We had 23 years without so much as an argument. I'm so lonesome I am crying. One day we'll be together again, never more to part. It can't happen too soon.

I don't know if all you people know it or not.... but this is the recording that started all the country music craze.... Yep, it's documented at the birthplace of country music museum in Bristol, Tennessee.... Hank was the first country "superstar"...
This is not aboutblack, chinese, irish jewish. Did you ever hear the song blackbird by the beatles? Do you know who they called the fifth Beatle? Billy Preston, the keyboard great from the day. Do you think the Beatles cared about skin color? Please
This song reminds me of my father singing along with his guitar. Hank Williams was one of his favorite singers. Thank you dad for giving me deep roots in music
@Lundy & andrea - yeah I grew up listening to Hank too my dad was a big fan. I liked him then and still like his music - one of the great singer songwriters of our times.
Also, given the fact that race is an unscientific concept (a ridiculous social construct humans have created), what you really should've is "I'm talking about ghetto people, not all darker-toned people" when you said "I'm talking about ghetto, disrespectful humans, not an entire race." So you're basically talking about people based on skin-tone, which is extremely ignorant. And this very type of thinking that likely CAUSED those minorities to be ghetto and disrespectful in the first place!
@StevenThePhilosopher LOL I had just replied to him asking why he had to specify he was black, then I saw this barrage of replies to that very subject xD
Also, referring to people as "ghetto" and "disrespectful" is extremely prejudiced. Ghetto implies that someone is impoverished, most likely. Blacks, Indians, and Hispanics are about twice as likely to be poor than whites. Thus, you're basically saying that minorities are disrespectful humans (or "niggers"). Yet, this ignores the environments and conditions in which they live largely as a result of past discrimination/enslavement/exploitation at the hands of whites. Learn some damn history.
I FIND BLACK PEOPLE IGNORANT WHEN THEY CALL THEMSELVES NIGGERS ITS A DEGRADING WORD THAT SLAVES USED TO MAKE THEM FEEL LIKE SHIT AND THEY HAVE USED IT AND MOULDED IT IN TO SOMETHING TO CALL THEM SELVES YOUR A HUMAN BEING WE ALL ARE DON'T DEGRADE YOURSELF TO SOMETHING LESS THERE EXCEPTING THEMSELVES AS CRAP WE AREN'T WE ARE ALL UNIQUE SPECIAL PEOPLE ABLE TO THRIVE AND BE BRILLIANT
@TheLoveNotWar1000 -- "Niggers (ghetto disrespectful humans) are a disgrace to humanity along with scums on this planet." --- There are both ghetto and disrespectful humans from every walks of life, and "niggers" is a poorly-chosen word to describe them all. "I'm talking disrespectful humans, not an entire race." --- Race is a meaningless, unscientific concept that humans use to categorize people based on superficial traits or appearances. Maybe "bad people" would be better than "niggers."
@jugalicious123 --- there's nothing wrong with integrating a word once used with prejudiced malice and reforming it into something more personal. Also, it's "nigga," not "nigger." Blacks don't call themselves "niggers" -- whites call them that. And "nigga" is just slang based on the available linguistic material. It easily means "bro" or "neighbor." Also, I don't see why everyone is talking about the word nigger; are all country-lovers racists??? Get with the times.
But that's just it. There are no niggers, only people. Maybe people you don't understand, or whose way of life you don't agree with, that's your business. But, people are just people. Why do you need to label them that way?
Only those who have walked the long and winding road can know the passion of this song. There are no shortcuts. Friday, November 25, 2011 (C.E.), 12:50 AM (Eastern Standard Time)

@Iwillslapyoutwice --- Very cool. I mostly listen to classic rock, heavy metal, rap, and classical music, but Hank Williams Sr. is just universal music that transcends the genre of country. It's just great music anyone can appreciate. It's well-written and timeless.

I was raised on this music and I will raise my kids on this music because this is REAL country music not Taylor Swift and i'm 15 years old and i've never really liked the new "country" i've always listened to Hank Sr. & Jr., Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and George Jones just to name a few
Now this is real country music. This is the kind of country music I grew up listening to. I am almost 74 years old and the so called country singers today couldn't carry their jock straps.

