  • I like this deaf commercial and this shows two men act very good in the commercial.

  • Is cool xD

  • haha! nice show!

  • Anyone noticed that bob's house is based on 2 Deaf man looking for Bob's house in order to watch a football game... yet everyone in the neighborhood is sleeping????? isn't that a little, strange?

  • I agree. Most people are awake before kickoff. Otherwise, it was ok. I suppose.

  • Did they show this commerical?? I must have missed it??

  • I always drink Pepsi. I drink other stuff, but Pepsi is my favorite, and being an ASL student made me enjoy this commercial, and I hope to see more.

  • BOO-YAH...deaf people..repesent.

  • "barrage." for god's sake.

  • a poster or two commented on this being the first deaf ad, actualy its not, here in canada we had a commercial featuring someone signing. I forget what it was for but it was a breakfast commercial.

  • There have been some of those in the USA too. However this is the first to actually show an aspect of Deaf culture. In this case, it's based on a joke from Deaf culture.

I can remember seeing a phone commercial, an oreos commercial, and so forth in ASL. However this is the first that actually brings up an aspect of Deaf culture instead of a couple of people signing on TV.

  • Let me rephrase: meant to say people with differences, not "disabilities". Political correctness...sigh. Still, I'm disabled, myself. Doesn't bother me.

    *Storm*

  • I drink Coke, but will be changing to Pepsi, on account of including those with disabilities in their ads. Thank you: being disabled myself, I appreciate this!

    *Storm* in Texas

  • Genius at its best.

  • Thank you for including the deaf community, PepsiCo!!!! I taught my children(who are mildly autistic)to sign at an early age. It helped with their speech and communication. Best of all, they are able to speak today!!!!

  • Was it actually played during the Super Bowl? I didn't see it.

  • i think this is truly awesome! lol my family is hearing and they fell out of their chairs laughing at this commercial. i thank PepsiCo for being openminded enough to do this commercial and those who were brave enough to do it!

  • Did you know???

all people smile in the same langauge

  • I wanna see more deaf ads!

  • Oh For crying out loud, it's an advert! A joke, a humorous interlude, a play on a deaf joke which I've heard many a time, excuse the pun! Get a life!

  • shut up. my parents are deaf so...go get a life

  • This is such an awesome idea and extremely innovative. Way to think outside-of-the-box. And the joke is HILARIOUS and I'm not deaf! Great work on this! Whoever came up with idea within enAble or Pepsi should be given a HUGE pat on the back.

  • I think this is wonderful and REALLY innovative of PepsiCo.

And yeah, I get the joke too!

  • hearing world is lame.

  • Had Bob been received cochlear implants, he could enjoy not only the video but the rich audio. This promotes an old stereotype. And the parents of deaf children (80-90% of whom are hearing) are not aware of options for oral deaf education. If Pepsi wants to be totally inclusive, it could could contribute to private oral schools who receive no state funding. I hope this opens up a dialog that provides information on both the deaf community and those who choose to live in a hearing world.

  • Cochlear implants do NOT work for everyone! They may be a good option for some, but are useless for others. And the audio you get with them is *nothing* like what the actual cochlear can hear. Frankly, I think the old stereotype is that deaf people want to be hearing, not vice versa. People should be able to choose what they want, but this ad is supporting DIVERSITY.

  • Oral deaf education really doesnt provide much in the educational sense. In some oral programs...kids are in kindergarten until they are 9 years old.

In programs with bilingual/bicultural education language access and information access is done early (providing that it is done right). Unfortunately in America, this doesn't always happen. But Sweden has had a lot of success.

  • (cont.)

I dont see why it has to be "oral only" or "ASL only". I've known kids with CIs who are completely bilingual in English and ASL. They are not limited in any way.

  • My wife, who teaches in an oral program, had 2 CI kids back in the 80s who were implanted late. One just graduated from UVA, his sister is a sr. at Washington & Lee. You are correct that early intervention is the key.

  • Thank Pepsi so much for bringing the awareness of our language and our culture to those millions of viewers who are naive to our world. Awesome...words can not describe the happiness and the tears to me. Finally maybe ASL can finally be seen as a LANGUAGE _\m/

  • KUDOS

  • Brian Dowling, thought you'd like to know Walmart did a commerical with deaf person in it a few years ago. But yeah, never like this, no audio and purely based on deaf culture. Thank you for doing this!

  • I ONLY DRINK PEPSI FROM NOW ON!!! this is wonderful...

  • i dont drink soda, so i wont be helping in this effort.

  • very very nice, im a big time tv commercial fan and this has got to be one of the best, not only for its humour but mostly for its message, great job pepsi

  • As a person with a disability, I think this ad is GREAT! I am glad to see that persons with disabilities are given chances to broaden their horizons as well as participate in something so worthwhile!

  • Too bad Pepsi or someone else for them hasn't posted a "described" audio or text track that describes the video for people with vision impairments. . . we want to include everyone don't we?

  • pepsi didn't post this video...someone else did so they couldn't add adescription of audio!!

