Well, in science, Latin is used in order for everyone to understand each other no matter the native language. And the whole, "having synonyms just confuses people" argument is akin to Newspeak in 1984. The fewer words we have, the less people can think! While I do understand your point of view, saying that lowly, uneducated people shouldn't try to expand their vocabulary is just silly. Status quo is not always god. Some people just have extended vocabularies. They're not being elitist snobs.

YES, a large vocabulary CAN be used in deceptive ways, but it is not always the case that someone speaking with an extensive vocabulary seeks to confuse the listener for devious purposes. Increasing my vocabulary has increased my ability to comprehend literature and speakers in everyday life. It allows one ACCESS to those different fields of knowledge you were talking of. What does make you smart is reading...a lost fucking art nowadays. You don't have to memorize the dictionary, just read a fucking book and your vocabulary will NATURALLY progress and develop. That's why people who are well-spoken seem (and most often actually are) smart: they have read a lot and not just on their subject of interest. One last thing. College and persuing a college education has nothing to do with Intellectual pursuit. College is simply a realm one enters to enhance his or her employablity quoitient. Nothing more nothing less. Universities simply give the student the tools to aquire employment in a specific feild. Those institutions have Nothing to do with reaching high levels of intellectualism. That undertaking is strictly on the individual learner themselves, wether enrolled in college or not.

I don't knock college nor do I knock someone's hustle in the street because it is what it is and to each their own. We all have to SURVIVE some how. It's good for someone to go to college, but college only mean that a person is HIGHLY PROGRAMMABLE. If that college educated person isn't careful, they can end up like a slave always working for the corporation UNLESS they start their own.

A person with a degree is a slave also...they just get paid twice as more as a normal slave.

A person might work a close to or a six figure job, but at the end of the day, they're still controlled like everyone else. If their job fall through, or they end up losing their licenses, certifications, or end up BLACKBALLED, then what? How will they eat, pay their bills, feed their families? A college degree is good to have, but it's doesn't guarantee a foot in the door unless a person want to make a change in their communities, then they need trade school or college.

The job market is kinda rough for some college graduates UNLESS their degrees or their field are in demand. And even the jobs that are in demand, they start off making less than 50 grand a year, plus some of these college graduates have loans to pay off. These college graduates are also competing with the OLD laid off or out of work college graduates that have YEARS of experience under their belt.

Some people with only high school diplomas have it the worse out here. It's hard for everyone.

Articulation isn't bad to have. It's just that some people go overboard with it. Just because a person isn't as articulate as someone else doesn't mean they're stupid or uneducated. We judge one another too much by what we see. You can't judge a book by it's cover. At least that's the way I see it.

I feel you on that. But you can't use your knowlege to downgrade a person's worth.
