Ubuntu Linux worked grate for me i use dule boot everything working fine but i would not replace window because it a wast of my money keep them both that what i do
I switched to Apple after the Vista debacle, but quickly came back to Windows7 after I found out about Office 08 being crap on a Mac and that many devices simply have no drivers in MacOS. Yeah MacOS is fast, it's nice to look at and has some nice gesture support BUT many software packages are inferior or incompatible with Windows and other devices. The Mac file system is different, so have fun synching (backups and databases) with the rest of the world. I am a LOT more productive with Win7
I would have to say Workbench on the Commodore Amiga. First OS to do multitasking and it was amazing on 256k. The Amiga was so far ahead of its time from games like Turricain, awesome arcade conversions that were superior to the actual arcade like Rainbow Islands, to the use of Deluxe Paint. Loved the Amiga.
Next would be GEOS on the Commodore 64. Seeing the C64 do desktop publishing, running a GUI was a treat amongst itself and was fast too by C64 standards that is.
I grew up using XP and currently have windows 7 ultimate X64 how ever if my system ever messes up I plan to dual boot with ubuntu. But I don't know. I have messed with ubuntu in a virtual machine it wasn't much I found I could do with it.
@rainbowbowserpow9999 There is TONS of stuff you can do with Linux that's why Linux is used in almost everything from cell phone , to servers , and super computers ... Supercomputers today most often use variants of the Linux operating system.Linux has tons of fun software like ... EasyStroke Mouse Gestures , Compiz Fusion ,Phatch Photo batch Processor, Parcellite, OpenShot , Blender 3D, PhotoFilmStrip, vsftpd + filezilla = any easy to set up home sever. Plus Linux doesn't need Anti-virus.
@SuperAllenWest Indeed I know the cool stuff, one thing is Linux still needs some protection it is has vulnerable has any other OS but yes it doesn't need has much it may be popular but for more then windows and mac its desktop use is not has popular has the OS which are targeted for infections.
I would have to say windows 7 because it came out with snap together feature and i have Linux Ubuntu right now and i like how you can't get viruses easy but i think it sucks because you cant do anything you can do on windows because you can get itunes but you can't sync your ipod to it and i think that sucks.
now i have used many OS's windows xp vista and 7 and windows 95 at some point and mac os x leo.. but not linux because well i have never tryed and i heared that its just windows and mac mixed up. At the moment im using both windows 7 and xp and to be fair windows xp may be old but its my fav OS at the moment
I am starting to dislike windows more and more because of Drm. Because nobody really owns windows software, I like Linux way more. Mac you don't own the software either ,but they are less controlling then Microsoft.,but I heard from some mac user in some areas that is slowly changing. I was never a big fan of Mac System X, but I could adapt to it easily because my first computer was an Old I mac.
I prefer Debian to Ubuntu now a days, I use Lenny 5.0.4. I Use ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop, it work decent but the graphics cards crashes on me because of graphics card issues. . My fav os of all time is Mac 0s 9 because I loved the old application on that system.
@Falador321 That's because ubuntu Sucks. they have Been leaning towards Mobile units these days. ubuntu wont work on any of My computers. i a haven't Liked ubuntu since version 9.10 if your Game i would Suggest you go download one called Pardus. its the best KDE Distro i ever used. Maybe give that one a shot Before you give up on Linux. :-)
I don't need Linux for "Eye Candy", in fact I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 and I can't use Compiz Fusion and Beryl. I like Linux because it's free, open source, and highly configurable.
@teribleislas Don't talk bad about his videos , because he will block you trust me he has bock five of my accounts, but I just make a new one.... HAHAHA
I used Microsoft BASIC in the beginning until I found the Apple IIGS than I switched to Windows 95 - 98 - 98se - 2000 - Neptune Beta - Windows XP - Windows 7 now I use mac because it does everything I do in a simple way and you dont have to pull up the task manager all the time
I want to use them all. I am trying to get into Linux (Ubuntu) through a virtual machine on my gaming computer. Run Windows as the host so that way I don't loose performance in games. I also have a 2008 iMac which I use as a file server and for media e.g. iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb etc. I like Time Machine. By keeping all the stuff on my Mac I only need to backup one computer. I can just re-download all my games anyway.
Windows 7 and Ubuntu/Kubuntu. Ubuntu 11.04's Unity interface is terrible... but GNOME Shell is way better, and you can use it if you select Ubuntu Classic. I love it. I use Windows 7 for gaming and other incompatible things, and I use Ubuntu for everything else. I even try to use WINE rather than boot into Windows. I was thinking of trying other Distros though, but I'm not sure which one. I used Linux Mint 10 KDE for a month but... my hardware was incompatible :/ My Graphics card sucks.
i really like windows 7, its a lot smoother than vista and xp. it has lots of downloadable applications and tweaks to it. i also think ios is too limited in what you can do and change
@TheWallvideo What was so special about pointing out the fact that your windows is legal?....Want us to think youre a big baller cuz you bought a copy? Try again
I write to say I love you i watch all the time from brazill I love when you says WINDOWS SUCKS or yelll GIVE ME A TRIPS . I love ubuntu becouse itś is safe, no virus, so faster, bugs fix faster than windows and I'm poor I dont have US 500,00 to buy a copy from win7. Brazil is more windows expansive the world
so i have 10.10 on a disk running the "try it" version on my friends computer because he needs atleast 2.6 gb of disk drive space to install ubuntu. well, i cant get into his windows stufff because vista wont start up. i know theres a way to get to your windows files through terminal, but how? theres no videos anywere!! plz help. i need to free up space to download ubuntu.
I run Windows 7 as my main OS. I love it! To me, Ubuntu 10.10 s second and OX-S is last. Why? Usability. I just dont get on with the usability in OS-X, and I cant stand it. Windows 7 is not perfect, but it is very very good. Ubuntu, is just stunning for what it is and I feel very at home using it. My credentials, PhD student in human factors and usability....
it was my first OS (which gives it an arbitrary advantage) and had plenty of good stuffs in store. It had the dosshell (ancestor of the windows explorer), with a section for "programs" (equivalent of "shortcuts"). It had the command line with commands that did not exist in previous versions ("tree" or "dirtree"). It was stable. It had "qbasic" games (nibbles or the one with the gorillas). It had a decent editor and could be tweaked (autoexec.bat and config.sys). Simple AND powerful.
Windows 7 is my favourite OS of all time. I like good looking desktops and windows 7 fullfills that for me. It is also works very well for me and doesn't seem to have any conflicts with my gaming. However, I haven't really used OSX or many Linux Distros. I've dabbled with Ubuntu and would like to learn more. And I plan to get a Mac as a 2nd computer oneday. So I don't really prefer one or the other, I just use Windows atm because it fullfills my needs at the moment.
