It is junk like this that keeps me using a $5 hand can opener, they last like 20years before getting dull and even then you can sharped them. Hope you can get your money back.
i had to suffer the fate of a cheap shit durabrand surround sound system, it SUCKED! whenever the master volume went up past a certain level the subwoofer would make very horrible blairring noises and the system was VERY sensitive to interference, any time i would turn on a light or plug something in it would make a loud popping sound out of the speakers and it would pick up cb radios loud and clear, but luckily for me i got a new philips dolby digital home theater to replace the durabrand shit
oh yeah and that motor nearly caught fire, i took it apart and the motor had the same cheap plastic motor bearing as yours just smaller, oh well, didnt even move any air! we need to start building quality machines again!
I like to go to wal mart when ever I get the chance and see what bull shit well, shit they try to sell us. I look at that crap and laugh, then shake my head in dissapointment and think "why in hell would any one buy this shit?" . My favorite is the ceiling fan and car audio displays lol. Not becuase I like them, but they are fun to laugh at.
That thing does sound like crap. Thought my $10 Sunbeam (looks similar) was cheap until I saw this. At least, it has metal bearings, and only 1 plastic gear. The can driving gear is better too, it's smaller but thicker; yours looks like sheet metal. I've been abusing it for 2 years; I'll be surprised if it lasts 2 more. My rule is to avoid any model that's unique to Walmart, even if it has a "brand" name (whatever that means). Suppliers HATE WM and don't worry much about pleasing WM customers.
hahaha, my parents ran into the CHEAP CRAP thing today
they bought one of those fancy stremlined "drink mixers" basically a blender with a spigot at the bottom I guess they used it like one time before, and my step dad was going to make smoothies (yum) and he started it and it stripped out the PLASTIC assembly for the blade
update, I went to the thrift store and bout a Hamilton Beach cabinet mounted can opener for 2.50 and it's nearly brand new, it's probably from the 90s or something
I had a TV that was by Durabrand, after about 3 months the video input stopped working, just shorted out for no reason whatsoever rendering the TV useless as I only use the A/V connections!
vintage is so much better, i hate modern crap, it just breaks, you see i have a theory, in the old days of products, they had a better build quality, and the products lasted longer (cars/appliances) the way the company's got you to replace your old toaster/fridge or car what ever was style, the company's would change style, then the consumer would throw away or sell and replace for brand new products, the new way, is it breaks then you buy a new one, stuff hardly falls out of style these days
Everything is all about money now. There is no morality anymore when it comes to manufacturing products.
Plain and simple, they want you to buy their product, have it break within months and (if you're silly enough) buy another one.
It's all big production scam that is almost unavoidable these days unless you can possibly buy the product you want vintage (early 1980's or earlier).
I saw this unit at wally world today for about 7 bucks. They also had a durabrand stand mixer for 15. all it had going for it was a stainless steel bowl.
Ya, but at least the motor in the record player doesn't get too hot to touch after running for more than 30 seconds. This one will probably catch fire if I leave it on long enough.
Ugh, Durabrand, we have those here too, only sold in Asda which is as they say "Part of the Wal*Mart family", and in my opinion, Durabrand is about as durable as dropping an egg from the roof of a 10-storey building!!!
It's awful to see how cheap things are getting year after year. That rear motor bearing was ridiculous! I wonder if it even has a bearing on the front or does the shaft just rest in the back one?
I just took the motor out to have a look... The front bearing is made out of the same material, but is even smaller! It is just an insert pressed into the white plastic housing, and is only about 3/32" I.D. and 1/4" O.D.
Oh my...you can tell there's a lot of bearing friction because the motor comes to a dead stop instantly when it shuts off. What about the temperature rise of the winding, have you noticed if it gets hot fairly quickly? I have a theory that they might not have used very much wire in the motor coil.
i bought a cheep hand mixer at target to make cookies with without getting out the sunbeam. well first use after about a minute in the batter the motor caught fire. ended up taking a melted blob of plastic back to target instead of a mixer lol. that night went to an antique store and bout a mid 40s mixmaster jr best handmixer ever no cheep plastic there.
Just don't make 'em like they used to...and I think some of the manual can openers are like that too, the gears end up not meshing right and the thing pretty much is unusable.
We've got an older Black & Decker Spacemaker, and it's old, but it still opens cans as it should. Motor sounds pretty good in it too.
And yea, we finally know what you look like now! After all this time I spent wondering...:P
Durabrand... funny how on cheap things like that, they always give them names like "durabrand", like they have to announce that it's of quality.
Like how spatsbear2 mentioned in one of his videos, about how cheap electronics come in full-colour, fancy boxes, while more high end electronics come in plain brown boxes, or with batteries with names, such as "super energy", and crap like that.
Real high end stuff doesn't need frills to let people know how good they are.
"cheap electronics come in full-colour, fancy boxes, while more high end electronics come in plain brown boxes"
This is SOOOO true! I never realized it until you said it, and it got me thinking about all the crap I've bought compared to all the good stuff, and you're right! :D
only thing i can believe it's quality are only lithium batteries. it was ULTIMATE LITHIUM and it did last me like 1/2 year worth of pics. although i gotta say alkaline batteries are crap!!!
but yeah, you are right. i have an older Toastmaster can opener and hadn't let us down since
i swear, every time i watch this, i can't help but snort a little at how it sounds. you can just hear the plastic gears crying in sheer agony.

Durabrand is sold in the UK by ASDA (owned by Walmart).
It's definitely cheap and nasty stuff.

And WHY are they using a C-FRAME motor for this? Don't they belong in something bigger?
That's a waste of money.

I think it should be a crime to sell any thing this cheap. Have strict quality standards.

...and they call it Durabrand. Kinda like Seld-M-Break.
The motor looks like something you'd find in an RCA 45 rpm player.
