  • I sugest using black paper like i did. It may take more work, but you can feel safe about the whole toxic paint fumes.

  • this helped like crazy cause i had to start my last mintue solar cooker project.!

  • Yeah, let's take advice from a hippie with a giant wad of shit in the back round!

  • @seks03 Really? Naming it such suggests a degree of faddishness anyway, as does their slick website. And perhaps it is a good reason to avoid using the term, anyway ... Not that the Cubans have been doing this kind of thing for decades without trying to turn it into a brand to be marketed ... F*** 'em tbh. Keep on keeping on.

  • mind = blown

  • hello can i order one raw pizza please?

  • can u use any sort of aluminum foil and glue or do u need a specific one, if so please tell me what

  • Saw your family documentary at the San Francisco documentary film festival this past year...very cool.

Have to chuckle at all the irony of this video...

-A pizza box? Yeah, cuz folks who order pizza delivery are the most likely candidates to use solar energy to cook???

-And then WHAT you decide to cook once you've built it? The same over-processed "food" that came in the box to begin with...yup, you guessed it...Pizza.

    Hilarious!

  • Interesting, but why would spend all that time (which is energy to some of us) when you can get something like the Flat Pak biocompostable pizza tray which can cook anything in a standard oven up to 525 degrees. Cheap, ecofriendly, and MUCH less time and energy wasted to get your food faster and still help the environment. Look them up at flatpak _ net.

  • @paincorp "In a Standard Oven" I think is the difference here. What if I don't own, or want to own, a standard oven? This is a great idea for boondockers who want to cook anything up to 275degrees.

  • Wow! 275 degress! That's amazing.

Living in a hurricane area, this would make a great part of our hurricane supplies, not to mention the missed opportunity to purchase more propane. ;)

    Oh darn!

Video very well done with all the great details.

    Thank you!

  • i got mine up to 226

  • awesome! I just Cheated our science Project! :)

    haha.

  • that easy nice!...I'm tying this before the sun goes!!!

  • lol hippy chick

  • ok im soo doing this for my science project :D

  • I will have to make that! Thanks for showing us how to do it!

  • ITS A MONSTER AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

  • JK..........

  • I think I would use more energy driving to the store getting the products....also you are going to have to throw that away after a while so there is trash...if you do not recycle it all....not to include the energy it took to manufacture the items you are using....sooooooo I will stick to a few mins in the oven.

  • You go to the store anyway so you just get it when you go...no waste of gas.

    Everything gets thrown away eventually.

Using it over and over offsets the original production energy.

If everybody didn't use the oven for that 5 minutes, there would be a huge energy savings.

    Also, it's a survival item.

  • actually you would still use more energy with the oven...

  • yeah, id have to agree with you corduroy99...she is cute!! Thats the type of girl i would like to meet someday!! The Dervaes family rocks!!!!

  • gosh darn it, that girl presenting the video is SOOOOO HOT!!!!! that oven has nothing on her!

    Dang! She's cute!

  • you can always use a black pan dish

  • use black construction paper instead of black paint for the bottom of the box...much more non toxic lol

  • Does it still work the same with black paper

  • it did for me!

  • well you must be a hillbilly tramp then

  • what? haha, it was an in class science experiment for school

  • OH LOL MY BAD

  • hi, just asking about the cooker----how long did it take to finaly cook???

  • ummmm it depends...20 minutes? haha that was with pop tarts

  • i have a question how long do i put it out for???

  • Great idea! I'm going to try this project this summer when it is too hot to use my indoor oven. Thanks for sharing! =)

  • Ok, so they put a warning for the sharp object, but no warning for the non-toxic paint. >.>

  • MMMMMMMMM, paint flavored pizzas !

  • look inside your oven at home, im pretty sure you will discover paint in there too.

  • I looked, and I'm pretty sure I discovered a high temperature ceramic surface.

  • another words paint.

  • ceramic withstands hi temps and does not out gas voc's like the paint used in this case.

  • hrmm stove bright paint, with flames as a logo I wonder if it can withstand high temps.

this paint is fine to use as long as you allow its curing time.

"Stove Bright high temperature paint will revitalize that dreary fireplace or wood stove. This high temperature paint is perfect for wood stoves, fireplace inserts, radiators, engines, auto exhaust, manifolds, mufflers, barbecues, and anywhere else where high heat is a factor. Tested to 1200 Degrees."

  • You are correct, this paint will work for hi temps, however they will not not pass an fda inspection applied to internal oven surfaces, you are missing the point, paints OUTGASS volitile substances when temps rise, even after curing, these hi temp paints flake off and can contaminate baked items.

  • o, ok if your that worried you also better stop breathing too, all cars produce the same gas.

  • i have to do as home work im in 4th

  • That is awesome, thank you!

  • That better be non-toxic paint!

  • how long does it take to cook?

  • This is just great! Very interesting, can it be reused?

  • yes

  • very cool save the environment !! yay =)

  • Excellent!!! As you can see I love innovation with Pizza Boxes!! Best of luck.

  • I actually made that for a school project and cooked marshmallows on it :D, used Pizza Hut - box by the way.

  • hi natalie

  • hi chas

  • i'm doing that for a science project

  • Great Idea!

  • Intrigued by your name, I checked out your youtube page. Awesome pizza box!

  • @dervaes. can i cook a whole pizza with that/???????????? and do i have to wait for a few day for the paint to dry?????????

  • would be a good class project

  • It needs to be pointed out that you must use NON toxic spray paint! This oven cannot be used until the fumes have been cooked out of the oven before food can be put in! Safer paint for quick use is black tempera or acrylic paint, and use a black plate to cook food on.

I have been solar cooking for 2 years now, and this video needs to have warnings about using spray paints that can be toxic!

  • Anais, here. Thanks solarcookingnut for your comment.

I'm also a decade old solar cooking enthusiast and have been using solar ovens since I made my first sun oven back in the mid 1990's.

Since this piece was edited by Hallmark Channel I had no control of was left in or out of the piece. Unfortunately the warning about using non toxic paint was left out and is, like you said, what folks need to know.

  • ¡Awesome! I had already seen many solar cookers but the nice thing about this one is the simple, nice fast... what can I say? I´m doing it in a few hours.

  • Very smart. :)
