largest i ever caught was 6.2 feet in length yup she was an very old one. I love the weather here in south america.

  • it actually breaths air like us. so could be a reptile like a croc ,at 27 seconds years ago its fins could have been stumpy feet

  • macam kat underwaterworld langkawi ja!!!

  • Kalau macam ni kat langkawi aku dah pindah sana dah

  • It is the largest FRESH WATER fish.....

  • arapiama gigas is not the largest fish in the world. Its not the longest or heaviest either. I know the heaviest is the Mekong Catfish from Indonesia, and I think the longest is the wels catfish, but im not sure though.

Gave it 4 stars**** good video but there is misinformation.

  • Pretty sure that any of the worlds largest freshwater occur in China, such as the mekong cat. They get way bigger than Arapaima.

  • Mekong cats occur in Thailand, after the Mekong river. They are the largest species of fish to ever be caught with a rod, but arapimas exceed that length considerably

  • @blownable well actually i just watched river monsters guy catch a death ray which was larger than a catfish and thats just in freshwater if your talking bout with a pole in general then ppl have caught much bigger

  • is it a lungfis im pretty sure das a lungfish

  • lololololol................

  • That is definitely not a lung fish.

  • @harley7007 no, it is not a lungfish, it is an arapaima, although lung fish look similar in shape.

  • @harley7007 The Arapaima do breath air, just like the Alligator Gar and Snakehead. Just like the lungfish but, that is with out a doubt a Arapaima.

  • i hate big fish yikes

  • i really want 1

  • who made this song?

  • the band is called InMe. they have some great songs man

  • Holy crap! 15'!

  • umm yeah actually there are freshwater stingrays, and they are huge

  • retarded video

  • Why is he even talking about blue whales in the first place?

  • It's FRESHWATER. not Saltwater. And If you have ever been to Breaks, VA, go to Lake Flanagan. There have been some catfish caught outta that lake that are bigger than a Full size Chevy Silverado. No Bull. You've gotta go listen to the stories and see the pictures.

  • @travisclevinger09 They do get some large cats in Breaks. Not the most interesting fish they have over there, but certainly big. I don't think they're truck sized though. The river isn't as deep as it used to be.

  • @WireMan7620 I'm not talking about river fish. It's in the Lake. The lake wasn't always there. It used to be a town that in the early 40's got bought out and evacuated. Then after they knew noone was in it they flooded it and created the lake. Divers have been to the bottom to see if the vehicles that were flooded had any fuel or oil in them and when they looked in a superbeatle it got rolled over by a fish.

  • @travisclevinger09

Just the description of the scenery in that lake sounds awesome! I kinda want to get an underwater camera case and take some photos of this place. It sounds incredibly surreal! Blue catfish can get pretty big.

On another note, I think you'll like some of my sculpture work. I'm working on a 36" long tiger shovelnose catfish sculpture, and that's not including the whiskers.

  • whales are mammals, not fish, and this is the largest freshwater fish, not saltwater

  • Whales are mammals...

    You are THE idiot.

  • pritty

  • People are saying that a full grown fresh water stingray can take the title, sadly people have never got a full grown adult.

  • some ones a liar catfish are ive seen catfish 20 inch between the eyes

  • it looks very primitive

  • I'm pretty sure the catfish caught in Thailand is the largest freshwater fish.

  • these can be up to 450 pounds

  • yeah theThailand Mekong Catfish is the largest freshwater fish in the world. FOr those who don't know pls do some research before giving out wrong info. Bad education!

  • Actually, the Chinese paddlefish is the biggest freshwater fish in the world

  • if u are talking about catching fishes... right now, the biggest fish freshwater fish caught with a rod is a stingray

  • STINGRAY AREN't FRESH WATER LOOOL

  • some are stupid

  • Here we have an ignorant fool who doesn't know anything about animal outside of The Lion King.

But, hey! You did a great job of looking like an idiot. *clap*

  • they probably are the biggest fish, but not biggest freshwater fish caught on a rod

  • The Mekong catfish is the largest freshwater fish in terms of average weight, the Arapaima is the largest in terms of average length.

  • i thought the mekong was largest scaleless fish nat geo said

  • It is the largest scaleless but that doesn't mean it can't be the largest in terms of weight,

  • im sorry i wasn't contradicting your statement i was adding on to it sorry if you thought nso...

  • @skater629 they are not bigger than a sturgeon

  • @thug8200 sturgeons are not strictly freshwater either

  • I have to request that the title of this vid is changed. Arapaima are definitely not the heaviest or longest, lake sturgeon and chinese paddlefish both exceed 20 feet historically, and freshwater stingray is known to exceed 1,000 lbs. not to mention the mekong cat (650+) and land locked sturgeon of other species. There are more than a few species that far exceed the size of the arapaima and the search continues.

  • Comment removed

  • was that recorded at the Denver zoo or whatever its called?

  • actually a stingray caught by the national geographic team, weighed 990 pounds, but not nearly as long as a arapiama, so i guess it depends on your definition of "Large".

