  • Hear the crowd cheer when they start the song. All great bands could sing this because the song is so great.

  • Very happy to see Steve Cropper is on this track. I had heard it before, but knew nothing about it. I just knew that Eddie was a big Neil Young fan and I had a terrible lingering thought that Eddie thought that Dock of the Bay was a Neil Young original (because of course, Neil covered it too). It seemed a little more probable that Eddie would be playing with Neil than Otis Redding (who I believe has been dead for all of Eddie's life). Didn't realize Cropper had writing credits to the song.

  • No No No, it's not sitting on a cock cause I'm gay,WOW talk about miss heard lyrics

  • Eddie keeping it real. As usual.

  • Buen cover de esta banda que estuvieron hace dos dias en Lima Peru dejando buenos recuerdos.

  • This is the perfect definition of the difference between a cover and a tribute.

  • @clavedesol85 I couldnt have said it better myself

  • Ahhh this was my first concert. My freshmen year of high school.... Awesome

  • He crapped up the lyrics @ 2:06 into the song..oh well..not really there style anyway. Most tunes are writen with a certain genre in mind from the onset..they usually dont sound as good when crossing highways of music styles.

  • I wish I was born at this concert. not in a hospital.

  • I was there,man I'm old. Kings X opened. Great show

  • mmmmmmm awesome

  • Actually it is a song co-written by soul singer Otis Redding and guitarist Steve Cropper

  • OTIS & PG YES YES YALL!

  • Eddie for President!

  • This is the last thing i shared with my cool Hippy uncle before he died of cancer :) :( very special xx

  • @Slappendel I´m so happy for you!!! It¨s so cute...

  • Thanks for this video! Was my first concert ever! I was 14!

  • Its VEDDER!!!!! Not Vetter

  • 7 people dislike sitting at docks......

  • beautiful............thumbs up

  • I downloaded the audio from this on Napster years ago. This is my first time seeing it. I always thought Eddie Vetter was the one who whistled. I've been wrong for about 15 years.

  • @reckperfect

    me too :)

  • I miss Murfreesboro , left a good woman there (C) I will always remeber you. Awesome version of this song tho .

  • OMG how did you get this video?!?!?!?!?!!?!

  • Actually Otis and Steve Cropper wrote it. I have the record in front of me.

  • wish i were there in 94

  • THIS should be your video with the most views. Cause it's simply amazing. :)

  • Großartig!

  • Season's Greetings... May Peace be your gift at Christmas and your blessing all year through! , Love and hugs, Sunshine4unme7

  • Sweet! This song popped up on my iPod, so I googled it because I was at this show when I was 13. Same song...I was there! It was my first show.

  • this brought a tear to my eye beautiful;

  • I just love this song.

  • miss you uncle ian xx

  • ditto to Brain 1

  • My oldest son attended MTSU ..hooraaawwwwwwww

  • and the Rock version ... yeah!

  • Look like nothing's gonna change

    Everything remains the same

I can't do what ten people tell me to do

So I guess I'll remain the same

Yuuuuppp!!! People are ridiculously demanding sometimes...

  • i love the reverb with a slight delay on guitar..... sounds so wicked

  • that was cool..!!! hehe

  • what a stunning vers of dock , vedders vox are perfect & steve cropper is amazing

    no fx pedals needed

  • i love this song so much.....good memories

  • SicK- I found this song years ago but i never imagined i would ever see it preformed live- i guess the new millenium is good for something other than hmmm i cant think of anything to say here- and yeah like atiawat said this is an Odis Redding original song but i would hope everyone would know that already..

  • Man, some of you people are totally internet-handicapped. "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" was co-written by Steve Cropper and Otis Redding, hence Eddie saying it is an honor to "play one of his songs with him here tonight." Sheesh.

  • @RevRyan15 sheesh !

  • Ive had this cover since '99, but my version doesnt have Steve Cropper being introduced. I always thought it was just another awesome Mike solo. Learned something today :-).

  • hey guys. dock of the bay is written by Steve Cropper. He was the studio guitar player of Ottis Redding and he wrote the song of Otis.

  • For all of you that think Eddie Vedder doesn't know that Otis Redding wrote Dock of the Bay are just rude. He and Steve Cropper covered the song. I think they both know pretty well who Otis Redding is. He talks about it before what you hear in this clip. That sums it up. Gotta stand up for Ed! =)

  • VAN HALEN? GFY! All talentless alcoholics. In 40 years noone will be listening to Van Halen(only people with no musical taste listen to them anyway)i imagine you must be one of those dicks that follows nickelback around

  • they should of done a studio recording, would of been ten times better live then, they are worthy...

  • it doesnt matter if it is grunge or whatever, this guy vedder has got a great voice and thats the only thing that matters

  • Pearl Jam doing this song is like putting a 302 Ford engine into a Enzo Ferrari.

  • @22reTOYOTA stick to cars,something you know.

