  • what is this shit?

Junior Murvin version is WAY better

  • @redkaap You like Junior, but lots of other people like the Clash's version better. They're each great versions, and if you don't like this than why not watch Junior's version?

  • People who cares which version is better! Listen to the words behind the song. I would think is a great thing that your getting a song in two genure of music to enlight the people. Do you really think the powers that control things sit down and argue which is better and what music sucks or black vs white NO its rich vs poor now. Enjoy the music for what it is! Music and enlightment.

  • a strummer bi-opic is to be made which i think should only cover the very early daysof the clash or it will be to easy to criticise

  • very good - could work today

  • "Police and Thieves" is a well known reggae song, first recorded in the Jamaican reggae style by the falsetto singer Junior Murvin in 1976 (Island WIP 6316), and one year later in a punk-reggae version by the The Clash. Murvin's first commentary was "They have destroyed Jah work!" (wikipedia/Police_and_Thieves) ...and that's exactly how i see it :)

  • @oonibbleroo fool

  • @oonibbleroo Than dont listen to it...idiots all think we want to hear what they have to say.

  • @oonibbleroo So fucking what if he didn't like it, bob marley and lee scratch perry both loved it, in turn bob mentioned the clash in one of his songs and the clash were the only white faces to apear on the wall of perry's famous jamacain studio, there were much bigger than junior murvin, if you get praise from the masters of the genre then the clash did alright.

  • @cpj93070 i've never attacked the clash as a band. i don't know why ppl are reacting this offensive agains the quotation from wiki which only discusses this particular song. the fact that punk and reggae had a lot of influence on each other as well as shared a lot of their fanbase is beyond all questions. but this cover of police and thieves is not playing in the same league as the original is...

  • @oonibbleroo so try saying the clash vs junior murvin who made the more legendary music who was the better band?

  • they're so goooooooooood... i love them so much.

  • Another one I've never seen before. Thanks!

  • hey this is before emo and this was sticking up for black people dumb fuck! and about 99% of punk people listen to reggae music the entire punk scene listened to reggae!!! get your facts straight dumbass this isnt emo punks against emo!

  • "people like this should make there own music"

You know nothing about music's rich history and it makes me sad. Do your research before you post ignant shit like that. I wish I could see your face when you finally learn who 'The Clash' is. It would be like the clouds clearing and we'd all have a better day. Instead you just dumb out. Until then, stay losing, clown.

  • i now understand sorry for my ignorance

  • twat, you're talking total bollocks, this was covered in 1977, before emo btw, and Punk and Reggae grew in London at the same time, together! So, get your facts right, knob cheese and take your racist shit elsewhere

  • It's too bad people can't just enjoy music and videos and the fact that these things were documented.

Everybody's more interested in putting each other down. Sad, sad people.

    Bye Bye.

  • i love the early stuff. their sound changed as the years went on better equipment etc..but the energy and pureness of the band is simply amazing to me anyway

  • this is awesome

  • lol what a pity .. gogo lee scratch perry version.

  • the quality of this video sucks, get the movie rudeboy and all the bonus shit if you can its got this whole concert, its kickass. i like the junior murvin version too but the clash are the best. i dunno why everyone doesnt like the high energy of the clash though

  • I certainly do, sir!

  • I think Michael Jackson and multitutes of breakdancers got the idea of the red zipper coat from this? lol.

  • It's cool how you can tell this is from '77 because Joe's Tele has fresh autobody primer on it. hehe.

  • its other guitar actually, the neck's different :)

  • Funny to hear the under twenty five crowd weigh in on how the Clash or any other early punk band suck. Guess you had to be there it appears. This to me at the time was pure unfiltered rock music, still is. There is a 50/50 chance that bobxbones is fat and still lives at home doing nothing worth talking about. Sad, boring little fucks.

  • dude, im 16 and love the fuck outta these guys. just because there are some ignorants out there doesnt mean all under 25 people is.

The Clash rocks my sock : )

  • true

i agree but sort you're fucking grammar out and maybe people will take you seriously

  • Sorry to be pedantic but it should be 'your' not 'you're' ;)

  • im 14 and love the clash, the ramones, etc!!

  • Good for you MandyyCooL

  • @MandyyCooL Great, but why does announcing ur age make a difference?

  • wack shit....the raggae one is way better..

  • you keep shit to yourself

  • whether you like my opinion or not, it's youtube

everything is fair game here...grow a pair and quit whining

  • bobxbones, you clearly know f**k all about punk. You weren't even born until 11 years after it happened.

  • and you are a pretentious elitist fuck.

true...i was born at a point in time when the movement became little more than an afterthought but thats irrelivent.

I've done endless research, listened to coutless bands and obscure ones at that,I live the DIY aethos and i'm active in my local punk rock scene.i'm working on a book about the emergence of the early punk rock scene and the influence that seminal glam rock bands had on it onto the Batcave,Deathrock and hardcore scenes that evolved from it

  • I hope you can find someone able to spell and punctuate your book for you.

I stand by my original assertion that you clearly know fuck all about real '70s punk.

  • Listen Bobxbones. I am trying to appeal to your sensible side. You are writing a book so you must be an intelligent man. This was 1977. These days, you can buy a cheap Chinese made guitar for about £100 that sounds better than most gear that was available in the 70's. The recording equipment was as bad bad also. If the Clash were around today, the quality of their live sound would be equivalent to a band like Green Day, but with better songs. As an intelligent man, you should understand this.

  • @bobxbones That was most likely the Sex Pistols actually

  • Their target audience didn't know any better...

  • pump up the volume!!!

  • THE CLASH ARE THE BEST!

  • aw, your just a drunken idiot

  • good...but Junior is Junior

  • einfach nur geil hach the clash is geil!

  • great video, except the volume is all fucked up. Whats is from??

  • Munich 1977, dvd as extra with Rude Boy - full gig
