OMG! I work at a Subway in RI and I deal with Spanish speakers all the time. They dont speak english and just point at food instead. I hate that! It bothered me so much that I actually looked up the translations for some of our items and learned how to ask questions like, would you like a drink or chips, do you want this toasted, what kind of sauce and since I strted doing that, It makes making orders easier, but I also get very strange looks from those people. yes, if you intend to move there learn the language first, specially if you can read this cause it was proven the English language is the hardest to learn, so if you know English you can go learn another language. even if your not fluent it's better then nothing, some countries such as japan even honor for knowing a little but don;t trust you if you know to much because they feel your infringing on their culture. so atleast learn enough to get through a average work day.

Yes, I think anyone from any country should learn the language of the country they're moving to, but becoming fluent takes time. It doesn't happen overnight.

There are a few people in quite a few of my classes who speak English as a second, third, or even fourth language, so if they're having some trouble with their speech, I try to be patient.

I mean, I'm only in Spanish 3. I would sound like an idiot anywhere outside of my classroom :P
