  • like a bottle of exquiste stuff

  • Lush and lovely.Got lucky having an alternative station[wwcd] start up.Never would've heard this otherwise

  • A song from a pregnant woman to her unborn daughter about the hopes she has for her daughter in her new family and thanking her and the father for healing her as a person.

  • simply the greatest band ever , nothing or no one comes close , wonder if liz really knows how much she is adored and revered as a vocalist

  • @graynrach1 When I see a comment like this I have to believe you're very young. You've not seen Led Zepplin front row, santana at a dinner club,Jerry Garcia playing the keystone,or the dead,or heart, or Chrissy Hynde middle aged grandmother ignite a stadium, you know?Consider them another wonderful color in the rainbow

  • Heaven or Las Vegas,

    Uplifting,right?I wonder how it appened.

    Liz Frser,2000

  • What splendid sounds like down a tube of phased, metallic, angelic mysteries formed by Scottish wordless confidence.

  • Ummm yea...........??????????????

  • Is there beauty in this world? Cocteau is the answer. Beauty to the extreme.

  • If i listened to this backwards would i actually hear words?

  • gorgeous gorgeous tune from one of the greatest unknown bands to grace these shores

  • Superb classic

  • We're going to burn this whole madhouse down!

  • Thank you Jeremy Klien and Birdhouse Projects for introduecing me to this awesome music all those years ago.

  • i saw them two times. Once in a theater in Boston and the other at an arena in Waltham MA. in 1990. Great shows.

  • Ooh beautiful song. Gets to me everytime (covered in goosebumps now).

For anybody interested, take a listen to Shakespears Sister "Goodbye Cruel World". I think Siobhan Fahey might have been inspired by Iceblink Luck.

  • its 1991 and I'm 24 again and stoned...

  • @andeez67 it's 2011, I'm 24 and stoned, and this is my favourite song in the world. Are you my future self?

  • I'm happy again!

  • its 1991 and I'm 19 again and in love.....

  • BACK IN THE DAY THEY WERE THE STUFF.

  • ... bonesetters... :beautiful lyric:

  • Adoro esta banda ....tenho todos os cd's , melodia maravilhosa....

  • lets be honest if you dont appreciate a great voice a great sound p off and listen to some other crap !!!! as this band can do no wrong lol

  • crystalized orange pip satisfaction :)

  • Not all Americans are closeminded. I simply love them!

  • Better than the best.I love her for the rest of my days

  • for the longest time i thought she was speaking french.

  • @cherubicnerd Oh my god you are dumb. It sound's nothing like French.

  • @Peppepoppldoppl it's "sounds".

  • @cherubicnerd No, there is not a difference. If you want to rag on grammar, then look at your own idiotic reply. You can't even spell.

  • @cherubicnerd Retarded degenerate chooses to whine about grammar when it has no other point to make. What inferior behaviour.

  • @Peppepoppldoppl yep. i knew you were a nut when i saw your name (again) in my inbox. this is my last response to you:get a life or an appointment with a psychologist. either one will do. people want to read positive comments. not negative ones.au revoir.

  • @cherubicnerd Americans should not be listening to Scottish music. Not European music in any form.

  • @cherubicnerd I thought the same thing too, not on this song but on others. I know on at least one song she definitely does sing in French, but even the English sung ones have a similar accent to French. I like the unique style! (ignore the other commenter who seems so angry that you should have noticed this, they are very rude)

  • @gypsytheif thanks,sweetie. i've already forgotten about it. :)

  • Exquisite!

  • OMG how could I have posted a comment without mentioning that angelic voice?! I am all a-swoon, and no kidding. Shivers, I tell you! Shaking like tremelo...

  • @youlupukki

    :-)))))))))))))))))

  • Very beautiful and downright pure voice.

  • Sounds like Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins ripped this off with his track 'This Time' off of the Machina Machines Of God Album

  • I'm too busy listening to Ms.Fraser's awesome voice, but I see what you mean about the Peter Hook-sounding bass. As much as their version of Song To the Siren makes me all misty and out-with-the tissues, hearing this song never fails to give me a case of the warm fuzzies.

As for 777pusher's reference to J.J. Burnel, I just can't imagine the Cocteau Twins practising any martial arts before a gig. ;)

  • @youlupukki - do I detect a little bit of Peter Hook sounding bass in there?? Specifically around :42 ?

  • @777pusher Peter Hook, at least it is not hints of peter waterman !

  • OMG!! 24 people don't like this - ARE YOU DEAF???? How can you not like the Cocteaus? this is amazing as are the rest of their songs.

  • Elizabeth's voice gives me chills

  • I really hope they can re-unit, but Elizabeth wouldn't want it. :(

  • Your political views show that you are a complete idiot

  • What an A song it is...though i dont really understand what she is SAYIN'...

