Hey, dychui! Thank goodness that I found you on YouTube! I'm actually trying to learn the Castilian Spanish at the moment. My paternal grandmother was actually from Madrid, which is one of the main reasons why I'm so interested. But, there are some things in grammar that I have a bit of trouble with. Anyway, keep doing what you're doing.
@cives882 Hi! I'm so happy to help you in your quest :). Hopefully I can make a video soon about certain features of the Madrilian accent. It's hard to make those types of videos because the best you can provide is a small sample of a regional dialect, and you can't really claim that all Spaniards or even all Madrilians speak this way. Oh well, I plan on doing that soon so keep your eyes peeled! :) If you need help let me know
dude you have to understand that there are many accents in the spanish world, people with good education sound more smart and the accent is totally different to the typical mexican
I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed your five videos and even though I'm not learning Spanish yet. I love how you spoke and I especially like the parts where you spoke Spanish. When I was watching part one, I though "oh my God, this is going to be so boring" but when I got to your second video, I actually found it very interesting! Please keep up the amazing Spanish videos!
@ick709 Hi Ick! I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. It came out longer than I thought it would :). I hope you subscribe! After this academic quarter is over I will have more time to upload things related to language-learning.
@dychui I'm glad they came out longer to be honest! They were the best five YouTube videos I have watched in a very long time and I will definitely subscribe to you..But I do have one question for you if you don't mind answering it? I don't know whether you are Chinese, Japanese, Korean or any other Asian country, but is your native language Chinese, Japanese or Korean? If you're not from any Asian country, please forgive me.
@ick709 Hi Ick! I'm Chinese-American. I was born in the Bay Area, CA :). I do speak some Mandarin, but relatively poorly. I have a video "speech in Mandarin/Spanish" where you can see my Mandarin, which makes my Mom burst into uncontrollable bouts of laughter.
I really enjoyed watching all of your videos. I have a very good knowledge of basic reading/writing, grammer, vocab, and verbs but I need to work on my speaking and listening. I am going to start listening to podcasts everyday. Gracias por tu ayuda.
Wow! You're my motivation! Demonstrating how well you've practiced Spanish and speak it like a pro... Wow! This really makes me want to refurbish my not so well spoken Spanish. My Spanish is broken, yet my parents are fluent with theirs. It makes conversations very awkward. But you make it seem effortless and I'm soooo jealous ^_^
great tips. I just finished watching all 5 videos and you got me pumped to start working hard with my Spanish again. I studied in Ecuador and the DR for about 8 months total, but have slid back a little in the past few years. Good luck man!
That coche/cotse thing is really interesting (y un poco extraño, lol). Have you heard the usage of the English "j" sound in the word "mujer" vs. the h-like sound? I had watched this telenovela hace mucho y unas amigas del programa siguieron llamándose a una a otra "mujer" but like moo-jayr instead of moo-hayr. I didn't know if was a regional thing or what. Anyway, thanks!
@TheLordsPrecious Hi LordsPrecious, thank you so much for your comment! In fact, your observation is completely correct! First of all, after paying closer attention I feel that the coche/cotse thing is actually a much more widespread phenomenon than I had originally anticipated. Overall, the pronunciation of the /ch/ in Spain is much more alveolar; this is called depalatalization.
Regarding your observation with the word mujer, I'm not sure what phenomenon it is but I believe you! Cool! :)
@dychui Regarding mujer, that would be changing a sound which is normally [h] or [x] to [dz]. In most of Latin America and Spain, the pronunciation is [x] with varying degrees of friction; in Northern Spain and in Jaen the [x] is very fricative. In Southern Spain it is closer to Latin American, while in some parts of Mexico and in Heritage language speakers it is closer to [h], less fricative than [x] and more aspirated. Now I'm curious in what region they change [x] to [dz] (the J in John)
Hey there! I love everything that ur saying in this video! I can recognize the passion that u have in the language because I have that exact passion! Your vids really motivated me!! Are you trying to do anything in your career with Spanish? If so what are you doing?
@Mecklybver hey Mecklybver, thanks for watching! Even though it is in English about learning Spanish, the fundamentals are really the same. Luckily, English and Spanish are languages that are syntactically very similar (unlike Mandarin and English, for example). You mentioned that pronunciation is one of your areas that needs improvement. Have you tried recording yourself? I record myself all the time and it helps a lot to see where I need to improve.

@dychui No thank you! A request: I posted a comment on the first video (1/5) that you may have missed because I overwhelmed your vids with comments haha; I'm wondering if you could glance at that and let me know if I'm headed in the right direction.
Thanks! Buena suerte with your studies at the grad/doc level. Very admirable endeavor indeed.
i sat down and watched all ur videos...they are extremely helpful, i am doing a degree in spanish language...i hope to be fluent by the end of it!! thank you for ur advice!
@queenj91 Dear Queen, I really appreciate your feedback and I'm glad my videos were helpful (even though it was a bit of an odyssey)! Thank you for subscribing. Hope to hear from you more often; if you have any questions don't be shy :).
I'll check out your channel later. Do you have videos where you are speaking Spanish? By the way, the interview with the Nigerian actress is great! I'm going to have to watch it all later. What a charming accent :) is that her real accent?

@ick709 In that sense, the titles of my Chinese speaking Spanish videos are relatively misleading, since culturally I am American.
