I actually in joy cake so much because of the way he sings lol I love how he's not an amazing singer and sounds as if he"s just talking it goes perfect with the music
so what if he's not the best singer in the world, he's a hipster, it's all about the delivery. there arent enough hipsters left in modern music, it's just him and beck.
my moms guitarist know the band. he is good friends with the guitarist in the band and is always taunting me about how they used to always play together. i've been listening to cake since i was 2, parents have good taste.
@hobgoblinlkjfdsa well, that may be, but I mean...look at em... that crowd is totally dead. Maybe a head bobble every once in a while - other than that, totally lifeless - moreso than zombies
@Bawdyknocker perhaps they are zombies? what if this is an necromancer ceremony, and CAKE is finally letting us into their plan to take over the world through song...
Did this make anyone else think of the Southpark episode with the hippies? The one that parodies "The Core". Yeah. I'm waiting for that machine the dude from "Crooklyn" built to come grinding through. Any minute now...
The dude's voice encompasses every voice used to sway your opinion or sooth your delicate nerves. Sportscaster, anchorman, clergy, therapist, oh, and singer. His voice has all of the pleasing qualities common to any audio-based medium. It goes a step further, becoming something unique and downright mesmerizing. Basically... KNEEL BEFORE YOUR MASTER
i know most of you won't agree with me when i say this, but i think that CAKE are the American Radiohead. Not copying them or anything, just they both use all sorts of instruments, sort of a gloomy sound, the themes they approach. i love them both.
Ok, I would be rocking the f out, why aren't these people dancing, man? Why didn't they play this at the Fillmore??? My life will never be fulfilled...
lots of mid and treble, its miced improperly, and the guitar is super old. in an interview he said hes had it since he was 14, and doesnt remember the last time he changed the strings lol
his singing style is sometimes called "Sprechgesang"... obviously German- it's kind of a mix between talking and singing... there's an interesting wiki entry on it
dude, cake doesnt warrant jumping around. at least, not to me. I find it tough not to stare in awe and its almost nearly impossible for me to suppress tears at the end of some songs (namely Frank Sinatra and Sheep go To Heaven for example)
they are screaming and shouting the lyrics. i would be singing too.
this is so sick! my mom used to listen to these guys when i was younger. now im 17 and starting to become obsessed. These live videos are just amazing.

Yes, I agree. Amazing band. Almost has it all. Great grooves, fantastic lyrics... the singer just has very limited range and also sounds tone deaf. Never said I was better, guy.
Tone deaf? Maybe he's monotone, but I'm pretty sure he hits his notes dead on. The delivery is rather unique and makes him seem as if he's not all too talented at singing, but he damn well hits the notes in terms of pitch. As for how high he can go, just check out the vid of him singing "Wheels" on Jimmy Kimmel live. Fairly impressive.
Well, it seems as if half the userbase of youtube that watches live concert videos has no knowledge of music in general, so it ends up lying upon a certain few to correct them.
Great my friend! I'm a great Cake fan too, so how d'you interpret "Sheep Go To Heaven"? Seems like everyone owns his own opinion on this song.. Just comment this vid and I'll try to answer you... See you!...
I think John Mac Crea was a bit depressed when he wrote "Take It All Away",as many artists, noticely after the events of September 9/11 in New York, but he recovered, and 2007's "B-Sides and Rarities" is really cool...I think there's hope for the future, because you know,I don't believe in "The end of the world" and all that crap...
June 28, 2:25 a.m. :the audience enjoyed the show, but I'd had lunch only one hour before, so it made singing quite difficult...You can't sing with a full stomac!... Nevermind, they liked it, that's the most important!...
cake goes smooth man the food and the band man:D they look and sound how they play the have there own CAKE genre and its BEAUTIFUL idont know about you but this dosent look like a boring concert it looks like a kick back, listening to good ol ROCK n ROLL if i was there right there iLL be sittin right there eating sum choclate cake, listening to the BEST band EVER!! :D or jumping up and down moving my head!! CAKE!!!!!:D
"car after bus after car after trucks after this my lungs will be so f****d up..."...In fact he stays polite on public! Not on the album version! So I agree with you DEMONIIIK...
I adore John Mac Crea...His texts are elaborated and as an "amateur" (that is to say "non-professionnal") singer I love what he does...Here's my "private" compilation: 1.Wheels (cover with the homeless finding a telephone) 2.Carbon Monoxide and Never There (Live) 3.Short Skirt/Long Jacket (Interview) 4.Long Line Of Cars 5.Love You Madly 6.Satan Is My Motor 7.You Turn The Screws 8.Walk On By 9.Sheep Go To Heaven 10.Hem Of Your Garment 11.Let Me Go (Manga Version) 12.War Pigs Have fun
primus are definately original, not a fan of clutch radiohead ehhh im flipsy bout them and spongle will have to check out....