  • sounds so modern in 2011. Elizabeth is one of the greats, and the music of Simon Raymonde (now runs Bella Union label) and Robin Guthrie (just finished a solo tour of usa with Dead Can Dance's Brendan Perry) is the blueprint for so many of today's new bands. Shame they never received the recognition they deserve.

  • beautiful music...this is truly what we called ART!

  • i mean how?

  • My wife rips the pi55 out of me for liking what she calls 'la la la' music. This is the pinacle of the genre. I weren't even a student!! Awesome.

  • @trailerparkboy247 your wife, like many others, just doesn t have great taste in music, other than that im guessing shes a wonderful women and you are lucky to have her!!

  • If aliens do exist, this is the type of music they listen to ;)

  • @CaliDude1984 Aliens do exist, the Cocteau Twins are from a higher dimension, the fact that you recognise it means you are as well! And yes, this is what aliens listen to because what else is there to listen to compared to the beauty, harmony and bliss we aliens express at a higher dimension?

  • Oh joy!!! Anomily....thank you for uploading this. I had it on cassette, tried to play it for the first time in ages last month and it got chewed. I forgot how brilliant they were. Oops, plugged the 'phones in on very loud....then turned it up!!! I can't believe anyone could only listen to this once.....absolutely captivating. Next stop; music shop for CD. :)

  • incredible incredible voice and great music.

  • So beautiful!!!!!! What a great band!!!! Hello from Brazil!

  • you're really both bone setters thankyou for mending me babies

  • Im 11 and love this...

  • @Gribbleyguts good litlle guy.

  • one of the best things ever !!!!!!

  • you're the mad, choke-cherry coal that will blow this whole, mad house down.

  • @reieto Actually its " your the match of Jericho that will burn this whole mad house down"

A quick google search will help you with that.

  • @prostheticneck actually... :) it's not. i'm one of the old-timers who disagree. There are a bunch of reasons why - phonetically, the double "ch" in "choke cherry" and the ending "L" sound and conceptually: Her fetus is the coal and she throws open like "the walnut safe".

  • @reieto

She's not saying "choke cherry", she is saying to throw open the walls of Jericho and then "burn this whole mad house down" which refers to the biblical city of Jericho. The opening of the walls and walnut safe probably have to do with her daughter being born, but that's up to the listener to interpret.

  • @00SoldierofFortune00 well, that's the great thing about liz, you have to listen and hear for yourself. and it's good that we talk about this. i still hear "choke cherry coal" because I hear the double ch and the "l" at the end, but i'll keep listening until i figure it all out. just like you and all the fans. :)

  • same here except im 17

  • I love this band, and, TvTropes, has a point on the band XD

Family Guy, your representation of the band Sting or whatever it was, should be changed to Cocteau Twins. I mean, don't get me wrong, they're an amazing band, but, sometimes it's hard to understand.

Maybe that's their greatness, is a siren like song

  • Seeing them in concert tonight in Chicago with Dead Can Dance, yo!

  • I am from argentina and I love this sond and this band since the very first time I heard them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You can practically hear she was pregnant at the time of recording, this is such a hymn of fulfilment and womanly pride! The actual words are edgy sometimes but her singing, and the way she moves in the video, exude confidence.

  • the mucis I would ike to ear when I will be up

  • man...that song is just weird!

  • Great song and video! Elizabeth rocks!

  • I've seen the white light on the horizon, resulting from reflection of light off a field of ice immediately beyond... wow!!

  • I have been looking for this tune for ages. BRILLIANT!!! Thank you for posting!!!

  • In a perfect world, people love the beauty of Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana & Swervedriver and the beauty of the Cocteaus, Lush, & Slowdive. Genius is genius.

  • Artful music, for sure. Some of the best vocals ever. So many great Cocteau Twins songs. Soaring vocals.

  • If you could explain in mortal words, how and why she sounds and looks so beautiful. Its Because she is Scottish. she has the Pictish Celtic blood flowing through her veins.

  • Got to be the best Cocteau Twins track

  • So, so beautiful.

  • i am 55 years old ,and from the first time i heard the cocteau twins i was mysticaly ,melodicaly captivated, imprisoned in that blissfull moment of sound. these are great voices, instrumentals, and arrangements. my family introduced me to this group,we would be on a road trip, and every one would try to sing along, but not understanding the words of course ,and trying to sing with the music became a very humorus event makes me remember good times

  • @snapperjohn1000 same here except i'm 17! i love my parent for it!

  • @snapperjohn1000 there was so much good music around then that to sell records, you had to come out with something good.

  • @snapperjohn1000 kindred spirit my man!

  • @snapperjohn1000 You have smacked that nail, sir! What kind of music effects a tangible pull on the listener, inciting a nearly irresistible urge to sing along, even though the words are indecipherable? A truly magical brand of music, built on a framework of compelling melodies, hook-y composition, and exquisite instrumentation. I encountered this rich alchemy in the first few albums by R.E.M., and then again when I heard Cocteau Twins. Oddly enough, I don't even care what the real words are.

