I just watched this today for the first time in, wow, maybe twenty years. All I had remembered was, "If there is a way in, there is a way out!" and the scene where she flies with the lampost. But, wow, there was much more to it then that.
And I actually don't think the movie was that bad...little campy, plot holes, but it set out what it wanted to do. As I got to the end, I felt bad that "Her First Adventure", ended up being her last!
The movie was ok. But, if richard donner had directed supergirl, it would of been awesome. It's a shame he didn't get to finish superman 2. They could of definitely used his skills in superman 3 and 4.

Helen Slater was great as Supergirl. They found the right actress, and put her in a ill-written movie. The movie itself sucked, but Helen flying around as Supergirl was the best!

There is, as I have heard, another Superman movie in the first stages of production. If it does well, perhaps Supergirl has a chance, however remote.

I haven't seen this movie in a good ten or fifteen years. I'd forgotten how impressive that flying sequence was.
I loved the way Helen Slater looked in that blue costume: pure, virtuous and beautiful. Too bad the movie wasn't worthy of her, or of the character.
Slater's career seemed to suffer the "curse of the cape", too. It's unlikely any actress will take on the role again in our lifetime. :(
