I really believe that if the President wanted Beyonce to sing they should have done this. I'm sure they picked Beyonce because she was "The music face for Black Power Women" and I'm sure they told Beyonce that she was to sing "At Last". Thats the song that was approved and it fit the occasion. But The First Family should have made sure that Etta James was there to share this moment and they should have had both Beyonce and Etta James sing it together to show where we have come from in America

Her videos of late are vulger and his are always about his money and what an idiot he can be come time to spend it. There was also all the nonsense the birth if their child. The 'Original' Etta James version of this song is a classic. It stirs peoples hearts and takes us back to that moment when we first met 'that' person. The Beyonce version at best reminds us that Etta James made this song a hit; a hit that Beyonce can not duplicate. We still love Etta. Etta's best in her prime could in no way be rivaled by Beyonce. That said, her prime is long past.
Problem is that Etta should've been offered the chance to sing her signature song herself. She's a living legend who deserves the same honor given to other great female singers like Aretha & Tina. She unfortunately doesn't have the mainstream exposure they do and she likely never will if they didn't even want her to perform for Obama. It's sad. Had the fortune of seeing Etta James live at the Mtl Jazz Fest a few years ago and she's still absolutely amazing.

I really believe that if the President wanted Beyonce to sing they should have done this. Although I love, love, love Etta James' version of the song, she doesn't have the right to be pissed off at Beyonce. 1) Although Etta made the song famous (again) it was originally written in 1941 by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren. The first big hit version was performed by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra. 2) Beyonce did a great job of playing her in the movie 3) Beyonce is not trying to claim that she owns the song at all 4) Beyonce had done some wonderful tributes to Etta previously.

Beyonce may have not wanted to upset Ms E James but we should do more research (especially if that person is living) before putting something out there that reaches millions of people. A little more respect should go with that admiration. Etta should speak display her upset a little more respectful. Want to be respected, then we should show respect.

The 'Original' Etta James version of this song is a classic. It stirs peoples hearts and takes us back to that moment when we first met 'that' person. The Beyonce version at best reminds us that Etta James made this song a hit; a hit that Beyonce can not duplicate. We still love Etta. Etta's best in her prime could in no way be rivaled by Beyonce. That said, her prime is long past.

Problem is that Etta should've been offered the chance to sing her signature song herself. She's a living legend who deserves the same honor given to other great female singers like Aretha & Tina. She unfortunately doesn't have the mainstream exposure they do and she likely never will if they didn't even want her to perform for Obama. It's sad. Had the fortune of seeing Etta James live at the Mtl Jazz Fest a few years ago and she's still absolutely amazing.

Beyonce is nothing but a vulgar singer, her performance does not even compare with Etta's. There is no grace in her performance, only voice.
- Beyonce has nothing to do with classic soul, she insists on using her loud voice where she should be more quiet. She lacks the grace needed for such a beautiful song like "At Last". She had to sing this song, because the organizers did not care for any of her songs.

Etta James was just fine with it when it was all in her honor, great performers but I don think Etta should be at all upset at Beyonce for singing that song for the president. She gave her the rights to sings it, I mean she is portraying her in a film and Obama most likely requested Beyonce. Etta James will always be Etta James. Beyonces still climbing that ladder, she's still leaving her mark. Etta should be proud of Beyonce's success and by the mere fact that Beyonce chose her song to sing.

@MrMusicalbumuploader spare me. The woman didn't even write the lyrics to "At Last" or modernize (ahem, at least one individual churned out a hit to it well before Etta, as in Frank Sinatra). So until evidence suggests her brainchild dreamed up every word, stanza, etc. no it's hardly "her song" but one drafted by someone well before her and collaborated upon by numerous singers. Besides, hearing her sing it on DWTS years ago, it's understandable why they didn't ask her. She ONCE sang it well.