  • @snapperjohn1000 Ive loved this band precisely for this reason for nearly 20 years. Amazing melodies, baffling lyrics.

  • @snapperjohn1000 - if you go to a search engine and type in ' Lyrics for Cocteau Twins songs ' you'll be surprised what you find. I started listening to them in the early 1980's and was more interested in the melodies than the lyrics which you can only barely understand, the lyrics are more like poems, not always logical but hint at ideas etc...

  • i don't know why but it makes me cry : -)

  • Liz at her best,top notch ,

  • I have played this a thousand times. A thousand times, I'm left crying tears of wonderous happiness. The Cocteau Twins have produced the most beautiful music it is possible to make.

  • <3

  • Is this the greatest band of all time, or what

  • AS FAST AS I CAN RESPOND TO A "NEW FAVORITE" THERE WILL BE ANOTHER ONE BY "DUTCH"??? MY BULLSHIT DETECTOR IS INTO OVERDRIVE??

  • hiawathaaaaaaa heeeeeeeeeeeey

  • love love love love.

  • Seeming to be glad a lot I'm happy again.....

  • depression has anger....this is a very new level...just pure resignation.

  • beautiful ¡is a bullet right to my heart¡

  • see the 22 people who disliked this, away and listen to your black eyed peas shite will you?

  • @ThisNamesClass I second that!!!

  • @ThisNamesClass Maybe they just don't like later Cocteau Twins...

While I love this particular song, I'm not exactly crazy about everything they released after BBK... and that's a pretty common opinion amongst Cocteau Twins fans. It's really not a big deal, plus these "_____ people _____" comments on Youtube are getting really tiresome.

  • @ThisNamesClass Well, there are also those of us who followed their work nearly as many thirty years ago who began to tire of them after Victorialand, which is understandable. And there are those who liked them until the end - which is also valid. But commenting on the number of dislikes on a video I expect to see on a Black-Eyed Peas video, not here.

  • @ThisNamesClass Never mention that group in here again :P

  • @ThisNamesClass

    EXACTLY!

  • @ThisNamesClass This is a serious piece of music.....not everyone gets it.....unfortunately....you do, thats what matters.....

  • @ThisNamesClass or lady gaga

  • @ThisNamesClass Yes, and make sure you use headphones.

  • Marvelous stuff!

  • it's ethereal, wonderful. Cocteaus are amazing. Treasure is their masterwork in my humble opinion!

  • Wow. I cannot believe this existed my entire life, my ignorance.

  • This song is actually way better live. Look for it on YouTube, there are a few good recordings available.

  • 3 minutes and 18 seconds of sheer amazement, Liz forever!

  • I have loved this band for 20+ years!!!

  • Man, people forget there was ever music like this in the '80s. Truly sad.

  • This song was warm and loving before I saw the video, back when it was brand new.

Thankfully the video matched the audio, frame for note. It was astonishing to my then 25 year old eyes.

  • This period - Blue Bell Knoll & Heaven Or Las Vegas - was the perfect marriage of the Cocteau Twins sound and commercial accessibility. I don't mean that in a bad way at all. The music was inspired and uplifting and Liz never looked more beautiful that she did in this video & in Heaven Or Las Vegas. As a long-time fan, this period ushered in a new sense of creative maturity and direction. This music was the door to introduce new fans to what lay inside...

  • heaven or las vegas album is fucking sweet

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAmazin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love

  • Love!!

  • 20 sordos insensibles

  • Judging by the number of people viewing CT vids, not everyone thinks music begins and ends on the X-Factor.My faith in the human race is restored. This stuff is sublime.

  • this was thieir comeback..and how good was that, mark, x

  • I kind of like this

  • @ashestoyoursoul on a scale of ten, it is at least eleven, mark,

  • A favorite of mine many years ago & still so excellent today!

  • 19 people don't like that video.

If I went they, would be embarrassed of not liking...

  • this is like one of those songs that you know is good but your not gonna like tell or show your friends you like it

  • Just brilliant - I don't really care that the lyrics are undecepherable!!

  • Jeremy Klein Birdhouse Projects Ravers video. 1992.... 18 years already?

  • @chrishaven76 One of my favorite parts of all time, and yes how times flys!!! man i miss those days.

  • everyone needs a bone-setter

  • Best female singer in music history.

  • liz love you will you marry me !!!

  • I review the Scottish group's whole discography including their EP's.

  • think there are 18 retards who need their ears syringing !

  • WWow!!!! Why don't I hear stuff like this anymore, where the artist says fuck perfection lets explore beauty!!

  • This waz one of my favourite CT trax back in the 80s, which really wasn't that bad a decade, no matter what anyone sez. I mean - listen to this ;)

  • @LadyDiamondIsHereNow

So when you loved this track in the 80's, you weren't bothered at all by the fact that it was released in 1990?
