I'm doing a setting of this piece right now entitled "God of All Nature" with the high school young women's chorus in Evanston, Wyoming. This is truly beautiful, and in many cases has had a perspective-changing effect on these girls. I wish I could tell him what an inspiration his music is.
I dont understand why the fuck so many russian composers and all those anti - western ideologists destroyed tchaikovsky with hard critics. I mean this is a great example of how russian music aspect is. it sound like shostakovich or some soviet army song but it was made by this man during the 19th century(long time before the russian revolution). for me hearing this is like hearing Russia`s soul and heart.
Mravinsky's interpretation of Tchaikovsky"s 5th and 6th symphonies are unsurpassed. He made non-Soviet recordings of the 4th, 5th, and the 6th for Deutsche Grammophon that were released in the 1960's but his prime achievements were documented on Meolodya in the Soviet Union in 1940's and 1950's. Some of his Soviet recordings were released in the West on LPs and later on CDs. Noteworthy among them are Tchaikovsky's 6th symphony, Francesca da Rimini, and the Piano Concerto No. 1 with Richter ...
Yeah I was gonna refer to a few but they get enough publicity as it is. All the Arts are being made a full of these days. Paintings of nothing, guitars being played out of tune because its "in" Poems with one letter in them. Beauty of the arts (at this moment of time) remains in the past. To be blunt, it fucks me off!!!
@ednasilva That came out wrong. What I was trying to say is that there are good musicians nowadays. It's not just noise. There's no need to bash modern music to be able to enjoy this wonderful symphony. I apologize for the previous comment.
@Sulemaniya lol glad you clarified cause i had a mouthful of things to say about that comment, yes i know there are "some" musicians that are actually good, but there are very few, what is trending now? Rihanna with her nasal annoying voice, Britney Spears with her autotuned mess, Lady Gaga with all her freakiness, all that stuff that is popular now a days is mostly trash
One of my favorite compositions by Tchaikovsky, in a performance of great simplicity and nobility. The Russian horn takes a little getting used to, however.
I have one of those audiophile recordings of Ormandy conducting the Philadelphia Orchestra on the 5th, and I have yet to hear a version I did NOT like...
This man is a genius

I wish more hornists would play as sensitive as this guy.
it sounds as most hornists are just trying to play safe and not to take any chances.
as long they don't crak notes they're happy

I very much like the horn's sound in the beginning - it sounds almost like a bassoon! Very good interpretation!!!

Mravinsky's by far the greatest conductor when it comes to Tchaikovsky . Karajan just said of him: "He's the best.". This is extraordinary. Thanks.

I think his 6. Symphony is the best, but this is an outstanding movement. I actually like the 5. symphony more than the 4.

Great panting and music. The russian painting is too special, the use of coulors, unique in the world, and too unknown at the same time.Great collection.
And music,is perfectly well put,a storm,the calm,the sea,etc.
I love this adagio. The best of Tchaikovsky and the best symphony of him.Too well built.
Too great those brass.Great version too.
