that looks so weird ,, i do think in real life it would leave a crater like the one at the sea of tranquillity, Plus we would be destroyed even if the moon looked like it did in the video cus of the whole gravitational force the moon puts on us. I just ruined the video I ? :-) ,, lol
What an incredible video. I wish so much that you bring a great sci-fi film back to the world. How can nobody recognize your extreme talent? Better than Hollywood!
Great work!!! May i ask what you do for a living? Just curious cause ya know the best people are usually found in small places. It would just fit! Your incredible! I hope this takes off for you!
what COULD have happen was that it's velocity was much, much, much higher than your average speeding London sized rock. I'd say it would be going at like 10000 miles per second to make that damage lol.
Outstandingly done, but like someone said, I think that the incoming object would have to be a lot bigger to make such a giant cut into the moon. But thats the fanwanker in me. Excellent!
Cool idea! Not so convinced with the execution. Looks very 2D, cut to neatly, no inner surfaces exposed, no marks on the surface, no secondary impacts.
Also quite unrealistic. The trench is way too deep. A tench like this would fill in. Planets & Moons are made up of quite loose material. An impact wouldn't leave such a trench anyway. It would be just a huge crater.
Thanks, I filmed the trees and stuff on a clear day, so I just keyed out the blue sky in premiere pro CS4 and used a blue colour matte with an opacity of 25% in front of the moon but behind the trees etc. So its all done with only 3 layers.

You're very talented. I hope you get employed soon to do this kind of work.

When I read the title, I thought it was about Earth having a new moon altogether.
Have you seen "The 5th element" film? Earth ends-up with a new moon (approx 2000 km) at the end of it.

how did you mask the leaf? thats one thing i have no idea how to do.

While it looks excellent as is, if that much of the moon was blown away, there would be a ring of debris left around either the moon or around Earth.

But it's a very ambitious project to get right.
