I don't like how a couple times you start, for a second, to try and impart some impressive knowledge about canon, but basically end up saying, "because Canon's known for stuff like that". Be honest and real H mo.
what sort of procedure would i have to follow to burn the films to DVD, whilst retaining as much quality as possible. I understan that i can't keep HD on a DVD but.....
@patrickmanning94 Make sure the video is not bigger than the size of the DVD. You could also render it as 6mbps instead of the default playback of 17mbps wont ruin alot of quality :P
Thankx, this was very useful. Was wondering what the contents of the box would be when mine comes. Any idea about the software which comes along? Does it convert AVCHD into other formats?
I'm not sure, but I think he's using Mac's built-in iSight and in iMovie he has chosen for 'Upload to YouTube', so it's not really with settings and so. I am by the way not sure!
600$ for the HD100, its the EXACT SAME CAMERA, only a different camera and had internal 16gb storage witch costs you 150$ more... or you can just buy a 16 GB CS card for 40$
Its the same exact camera, just with built in memory. Make a wise choice
Go to google .. type in canon hf10 . look for "shop digital direct" they are selling it for 379(special sale not going to last to long) but they have different package deals they are completely affordable compared to retail stores..
im confused,, i love this camcorder and am planning on buying it... what i find unusual is, if its capable of recording at full hd resolution(1080p) why doesn't it have an hdmi output to view things at full hd resolution(1080p).. all it has is component out which only goes up to 720p.. how do i make videos or dvds or even watch it on my hd tv in true HD(1080p)???
im surprised that canon HF10 uses th joy stick navagator like JVC canon must of copy the jvc joy stick and canon hg10 uses a dial wheel ill stick with canon fs100 better quailty
ha, nope. basically, i've been in need for a good digital camera - so I got the SD790. the family was in need of a good camcorder - so we got the Vixia HF10. Canon's cameras/camcorders are the best quality and usually the best in their field, so we got the Canons.
mini dv tapes are a major hassle. I used to have a Sony camcorder that used them and it gets really annoying having to find new ones or having to tape over them. with flash or an SD card, you just sync it to the computer and can burn it to a DVD and all that good stuff. Mini DV's are just annoying to use, because you either don't have a tape and you have to go over footage, or you need to have tons of tape at home. SD cards = great and quick. Memory cards/hard-drive is better than mini-dv tapes.
To Michelle1920....Go look at the Vimeo site and type in HF10 or HF100 and look at the quality (even compressed). Mini dv tapes are expensive in comparison and will go the way of 8-track tape soon. Using a combination of SD cards and inexpensive DVD disks to archive your movies, it makes it very cost effective AND much easier to use and eventually manipulate with a computer and the necessary software. Software companies are catching up.
i think HDR-XR520V SONY is much better.

Can you pause during a recording then start recording again on the same video? To do certain movie magic tricks like disappearing and appearing.

Does this camera have a hot shoe?
avrillavigneissexy 3 years ago
yes it has hot shoe towards the back of cam
ScottLewisNJ 3 years ago
Yes, but the hot shoe is a Mini hot shoe, so you will need an adapter for any accessories that are not new canon accessories.

I have a few questions my friend???
1. What program are you using for editing videos?
2. Is it easy or hard to transfer vid's to regular p.c?
3. Do you know is the quality of picture is the same to HV20&30 Or" better? Or less?
I need to buy one by friday & can't decide on which to go with.
HV20 or 30, HF100 or HG10?
Thanks for the help!!!
btw: nice camera

@blargkaboom Does your vixia HF 10 have an automatic zooming issue? Cuz it's happening to mine.
Every time I zoom, it zooms all the way more.

it's really good looking camera. but it's not good camera for preserving memories unlike mini dv tapes.