  • OK, Putting a 350 Chevy into a Enzo. Does that help?

  • @22reTOYOTA nope, this is a great cover no matter what you think.

  • If I shot junk, I guess I would understand. The whole "Grung" thing lasted as long disco. Now its "Kill,Angry,Scream,at 300 beats a minute" I will stick with Van Halen,Thank you.

  • Otis died 42 years ago. Do you think Pearl Jam will be thought about 42 years from now?

  • @22reTOYOTA

of course they will a great band been goin strong for over 20 years and have sold tens of millions of albums! and steve cropper deemed them worthy of his playing with them. i respect his opinion more than yours i'm afraid!

  • Well....Thats GREAT. Id rather listen to Otis. At least when Van Halen did a cover it made the charts.

  • thats cuz they realeased it pearl jam didn't bother they sell their own music

  • rolling his bones...hee hee

  • heard this for the first time on the New Songs III Bootleg disc. what a great compilation cd that is. anyone else have it?

  • I was in the pit at this show. Great, great memory. Thank you so much for this!!!!

  • @runningtaters I am envious! I would love to have a memory such as that!!

  • it's pretty funny, at 2:06 thru 2:08 he mumbles the words " sittin on the resting my bones" hahah he must of forgot the words to that part

  • eddie vedder can f@$%ing sing

    A well done cover

  • Good cover but Otis Redding's voice for this one is just untouchable. Fair play though they made it their own.

  • Its kinda funny he screws up the lyrics, but still manages to pull off a kick ass song...

  • Damn, I heard this cover first time in 99', I always thought Pearl Jam played this gig alone, but who is that guitarist joining them. The one doing the solo part?

  • teve Cropper

  • @abm2387 Of course, from Booker T & The MG's.. I actually recognize him now.. Thx =)

  • Eddie Veder is a God. He is soo underrated..

  • What i wouldnt give to be there.... 94, peak Pearl Jam years...

  • i dunno man i think they kinda peaked from 91 to 2010...

  • Pretty broad peak i'd say :) well even if i may get shot for saying this... although i'm not hugely into their latest 3 albums i saw them about 2 months ago and they still freakin rock the stage.... They still dominate! so peak condition?? i agree.

  • best cover I listen to so far

  • Absolutely amazing cover!

  • decent attempt....decent....

  • Decent, what are you smoking, it was a great cover by Eddie Vedder

  • SWEET !!!!! show was on my B-day !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 90`s were good times for music... one of my all time favs

  • INCREIBLE

  • Great!!!!!

  • the greatest song ever played by the greatest rock band in the world...

  • Steve Cropper co-wrote this!

  • very nice....good

  • Jr. year of High school. Yeah buddy!!!

  • this is two months before I was born!

  • feels like 90's should be longer .... year 2000 is crap.

  • @brain1vsbrain2

    so fucking true and sad

  • @brain1vsbrain2 ugh yah!!!!

  • how good is this cover. the guitar solo in the middle is outstanding

  • brilliant guitar work. brilliant voice. brilliant song.

  • listen the people!!!

This song is a my favorites songs of all times... R.I.P. Otis Redding!

  • check your wiki, the two co-wrote it

  • Actually Otis Redding wrote this song...and he isn't an Aussie!

  • @atiawat Steve Cropper the guy in the background playing guitar is the one who wrote the song for Otis Redding. He also played with Booker T and the MG's and wrote Green Onions.

  • Comment removed

  • @jmbean68 Dont forget the "Blue's Brothers " band!

  • @atiawat Written by Otis Redding *and* Steve Cropper.

  • @atiawat He wrote the lyrics not the music, co-written by soul singer Otis Redding and guitarist Steve Cropper.

  • @atiawat Co-written by both Steve Cropper and Otis Redding, and it's Steve Cropper onstage there.

  • @atiawat -- Check record label or sheet music. Writing credit belongs to Redding and Steve Cropper.

  • @atiawat Actually Otis Redding co-wrote this song. Steve Cropper was the other co-writer. That would be the guy playing guitar here.

  • amazing!

  • Real glad to see this, it was one of my few Napster downloads... way back in those days now ten years ago.

  • Steve "the Colonl" Crapper! or Steve ''the Fat Guy'' Cropper

  • this loneliness wont leave me alone

  • Damn...I was at this show.....Most Energy from a concert I have ever attended...We were in the pit and I crowd surfed....it pured down rain after the show for the walk home....memories

  • Fucking liar

  • Steve "the Colonel" Cropper!

  • Wow many thanks for the post, I had this on a rarity PJ bootleg for years, what a pleasure too see it!

  • I was born in Murfreesboro in 1964. My ftaher was in the Air Force, we left around then and lived for a long time in Anchorage, Alaska. Figured people had a need to know that.

  • I had this song for years on "No F*&^ing Messiah".....cool to finally see it

  • legend

  • OMG!!!