  • Inxsys is so ugly.

  • PaNdeMoniuM is an UGLY CUNT.

  • Comment removed

  • good for you

  • catfish can get pretty big too but this may have been posted a while back sooo

  • yeh people have officially found mekongs way longer

  • Some InMe on youtube! yay!

  • they are an endangered species in the amazon

  • mekong catfish are bigger then that..

  • Yes, but are they FISH?

  • dam i miss my Arapiama it was super nice in my tank but it jumped out when it was about a foot and a half long ='(

  • scary i ment

  • wow nice! they look scarol

  • amazing

  • that's a bloody big fish, we're getting one for our aquatics shop

  • How can you possibly house a 15ft fish? You can't, unless you own a 2000 gallon tank.

  • were getting one of the smaller ones, we couldn't afford a fifteen foot one!

  • The Alligator Gar, Giant Mekong Catfish, White and Beluga Sturgeon are all bigger than that fish and a bullshark you dumb fucks.

  • alligator gar gets 10 feet, giant mekong catfish gets 9 feet and white and beluga sturgeon are brackish. dumbass

  • wels catfish have been found in russia weighing in excess of 600lbs and 16feet long. thats only a few. there may be bigger ones. either way imagine catching that on rod and line. it would be impossible

  • here's the truth, the world largest freshwater fish is the white sturgeon, a record standing 20ft long pushing over 2,000lbs. =]

  • catfish is the largest freshwater fish. maybe not 15 ft, but the record is 646 pounds. a 646 pound arapaima would have to be like 40-50 ft long.

  • In truth no1 knows what the biggest freshwater fish is. There are rumours that there are cats as long as a school buses in various deep water lakes & rivers, but the only giant cat fish that poeple of caught is the mekong cat fish i belive

  • @yellozone the biggest catfish is a piriaba (spelling?) it can get to 16ft bigger than any mekong if i am correct

  • People talk about these huge cat fish but the biggest sturgeon caught were so much bigger. sturgeon are the largest

  • You actually have to read the description of the video. I was going to say something similar to what you did, but I think that the maximum length sturgeon grow to is around twelve feet or so.

  • officially there is a record of cat fish more larger than the arapaima, unofficially there has been a rumor that there are catfish as large as a young blue whale in Russia's lakes

  • Arapaima from Animal Crossing anyone?

  • i've seen catfish bigger than that...

  • the bull shark is the biggest that is the second sorry if i sound mean but im a the biggest shark fan n the world! =D! ok then bye bye and bull sharks rule!

  • Bullsharks are saltwater fish. They are able to survive in freshwater, but they come from the ocean.

  • That may be the biggest freshwater fish also may be one of the ugliest.

  • Bull sharks are saltwater, but once in a while swim up freshwater rivers for very short time. Spending 99.9% of there time in saltwater.

  • They are prolly the biggest AVRAGE SIZE freashwater fish in teh world but they catch massive catfish in the arksas river where i live, these things are littlery hundreds of pounds. they sit in front of the lock and dams and open thir mouths and eat like a fucking crocidile plus fighting the current force all day and night. but i wouldent eat one cus they look pinkish grey and nasty

  • if i dive, i wont want to meet the sunfish, arapaima, humboldt squid, colossal squid, giant squid, vampire squid, beluga and mekong giant catfish.

  • haha , vancouver aquarium

  • Sharks are fish "Class Chondrichthyes", so Bull Sharks would be the biggest and largest fish who lives in freshwater.

  • I would say this needs to be a little more specific. As in this is the LONGEST freshwater fish, because the Mekong (spelling?) Catfish weighs a whole hell of a lot more than this fish does, as do some other catfish.

  • Actually, the best catfish and alligator gar do is around 6-8 feet in length, and these are rare occasions... A fish like this that normally grows to 15 feet is astonishing!

Good video, and thanks for the info! :)

    - CK

  • wat an dumb ass u dont knoe shiet cat fish and gator gars and other fresh water fish is bigger u gay hole

  • thank you for your comment maylovedbsk. i see you have no videos posted yet. maybe you should start posting vids of your "proof" before commenting. easy say but easy do?

  • Your retarded catfish, gars, and tarpon get bigger than that dude.

  • wow...i didn't know that the tarpon is a freshwater fish u fucking asshole!!!!!;)

  • Is the meat ok ?

  • Mekong delta catfish get bigger than that

  • ur right and it is the fish tht has been identified by guiness book as the world's largest freshwater fish

  • Belugas and Kalugas (Sturgeons) are the largest freshwater fishes.

Belugas can grow up to 8.6m long and Kalugas 8-10m

  • A beluga is a whale or a dolphin.......

  • Yes mate, Beluga (Delphinapterus leucas) is the mammal ( a whale ) But I am talking about the 'Beluga Sturgeon' (Huso Huso)which is one of the largest fishes :)

  • Oh, My bad. That's kinda interesting. Still, The largest freshwater fish is a Catfish. Those monsters get to be like 10 feet long, The record is 2.7 meters. A sturgeon isn't a true feshwater fish, Therefore it doesn't count. They spend a great deal of time in salt water.