I had vista on my laptop, but it has some nice BSOD bugs.. So I tried ubuntu. Now I'm completely into linux. My fivorite os is: Ubuntu 10.04.. Probably, the next one will probably be 10.10..
It is fast, complete, and lacks virusses.. And: you have a 3d desktop..
Concerning gaming: What else do you need apart from Diablo 2 and NWN?
I didn't have a single security issue so far.
I have everything I need, and it runs fast.. Blender3D runs much faster than on windows..
ubuntu is the best in the world. it works with everything. everything that costs money on windows there is a free version on linux. my second is fedora.
@ilovmc It does. It is just compatible with moth software, not all. It doesn't work with drivers. But I play wow and Portal on it all the time. And I like ubuntu sftware center. it is probabley one of the best features of Ubuntu. And playdeb.net is a website devoted to Ubuntu gaming. I am a linux person because of things like these, Xubuntu (XFCE variation of ubuntu) is amazing. My Pc barely breaks a sweat with World of Warcraft set to max graphics and with all of my addons.
i dont like the virus prone-windows. files are easily corrupted. - MAC OS X SNOW LEOPARD> try it, and you'll know. - try them both then choose the better. :D
the main reason that people hate macs is because they can't afford em and thoughs people that keep on bragging about them. Ubuntu and windows arn't bad but mac people hate em cause people won't switch to mac or try it but the only way to try it is to buy one (mac minis go for 550usd in ebay so ebay is not a alternitive to buy a mac....) all thoughs operating systems osx, windows, and linux have bugs and major problems.
@goldaceofspades I don't like Macs because i'm uncomfortable using it. When I click the cross, I expect the program to be closed. But no - Closing a program requires more than a click! And it's just ugly grey....ewww. Windows 7 is just a mac rip off, and Vista just kicks ass...when tweaked.
windows xp not windows 7 as vista clone with some modifications windows xp you can goto file find you defragmenting progrma vista or 7 you need to type it in search bar i like to click on my files no type it in when im using it for every other month its long list
It was simply organized, fonts in fonts directory, libraries in Libs directory etc. It was easy to maintain and get things done. Its CLI was superior to MS Dos. It was fun to use and had a WOW factor that Microsoft couldn't even approach. I got plenty of people to buy Amigas after a few hours at my house. Some were 8 bit Commy and Atari users and some of them were MS IBM PC/AT users. People were amazed at how much software I had on a 5 MEGABYTE SCSI Hard Drive.
XP, but with classic gray interface (not the blue soft-edge baby colors) because of its technical superiority (well, from the Windows series), and because it currently is the best OS suited for 2010 hardware. Windows 7 is good, but computers tend to not match the speed ... yet. But, XP : Stable : yes (with SPs), current : yes, still the reference. Most software runs XP, more than any Mac or Linux. Drivers : all available (stay on 32-bit). --- Best OS for future : 64-bit Windows 7, lots of ram.
there's really no way one could make a mistake choosing an OS. It really boils down to what are you gonna do with that OS. I used to like Microsoft Windows XP and Vista BUT i got really tired of all the Malwares, Spywares and Viruses it attracts EVEN with an Anti-Virus and Anti-Everything programs you installed with it. So i'm using Linux Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala and never had bad happening to my Computer anymore.
@karst1hans1 well then i am sure you know vista is much better then it was when it first came out so its pretty okay to have now. But yea me ill just stick with snow leopard.
For nostalgia: TRS-80 Model 1 (Learning to program on a flat memory map of the entire system/ability to get at the source code at the beginning - and the STRINGY FLOPPY [mini 8-track for storage]!), Atari ST (Learning structured programming & time of friendly SIGs), & Windows 95 (For a bite into Visual programming environments.)
For recent/now: Linux (Ubuntu & OpenSUSE) The entire freedom ideology complete 70s thing. Backed up by WINE & Virtualbox.
Currently learning OSX/Server (likely ending in a Mac Pro purchase) mainly to forward my career since the Mac guy is retirement age and the PC guys here hate Macs. Plus it will be interesting to beat on. (Especially Apple's attitudes toward a server environment vs Windows/*nix.)
No, windows gets viruses because you are an idiot who downloads illegal files and then cry foul when you get fucked over. Think mac's cant get viruses? Give me your IP and be amazed.
The joke here is that most mac users don't know how to use a computer and their opinion is worthless because of it.
My post was an absolute joke. Just remember that no matter how much "proof" you have or know, it doesn't mean anything when you're talking to an idiot who pays $600 for an apple logo. :)
I love OS 10.4 for it's speed and stability. Although I'm a newb I love terminal in OS X. Which I understand is also on linux. Windows Xp Home sp2 was great too, they made it easy to get into the backside of windows and it was easy to "hack" (things they blocked out with Xp.)
For HDD recovery, sure you can slave it on any system and hope for the best... or take it to a professional who will actually take the drive apart and try to recover info for you.
my first operating system i used on a regular basis was 95 i have used a massive range of OSes since i never liked the mac OSes but i love all windows Operating systems and the 5 or so Linux operating systems iv used
how can i create something like windows, with the logo at the beginning and everything, but mine. basic i like windows XP and i want to make somthing i can sell. I would like the background changable, My logo on loadup, and alot of options. can someone help me create it.
what? i like mac? everyone is posting what they likee? thats not cool bro u be callin me out dude chill urself calm urself nigga be easy honestly does it even fuckin matter?
i dont know which is best but i am sure Vista is the worse i have used so far! Slow as hell and why does that need 60GB of my hard disk!! 60 GB!!! couple of years back they just had 15GB hard disks..!! Vista is really not worth the time, money or any resource of yours... If this is where windows wants to take us(huge operating systems, with poor speed and basically the same old features) then its not worth a dam.
Windows 3.11 was Microsofts best OS. Sure it crashed but remember: it was running on 286/386 machines running at 33MHz.
What I am saying is that compared to the slow privacy invading behemoths of XP, Vista, Windows 7 ----- think how fast 3.1 would boot AND REBOOT - IT would be rebooted so fast you wouldn't know it crashed. LOL
Im using debian and compiz is wonderful. When you get it to work. Your drivers must be right on the money, Or it wont work. I have been using windows for a while and to me linux is a big relief. Windows is good for people who want things to just work. Linux is good if you like to tinker. But its very satisfying once it gets working fully.
I'd love to try OS X Snow Leopard.. But I don't have enough money to just go out there and buy a fucking mac! And having a mum that's technologically impaired (I'm 13.. shut up) doesn't help. : )