HOW MANY GENERATIONS WILL BE BLESSED WITH THIS MANS MUSIC ? NEVER TOO MANY. ALL TIME GREAT ARTIST . A TRUE ASSET TO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. THANKS HANK!!!!!!!!!
the robert frost of country.. underrated lyricist. everything sounds so easy w/ hank.. people overlook the genious he had to make it all come together.
Sounds like the post WWII shift of young white and black country boys from the south going up north to the big cities to try find work . It has the nervous almost proto-rockabilly pace to it, those young men out of their element, shuffling their feet, just wanting to get back on that train and go home.
Whipporwill's are a nocturnal bird quite similiar to barn owls. They have a unique song the males sing at dusk and their singing is quite loud.
This song reflects on the decline of our relationship with the natural spirits. Hank was into "Old Time Religion" a faith based more on spirituality whereas modern religion is mostly dogmatic and becoming increasingly secular. Early country music and Christial Revitalism together are making a substantial comeback with today's young persons.
old school country pwns new age country. taylor swift can go to folsom prison for all i care, and honky tonk badonkadonk can get its ass kicked by the highwaymen any day of the week
God, this is beautiful. It should not matter if you like country music or not to like this song. This is some of the finest music produced in the U.S., maybe the world.
@hauserandrewj i think they do that to show that not all young people are "bad" and listen to just rap etc. it think it's great that some kids are open and like it :)
Seeing more than a few racist comments here. Obviously these people are all unaware this type of music originated directly from Afro-American music....
Telling a hateful supremist they are many ways wrong is much like telling a dead man he is dead and expecting him to understand and respond. The dead don't know they are dead, only those of us alive can see death.
"Country" is just a marketing category. Hank's music came from what he listened to and what he felt. Sure, the Carter Family is in there and he certainly listened to Earl Monroe but so is an old Black blues guitarist who taught Hank so much of what he knew.
i remember the stories my grandfather would tell me of this man many years ago. about how he was writing songs so fast the record company thought he was stealing music. so they locked him in a room and told him to write 3 songs. only 1 hour later this great man walked out of that room with 3 new songs. one of them being the timeless classic "mansion on the hill" there will never be a man that comes close to this great man
I'm 15 years old and i used to think that all country was people like taylor swift and those people who i now relized are not even close to country, but after hearing johnny cash and Hank Williams its one of my favorite generes of music...
@cowpunkKkkountry obviously you meant offence, cause your basically saying he is not entitled to express any sort of opinion. EVERYONE has life experiance and EVERYONE has every right to comment on any subject matter they want to. It is NEVER your place to judge anyone nor the validity of their statements, especially someone you never meet. Don't see how his statement concerns "life experiance" anyhow, maybe you could enlighten me. And whats with the KKK in your handle? Racist much?
@2bassguitarist2 This is good country! Don't listen to that watered down radio crap because this is where the heart of it is. Listen to some Loretta Lynn, too!

@dachamp07 THOSE are heartstrings not violins, properly called fiddles in country music.

Early country music and Christial Revitalism together are making a substantial comeback with today's young persons.

old school country pwns new age country. taylor swift can go to folsom prison for all i care, and honky tonk badonkadonk can get its ass kicked by the highwaymen any day of the week
gwarriorfromhell 6 months ago 2
God, this is beautiful. It should not matter if you like country music or not to like this song. This is some of the finest music produced in the U.S., maybe the world.
runemal909 6 months ago 2
all these little kids can quit putting their age on every one of these videos, you dont need to be old to enjoy good music
hauserandrewj 6 months ago
@hauserandrewj i think they do that to show that not all young people are "bad" and listen to just rap etc. it think it's great that some kids are open and like it :)

Interesting version. Up to now, I only heard Elvis sing this.

There is a spiritual analogy here...

what does being 15 years old have to do with anything? If the guy says the song means something to him where is it your place to doubt him?

"Country" is just a marketing category. Hank's music came from what he listened to and what he felt. Sure, the Carter Family is in there and he certainly listened to Earl Monroe but so is an old Black blues guitarist who taught Hank so much of what he knew.
WillInNewHaven 6 months ago
@WillInNewHaven Bill Monroe, of course. Or Earl Scruggs, I suppose. But I was thinking of Monroe.

i remember the stories my grandfather would tell me of this man many years ago. about how he was writing songs so fast the record company thought he was stealing music. so they locked him in a room and told him to write 3 songs. only 1 hour later this great man walked out of that room with 3 new songs. one of them being the timeless classic "mansion on the hill" there will never be a man that comes close to this great man

@2bassguitarist2
No offense, but how does a 15 year old get to claim somethin on the basis of life experience?
cowpunkKkkountry 6 months ago
@cowpunkKkkountry obviously you meant offence, cause your basically saying he is not entitled to express any sort of opinion. EVERYONE has life experiance and EVERYONE has every right to comment on any subject matter they want to. It is NEVER your place to judge anyone nor the validity of their statements, especially someone you never meet. Don't see how his statement concerns "life experiance" anyhow, maybe you could enlighten me. And whats with the KKK in your handle? Racist much?
datdereduck 6 months ago
@2bassguitarist2 I suggest you check out Charley Pride too.. very underated singer.
