I have never seen anyone just eat straight up cream of mushroom soup...we cook with it all the time, here in the south, but never just eat it like that guy was doing.
And, I forgot how ugly some of the cars were in the 1980's. Especially American cars.
After watching the "Irish Spring Soap" commercial, I'll make sure to remember that if I ever become a bar of soap and try to get a career in acting, to remember to go to the toilet before the taping of a commercial.

1986 was probably not a good time to release a light-hearted movie about an accident involving the space shuttle.
I don't think I recognized one person in that "Star Games" ad (though I did go back to confirm that, yes, that was Ted Knight).
Neither of those political ads was particularly effective. Ed Zschau got the GOP nomination, but lost to incumbent Alan Cranston that November. Meanwhile, Prop 51 passed by a wide margin.
It's an old term to describe a team of unofficial advisers to a President. Reagan's kitchen cabinet was a group of ten to twelve rich California businessmen.
greeeeen acres is the place to be, if you dont' vote for 51 you see. keep the land spreading out so far and wide or i'll find you and stab you in your side!
Holy crap! My grandfather had that EXACT Thunderbird in the Ford Fever commercial! I looooved that car when I was a kid, I used to pretend I was a celebrity riding in back of it. ;) Don't ask me why, I dunno. Too cool to see it here!
Also current KGO-TV' announcer Richard Gebhardt at 5:10 is doing the Voiceover work Here in this San Francisco Minute promo! A San Francisco Minute series probably lead to Bay Area Backroads in the 1990s
Bay Area Backroads debuted in 1985, a year before this was taped, so I don't think that's the case. Back when Doug McConnell was hanging out with waterskiing squirrels on Mac & Mutley. San Francisco Minutes was a weird interstitial that could only appeal to tourists who didn't get KRON anyway.
Wikipedia says Thompson was at KRON from 1982 to 1990.
I just had a class today that talked about how you can learn more from advertisements about an era then you can from anything else. I immediately thought of all these volumes. IT'S SO TRUE!!!
Thanks again for the post. I was starting to worry!
I think that KRON was actually an NBC affiliate. BTW, do you have anything from when game show host Pat Finn was a weatherman at KRON any promos or anything?
KRON was the NBC affiliate from it's startup until December 2001 when then ABC station KNTV took the affiliation. KRON was Chronicle's flagship station until Young destroyed the station's image in November of 1999 which ultimately led to it's NBC demise.
Tell me you noticed either Lea Thompson or Tom Skerritt in that Space Camp promo and simply neglected to mention it in the description. I remember watching that movie in 4th grade or so. I was taken to a classroom I'd never been in before and made to watch it for some reason with a bunch of kids that weren't in my class... it was kind of a frightening experience, now that I think about it.

The model in the Vidal Sassoon ad is also featured heavily in the 1986 video for the single "Is It Love?" by Mr. Mister.

There's no doorknob on Juan Valdez's front door.

At this time, KRON aired Jeopardy! at 4:30 PM weekdays and the previous season episodes aired on Saturdays at 7:30 PM.

PS, who's the guy in the San Fransico Minute? I know his voice or something. Maybe it's from my childhood, but did he do something else?
athleticsgirl23 3 years ago
Mark Thompson has done a ton of voice over stuff, especially shows with videos of people getting hurt, but now he hosts Hole in the Wall on Fox.