My Pc barely breaks a sweat with World of Warcraft set to max graphics and with all of my addons.

ubuntu is my #1 so far
-it comes with lots of visual effects loaded in
-its generally virus free
-it runs beautifully on older hardware and my netbook
its free to upgrade to the newest version (as do almost all linux OS other than redhat)
-it works on mac hardware and pc hardware (big plus)
-its customisabe to the extent to where you have choice in the GUI you will use (default is GNOME) ::::Linux in general comment::::
there is tonnes of choice (270 counted distros)

the main reason that people hate macs is because they can't afford em and thoughs people that keep on bragging about them. Ubuntu and windows arn't bad but mac people hate em cause people won't switch to mac or try it but the only way to try it is to buy one (mac minis go for 550usd in ebay so ebay is not a alternitive to buy a mac....) all thoughs operating systems osx, windows, and linux have bugs and major problems.
goldaceofspades 1 year ago
@goldaceofspades I don't like Macs because i'm uncomfortable using it. When I click the cross, I expect the program to be closed. But no - Closing a program requires more than a click! And it's just ugly grey....ewww. Windows 7 is just a mac rip off, and Vista just kicks ass...when tweaked.
Devil2maylaughhaha 1 year ago
@Devil2maylaughhaha on a mac you can close a program with a simple keyboard shortcut: cmd + Q

Amiga!
It was the coolest!

Too much for one post...

For HDD recovery, sure you can slave it on any system and hope for the best... or take it to a professional who will actually take the drive apart and try to recover info for you.

iv just downloaded linux and yes it is alot faster than vista but for a free os i think it would be the best
LUvS2RoOT 2 years ago
i dont know which is best but i am sure Vista is the worse i have used so far!
As i speak i am downloading Linux ubuntu!
