It is a ground effect vehicle designed to lift just a few feet from the surface. Intrgueing but not really that practicle as it would be useless in rough seas. Hitting a high wave at speed would be like hitting concrete.

@nixonvazz Hi. As I understand it all the original ones got scraped. But a civilian prototype is sitting in a hanger half finished and has been for 20+ years. Its about the size of a jumbo jet and could carry over three hundred people. Small versions are being made by several companies world wide and the Americans carried out several evaluation studies in the 90s to look at the possibilities for use. But it is a bit of a dead end tec and no one has come up with a commercial use for it to date.

The person who is commentating it from the history channel said that it wouldn't get thrown off by shallow water, rough waves or mines. Also since it was probably made somewhere around 1950-1970 they most likely couldn't have manufactured such a huge project without the massive weight. All you have to do is consider the time it was made in. Excuse me if I'm wrong but I wasn't even born until five years after the cold war ended

@AdasNeumann It flies ~15 meters above water. Sea state 8 defines waves of 9 to 14 meters in height. Not many warships can endure more than sea state 8. Its fuel efficient depending on its payload. Lun carries 6x 5 ton missiles = 30 tons, excluding the launchers' weight. Surely its more fuel efficient than a B-1B with similar speed and payload.
