Populism - promises everything to the working classes - and no threat to the ruling classes - It completely bypasses the interests of the middle classes. It also isolates the political ruling elite even from there own parliament like a virtual dictatorship and undermines democratic institutions
This cannot lead to a fully functional meritocrasy - with social mobility.....

When you talk with old people who lived back then, some of them disagree and say the same things we say about the Kirchners. So, the Peronists always find the way to change the look of history.

It no longer relates to comunism or capitalism, because in the end it will always be the same: a bunch of vultures get to power, they feather their nests and that's it. In the 40/50's Argentina was the 5th country according to the living standards. The damaged made was huge during the last decades. All agreements seem to be made so all resources are looted.

BUT at the same time, our military guys were stealing the food which was going to be sent to our troops and many of those goods were found in groceries and kiosks in the Patagonia and even in the Province of Buenos Aires. @bluemuleii The problem in Argentina is corruption. It no longer relates to comunism or capitalism, because in the end it will always be the same: a bunch of vultures get to power, they feather their nests and that's it. In the 40/50's Argentina was the 5th country according to the living standards. The damaged made was huge during the last decades. All agreements seem to be made so all resources are looted.

Socialist like in northern Europe, not like the clowns in Latin America, who under the disguise you will find nothing but corrupt and fascists. @Antimoron2 I mention this as i firmly believe - whatever the start point we've all got to try to be heading towards fair an equitable societies - otherwise life is just shit in so many other ways - power lobbying and special interests have undermined this everywhere - and then in places like argentina the undermining is the most severe and the corruption the most blatant
we can only strengthen democracy and undermine individual powers (of our incumbant politicians).....

@bluemuleii You know, I wish we could strengthen democracy here, but what young people think democracy is. Many were brought up in a society where a very rich guy can openly steal in front of your face and you know very well he won't end up in jail. We even grow up with the following common phrases "Oh, well, what can you do, this is Argentina" "what can you expect from this country" and when you don't want to take charge of something you even say "Me? I'm Argentinian".

@bluemuleii Argentina is LOADED with problems which stem of corruption of course, but what worries me most is the lack of crytical thinking our society has. For instance, Menem he stole so much.. he lied so much.... yet, he's free and now joined The K's. Can you believe it? If people see these bunch of crooks on the streets nobody throws anything, nobody insults them. On the contrary. That's something I'll never understand.

I mean, in the past a president/minister, whatever when they screwed up they either resigned or they got a kick in the ass. Today, our leaders look more la Silvio Berlusconi in the sense that they can get away with almost anything and societies seem quiet at moments were they shouldn't.

These days what I find funny is that many people here (boosted by the government-paid media) are laughing about Europe and the US because they're sinking and we're doing so well here... but we don't live in reality here. We just live of dreams and promises and the typical arrogance of feeling superior to anybody.

@Antimoron2 Hey just on that - SA could emerge after the crisis in far more prominent power share in world affairs (as can all of the developing world) but its an opportunity - to be taken - the world will recover - if argentina stands non aligned - singing the weird tune it does - the world will just move on without her (like end of WWII) the world needs AG for resources (but it wants to pay bottom prices for them) - corrupt politicians help this happen

@bluemuleii When Perón was in power, people forget that he brought 200 Nazis to Argentina with fake passports (he admired Hitler), he closed down a very important newspaper (La Prensa) and closed down other radios too. Argentinians had to listen to Radio Colonia (Uruguay) to find out what was going on here! Now, due to the lack of money, the government has more than 200 media in the whole country, they lie about statistics and want to control the production of paper to censor some media.