  • Well yeah, Kinda true, becouse the reports are uncormied about belugas:Unconfirmed reports suggest that belugas may reach a length of up to 8.3m (28ft) and weigh as much as 2700 kilograms (5,940lbs), making them the largest freshwater fish in the world, larger even than the Mekong giant catfish

And Kalugas:The Kaluga is a large predatory sturgeon found in the Amur River basin, they are claimed to be the largest freshwater fish in the world, with a maximum weight of at least 1000kg

  • *Note: Info taken from Wikipedia and some of my books* :D

  • Actually the sturgeon is the largest and you can catch them in kentucky.

  • It's face looks like my little betta's face.......Jumbo size.....=)

  • I know! I alaways thought like pirarucus and every says im dumb, finnaly someone who agrees I love those fish!

  • ok it somewhat resembles the body of arowana

  • Largest freshwater fish is the sturgeon?

Well thats what it said on john wilson's fishing adventure! That face could'nt tell a lie!

  • Sturgeon sometimes go from fresh to salt and vice versa so the largest actual freshwater fish is the mekong delta catfish

  • HOLY SHIT!

  • All information was researched on the internet for you. Most of the information was taken from Wikipedia and The National Geographic web pages.

  • Unconfirmed reports suggest that Beluga Sturgeon may reach a length of up to 8.6 m (28 ft) and weigh as much as 2,700 kg(5,940 lbs), making them the largest freshwater fish in the world, larger even than the Mekong giant catfish or the pirarucu. At this mass, the beluga would be even heavier than the ocean sunfish, generally recognized as the largest of bony fishes. But the largest actually confirmed specimens were about 5.5 m (18 ft)and weighed 589 kg(1300 lbs).

  • The Wels catfish, with a possible total length up to 3 m (ten feet) and a maximum weight of over 150 kg (330 lb), is the second largest freshwater fish in its region after the beluga sturgeon. However, such lengths are extremely rare and could not be proved during the last century, but there is a somewhat credible report from the 19th century of a wels catfish of this size.

  • The piraíba, also known as "lau lau" or "valentón", has a dark grayish back and sides with a white underbelly. It can reach a length of almost 13 feet and surpass 650 lbs in weight. The current record is 256 lbs on rod and reel, but larger specimens have been caught commercially.

  • The arapaima, pirarucu, or paiche (Arapaima gigas) is a South American tropical freshwater fish. It is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world, reportedly with a maximum length in excess of 3 m (9.8 ft.) and weight up to 200 kg (440 lb.).

  • yeah it rea;lly huge1 like a man! I was watch ,Touch and fish it(just kind of fun game)!

  • yer true

  • wels catfish are bigger too so are meekon catfish

  • ya sturgon are bigger

  • It looks like a huge beta fish.

  • Those fishes look goofy as hell.

  • this was taken at sentosa singapore!!! hahahahaha

  • Sturgoen are bigger

  • wat do u mean by "largest"???if its abt hw big they r in size, theres definitely other larger fishes

  • Largest freshwater fish species. Can get to 12'+.

  • dude....the biggest arapiama gigas ever caught is only 9.7 ft. do some research. the wels catfish is bigger than that....the record is 9.9 ft

  • wow that is huge !

  • does it mean that species of fresh water fish is the largest or that actual fish we just saw?

  • maybe its the biggest weight wise but in new jersey the state record carp is bigger than that

  • what a magnificent animal!

  • The Giant Freshwater Stingray of the Mekong is said to be possibly the largest freshwater species in terms of exclusive freshwater. The Giant Mekong Catfish is also said to be a largest fish contender. But Sturgeons are monsters

  • sturgoen arnt compltetly fresh water some live in salt

  • longest but largest freshwater I don't know... sturgeon can get much rounder and are about 13 feet long in some places.

  • Will they eat small, bathing Amazon children?

  • oly the ugly ones. haha jkk :]

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha

  • get rid of ur jk lol

  • these grow bigger than sturgeon, very rare fish though

  • idk, cant a sturgeon get bigger?

  • if u cut the jaws from the bottom like separate in middle and the toplike say an insect it'll look like an elite from ]-[ /-\ |_ (-)!!!!

  • I saw those at the washington dc zoo, amazonia exhibit. Wonderful exibit!

  • gigas aka snakehead invasive ps not all sturgeon make the trip out to sea. word!

  • either way its a gorgeous lookin fish well its colours are but its head is a very strange shape aint it

  • its in the arowana family

  • dumbarses, this species IS the worlds largest exclusive freshwater fish. And yes, for you smartypants out there, the Sturgeon is much larger, but they are not exclusively freshwater fish. The Sturgeon spend most of their lives at sea, and only swim into freshwater rivers to spawn.