  • im in a beginner sign language class right now, so this commercial is going to be a very cool thing to see during the super bowl. i think it is a very smart idea, and my sign language teacher, who is deaf, has been so excited for this. i think pepsi is doing a great thing by making this commercial.

  • haha thats funny

my parents are deaf and they were SO happy when they saw this, and im glad they did this too. hopefully they will make more commericials with deaf people.

    =].

  • This was like first time ever for deaf commerical, what a thought from Pepsi CO! :-)

I know Bob Canty, Im happy for him.

  • WOW. this is great!!!! way to go Pepsi!!

  • Next year, maybe a new commercial with Marlee Matlin, Phyllis Frelich and that FUNNY "Deaf Lawyer" actor from Florida, that skinny pager lawsuit guy, they should make a funny one for next year's SB! Such as everyone meeting up at Grandma Phyllis' house and funny things happening such as "me next for the dip...." passing around a famous dip??? Frito Lay Onion Dip? Luv Martha Coulter, who once played YOUR DAUGHTER, Phyllis! Contact me at 609-777-2005 VP!!!!!!!

  • :::::::::::::::two thumbs up!!!:::::::::::::

  • ooookay, the sign used for "Pepsi" is also the same for "Italy" unless the sign has changed over time. What's the story with that sign?

  • Jonesing1234 Yes the sign has always been like that, at least since 1980's. It looks like Italy, but it's shorter, and also context. There is newer sign for Italy now (PC community)

  • The ad shows Deaf culture, a sense of humor, and ordinary life, to Deaf and hearing ppl, and gives a chance for ppl to get curious and talk about it and get involved. The ad is a first step. More, more! This can help all communities toward equality and inclusiveness. Me? Hearing's fine, vision's not.

  • Very good Ad! Me, as a marketing student, appreciate very much this innovative and real ad campaign from PepsiCo and Enable, very human, it's even a heart touching ad. At the end we're all the same!

  • Can't wait to see the commercial on Sunday, we as deaf people need more opportunities like these to express are ability to others.

  • This is really cool - I have to admit I have never seen a commercial that is geared towards Deaf persons - well done for PepsiCo for creating this ! :D

  • Hey I think this is awesome...just a little tid bit....the Deaf do not like to be called hearing impaired as is stated on the comments for this video....but maybe you are deaf and I am not teeling you anything new =)

  • What an awesome silence! I am very proud of this commercial especially the deaf actor named Darren who sits as passenger. He is from our school, Clarke School for the Deaf. I will definitely switch from Coke to Pepsi for its great support on deaf employees of Pepsi!

  • Wow, I'm surprised that he went to Clarke school and he still signs? That's GREAT!!

  • Yes,he signs very well... amd he also has C.I. Most people who graduated from Clarke School learned sign language at colleges of NTID and Gallaudet...

  • MsDAK123 yep, I went to Gally and met lots from Clarke who were just learning ASL and Signs. LOL obviously keeping sign language away from Deaf oral does not work since ASL will be learned anyway! :-)

  • Looking forward seeing the actual commercial .

It has been a long time since I see a Deaf commercial since the McDonald's ad..

  • This is great commentary but what happened to the captioned portions of Bobbie Scroggins (NAD President) dialogue about 1:25-1:35 and the second portion of Brian's comments at about 1:45-1:55?? I realize this is not the ad itself, but for those who are both sign language impaired as well as hearing impaired who can't understand the voice over, would be cool if there was greater continuity!! ;-)

  • my thoughts exactly...

  • Sad. 90% of all deaf people were born to hearing people. If you're hearing, I hope you consider not participating in the Gene Pool, so as not to muddy the waters. You might leave a legacy of deaf people with finer minds then yours...

  • Sorry you feel this way.. Perhaps you need to get some help since you have issues..

  • this looks like it's going to be really funny and have a good message

  • I could care less about the Super Bowl but now I will have to TIVO it for this ad! ;)

  • dont have to TIVO.. you can find it on YouTube

if you search under..Bob's House -- Pepsi' New Superbowl add

  • deafpersonal,

you didnt not see this video at deafloves? WTF?

  • Good job Pepsi!

Wish more companies would get the idea and provide more access to all.

ASL is the 3rd most used language in the USA.

Big business get smart! If you don't do it just cuz it's "the right thing to do" then think about the untapped market you can reach.

  • PAH PAH...About the time to have Deafies on Superbowl Ads...Thank You, PEPSI!!

Yeah, I am a Pepsi addict!!!

  • Yes, Indeed more commercials for Deaf.. Why not..

    Keep up!

I wish I could part of TV commercial!

    (chuckles)

  • Neat

  • Cool idea - I've never seen anything like this.

  • sounds like a great idea

  • two thumbs up on the commercial. looking forward to seeing it superbowl sunday!

  • this seems like a great idea...my compliments towards pepsi!

  • Very excited to see what the real spot will be!

  • can't wait to see the actual commercial!

  • Wow - this is pretty innovative. Go Pepsi!

  • word. very funny. let the super bowl ad madness begin!

  • Sounds good.