I've heard this before but seeing it live...The chills I get. Thanks for putting this up. Wish he would cover this again when they go back on tour...

    :)

  • Eddie Vedder makes a wicked cover of almost any song.

  • i had this on a cd and it said it was DMB???

but pearl jam does make this song bad ass

  • Originally Otis Reading

  • redding

  • Steve Cropper wrote this song, Aussieman :)

  • Good but the original is better though the lead guitar is pritty cool.

  • Notice the other comments are just sentiment to the music. Yours is sentament to your own opinion on another song. Which is a round abouts reason to why there is a music debate under every half decent youtube music video.

    Cut it out man. Seriously.

  • Hey fk u i gave my respect to the original and this version. Then there are those who like to insult people because they have different oppinions in music. Get a life dude

    Cut it out man. Seriously.

  • wow, is so good. great cover

  • just perfect!!!!

  • hahah i thought it was boom gaspar

  • Not with the force of Otis' version.

  • i really love this song, i also do like this version better than the original!

  • who is that big guy back there?

  • Steve cropper he co-wrote the song with Otis redding...

  • My all-time favorite band covering my all-time favorite song (and they made it even better)!

  • is there ANYTHING this man CAN'T SING WELL?!

  • I love this!!

  • Pearl Jam doing Otis Redding!! That's Surreal 5 Stars

  • I remember this concert well...pouring rain outside,Kings X opened and all was well!!!!Man,we need a band like Pearl Jam to save rock music......

  • No way!

Musta been the same tour (King's X)

they broadcasted on the radio from

    the Greek Theater in Atlanta.

    That was killer.

Still have the recording, on tape 8D

  • I love this version that PJ did. One of my favorite songs to bring along while at the beach. Thanks for sharing.

  • This was my 1st concert ever! I was 14... Good times.

  • that is awesome!!!

  • Steve "The Colonel" Cropper..excellent!

  • sitting in msg with pearl jam 6/25

  • This is why I love PJ. You can discover reverse musical sides ever and ever again. Which other (rock) band could play this great song this way? It's amazing when Eddie starts to sing!

  • sweet!

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE pearl jam and this version of the song!!! Fabulous!

  • just awesome

  • It's crazy that I was at this show in Murfreesboro... Actually, the crazy part is that by chance, I'm wearing the shirt I bought at the show at this very moment. lol ... Yes, I still have it and I still get more compliments on it than any other shirt I've ever owned. (The gray one with the little puppet guy on it.) Thanks for the video!

  • I was at this live performance. They did it two or three numbers after the encore ( after Pearl Jam had done their full set). Everyone ate it up that night.

  • brill

  • This song is the Shit! I love this Pearl Jam cover, it is the best! Thanks for loading this gndcd402, I had been looking for this song for a long time! Great Stuff!

  • this song isalways fucking breathtaking

  • im speechless.

  • that blows my mind....thank you!!

  • Who is Eddie referring to when he says "It's an honor to be able to play one of his songs with him here tonight."? Is it Michael Bolton? Otis Redding died in '67, well before Pearl Jam was around.

  • Steve Cropper. He helped write the song with Otis

  • he was also in the Blues Brothers band in the movie

  • wow this is really good.

  • wow this is really good.

  • Jeez, I am looking for this song and who has it again...GARY!!! Thanks buddy!

    What a fantastic cover!!

    XX

  • man eddie does this song justice

  • oh, also, cropper was not only otis' guitarist, but actually wrote and produced this song in particular

  • they became pricks?? who??

They´re the nicest guys in the whole earth!!!

  • hahaha sure.

a buddy of mine met eddie vedder at some toronto film festival junket...he was an asshole...not that i dont like his music or anything, but good musicians does not equal good people, you shouldnt get the two mixed up

on a side note, steve the colonel cropper is awesome...not as good as otis reddings version, but interesting nonetheless

  • ur saying hes a jerk cuz he was an ass, hes always been like that. and actually he hates the fame and shit, I wouldn't say hes a cocky musician and thinks hes the shit cuz hes got a great band, hes just got an attitude, or maybe a bad day

  • nor did i...i just said he was an ass. nothing more, nothing less.

ive bought every pearl jam album they've released, so it's not like im anti-vedder or pj...just saying they arent the nicest people in the whole world...as brunono1 was implying

  • eddie vedder has been here in portugal quite a few times now, he hangs out with us, goes surfing, stays after the concert for a few days just to chill around "normal" people.

I wouldn't , by any means, ever categorize him as an asshole, much the contrary in fact

  • Was at this show WAS AMAZING! too bad they became pricks!.... I miss DAVE A!

  • the man has been died for years how can he be here tonight did I miss somthin

  • Yes you did miss something,it's Steve Cropper,Otis Redding's guitar player, onstage with them not Otis himself.

  • ok thanks I did miss that part great video

    the Vedderman
