I just came back for another watch of this... I recorded it and played it to a couple of mates who both loved it....one of them actually did a cover of it at a gig on thursday night ,,,but it didn,t have the emotion that is present here.........
@electricragtime thanks Kev, So far all the reposes have been good. Who would of thought, since this was unplanned, and so spontanious. I was actually working a Townes vanzandt song out, when this was the result.. Did you record the performance from your Mates the other night? I'd love to hear someone elses take on this.. Later, Jeff
@1Jisom No Jeff sorry I didn,t record my mate covering your song.... but if I get another chance in the near future to record ...I will and send it to you....Kev
@Eliot977 I know, sounds like something you could relate too.. Thanks Eliot. This is the first original song, that has got any attention. It's funny, because I would of never guessed it. I have several that I think are better, But I guess I'll take it anyway I can get it. The secret must be to not care about it!! he he.. Jeff
Song composition excellent and leaves me with a feeling of an ethereal complexity of past events. Possibly to sickening to relate in the words of Bruce Cockburn and actually this reminds me of him. Loved it *************
@Mariekesone Why Thank you Marie. That is real cool of you to say. This one just flew out of me that morning. I just finished the lyrics. Hit record, and let her fly. Scary when it happens like that. I see you are from New Zealand. Hope all is well. Did you feel the big one? That must of been real scary.. I almost feel this song has a bit of meaning for all the helpless souls lost in that horrible Quake.. So sorry.. Jeff
Lovely guitar...and your voice fits perfect the puzzle in the dark....There is a paradox working through the softness that entwines with the powerfulness here...lightanddark...is no one there?
One word. Beautiful. :-) OK, I lied. Just a few more words. Your vocals are a mix again of Young/ Lamontagne/YOU, and both your vocals and playing are so emotive. Love this one!! You are twice lucky now? 2 recordings IN the house? LOL!! Blessings, min :-)
@practicing4 Thanks Min, you have a way of describing things, I appreciate every word.. This was one of those spontaneous recordings.. You are right, but don't you think I got away with it, I'm back to the Cave..
@jbstrummer I think My room here is a bit too bright for this one, Even though it came to me right here.. Might have to go to the cave, and shut all the power off...
@jinglejangle1871 Thanks Evelin, I was doing more little fills before i hit record, But was missing quite a bit, Fat fingering the wrong strings. I'm getting a bit better at it now. A different style than I'm used too. Good change up, keeps it fresh..
@marcoferrikito Thanks Marco, I'm actually a pretty happy guy, for the most part.. hey you back in good ol China? Watch your ass over there man.. Jeff
@1Jisom I have been in Hong Kong for 1 week, so I've come back to my chinese home just yesterday. Anyway China treat me very well. Keep on writing song Jeff, you do it well. Ciao
@theMonk1 Don't let it go to your head man, but you have opened me up to that sound, and I see why you do it. A whole new animal, with the same guitar.. I see alot of guys use that thumb pick, I got one of those, it is really awkward, It doesn't klick with me. doesn't feel natural enough to stay with it. I can see it would make hitting individual notes alot easier, than fat finguring them, but practice makes perfect.. and missing now and then sounds good too.. He he.. Jeff
cool man. It looks like you've been playing that way for a while. I've had the same experience with the thumb pic, never felt right to me. But the bare fingers feels very natural. I like just picking up a guitar and going at it, no amp, no pick etc... More dynamics this way too.
I think it was Neil's Silver & Gold dvd that opened my eyes to playing more without a pick..
Really nice and gentle Jeff. Obviously your feminine side coming through. I like the chord choice and the occasional little flicks you put in. Good stuff!
Hey, what's happened to the man-cave - I hope you haven't been tidying up and decorating!
@raffaport I know, It is crazy what a guy does, when he is left unsupervised for a few days..it was alot easier to hang in a clean house, then the cave sometimes, but I still got busted. Must of been all the empty Beer cans, and the dirty dishes, that got me.. Not to good at covering the tracks!!
fantastic --like the roughness in your voice and the simplicity of the lyrics and yet it's also a little suspenseful: you want to know where it's going to go.
That was excellent Jeff....its a place we have all been at some time or other....the emotion poured out of you man....you definitely do not need to be doing NY covers if you can write stuff like this
Very Nice, Very Dark, Very me. Sort of a song that brings in the winter, a bit of ice and snow, and I wrote that before noticing the window in your home and the ice laden trees and snow.... It is not a TZV unless you fit at least one line about the pain....
Example, Darkness is a scary thing, but it helps me get through the pain.
So frickin cool. I love the melody you mix in along with the chords in the intro. And then to find a way to sing over all that without it sounding like a garbled mess,...awesome. Is it literal, or just a feeling. The lyrics I mean.
Very Nice ballad Jeff ~ Very different than your usual stuff ........... It wasn't the bang on the head was it ?.......... Sorry Jeff .... i couldn't resist that .......
Very well done!
Great job!
Thumbs up!
