hi im an inspiring firefighter and i have a few questions... 1: i keep on hearing on the radio "on delta side, on A side ect." how is it determined what side is wich? 2: i hear fire-tac a lot. what does that mean? thanks, justin
side A is the address side of the building(street side)
then going clockwise you have side B (in this case the left side) then keep going clockwise C would be the back and D would be the right..just remember a is address side and go clockwise from there. some departments use 1,2,3,4 instead of a,b,c,d, the the concept is the same
in this video he is saying fire attack-this would be the first team with a hose to spray water on the fire
I love the fact that the Chief is in his CP. It reflects in the calm command presence that he has. I work for a department, where we are lucky to have 9 personnel on scene of a working fire, so the IC is rarely in one place. Its nice to see a well run fre scene, where the players all know their parts! Thanks for all of your posts chief!
Chief did exactly what a chief does: Scene Management. He already did his time on the fireground. The Captains are responsible for initial size up and continuous status reports. Take a look at your own SOG's...
What a bunch of wannabe arm chair QB's!! The Chief did exactly what a commanding officer on the fireground does or at least is supposed to do. He sat in his COMMAND vehicle and orchestrated the incident like he should've. Why get off to look at something and get in the way when other officers can relay that info. Good job !!
you guys complaining about the chief not getting out of the command vehicle ....... dont be jealousl. the crews on this fire know exactly what they are doing no matter if the chief is out or not. stop monday morning quarterbacking other peoples fires and get a job with a real fire department.
get out the car and do a size up of the house and go and find out what is burning for your self and stop waisting gas and got out of the air conditioned none for the other firefighters are in it that is really sad that you have to sit in there
The command is doing what a commander should do COMMAND, and not get in the way of the line officers. He is doing his job. In command classes you are learn to stay away from the engines and fans.
This Commanders did it right. There was a capt. already present on scene, so he didnt have to do a scene size up. He orchestrated the attack perfectly and didnt get in anybodys way. Part of the perks of being high rank is doing your job in A/C...lol
great video..I love how you keep asking whats burning in the back? Why you wouldnt you get out of the air-conditioned command vehicle & take a peek at it is beyonde me! Be Safe
If I would have been on scene first that would have been a no-brainer. However, the Captain from the engine company was standing in a perfect position to see it. Seems pretty logical that he is in a better position to see it and all we need is for him to relay it as a part of his siz3-up. Be Safe too.
Are you a chief?

I still have never heard of a Chief sitting in a car being IC. I think it is a bit ridiculous.

@7089540230 Because command is supposed to stay in one place that is why he is not going around bACK
