@Coshka77 are you kidding? the 90's Alternative/Grunge era re-shaped music. The 90's will forever be a ground breaking music era. Not to mention the explosion of Hip-Hop and the beginnings of Rap into the actually genre it is now. Though Rap was around before the 90's, it was this era that really brought it to the stages it required.

@weazz Of course I'm not saying that there was no great music in the 90s, I am saying that compared to the earlier years, completely in my own opinion, very talented artists were less prevalent. But a lot of the late 80s and early/mid 90s music did come from Seattle, my hometown, and I was in fact born in '94 so I do want to make a shutout to "New Liverpool" (as dubbed by Rolling Stones Magazine) lol. As for rap, I personally don't like rap these days, Old School stuffs were a lot better IMO.

@weazz And rock evolves throughout the years that's true, and alternative rock is great and I love 90s music because of the evolution of new rock sub genres. Definitely a great genre emerged, but I don't really like how it's all commercialised these days with almost anyone being able to become famous via the music industry. It seems that these days it's all about the image. I'd definitely rather have the 90s music now than the 2000s music nowadays.

Plenty of artists basked in the limelight and loved being successful, including Blur. And they damn well deserved it. A lot of alternative bands in the '90s truly WERE alternative, and the new commercial interest in indie gave them the audience that they couldn't get in the '80s. You don't know shit about alternative.

@Coshka77 I think the biggest problem people have with '00s music is their inability to reconcile the fact that alternative rock now (and I'm talking real indie music, not Coldplay which is just billed as alternative) is in a similar state that alternative was in the '80s, although now it has the assistance of the internet instead of relying on zines and relentless touring. Alt rock in the '80s had a cult following and so does alt rock today. The popularity of '90s alt rock made listeners lazy.

@Coshka77 Alternative in the late-'90s was absolutely smothered by dance pop music as mainstream audiences grew tired with derivative forms of Grunge and Britpop flooding the charts. Alternative was pushed BACK underground (people often forget that that's where it started, not just in Seattle) and has peeked out from under the sheets occasionally over the last decade with groups like The Strokes, The White Stripes, The Shins, and Vampire Weekend. Do your research; every decade has its strengths.

For example Prodigy's "Invaders Must Die" CD is amazing. AMAZING! and of course they've been around for a long time. But I agree with you 100% about the new music. I blame the "AMERICAN IDOL" get famous Justin Beiber BS. Real talent has to foster, it's not mass produced.

@weazz Yea, that's why it's up to the person to decide which music and bands he/she likes. It has definitely changed over the years, I wish I was alive to see that evolution (i.e. before the 90s) but the one good thing these days have brought, technology wise, is being able to find a whole collection of songs from all decades and eras more easily. Much easier to go to Youtube or some other site to listen to songs rather than buying all the tracks, records, CDs, or tapes.
