Thank you so much for this lesson. I play guitar for my music ministry and my wife bought me a classical [practice] guitar at Christmas. I love it and I've just bought new strings but had no idea how to string it. Too many years playing standard steel-string acoustic. Can't wait for the new strings to settle in. God bless!
I just changed strings on a classical guitar for the first time last week, but they wouldn't stretch far enough for me to tune it right! Almost every string broke before it got to the right note. Should I leave time for them to stretch? Please help! thanks
I love the reverb on your voice---it makes you sound like your giving this stringing lesson directly from heaven or the afterlife anyway... very good lesson.
I need some help with tuning my E string!!! Yesterday I opened my guitar case after not having played for a couple of years. I tried to tune the guitar, but I could not get the high note in the E-string. It kept on sounding like the second string. SoI tightened the string more to get a higher note, but It snapped! So I went to the store to buy new strings. Again the same case. How do I get the high note in my E-string??? I hope someone can help me...
for those out there, who're as new to this as me, careful not to pull the strings too taut before you start winding - speaking from experience, thats how you snap a low E =P
@notsocrazyguy It depends on the guitar. I like high tension strings for one of my guitars and normal for the other. Try both and see which you prefer for the individual guitar.
i bought a hohner parlour half size guitar for 45 bucks, and it has classical strings. thanks for the help, now if i only could play worth i damn i'd be set =P
how come these kind of guitars have the whole neck next to the hole and it ends with 18 or 19 frets and other acoustic guitars have 22 like an electric guitar
because one is a cut away acoustic guitar, ones in which you can actually play like in a electric guitar. Normal acoustic guitars just have 18-29 frets
Nylon strings take a day or so to break in. Make sure the weight of the string is on itself so it's not slipping. But it does go out of tune a lot when you first change the strings. They settle after a few days, but I still recommend tuning often.
what is the name of the song at the start. its realy nice. do u know of any other music like this. i am really in to it but i dont know what it is called or anyhting, please help
The poundage on a nylon set of strings and the poundage on steel strings is quite different. Its quite bad for the guitars to have strings they weren't designed for. If the steel strings are rough on your fingers, buy a cheap beginners classical guitar, please please dont put nylon on acoustics and steel on classicals. =]
Thank you! I just got my mom's old classical guitar out of retirement. I'm just learning how to play, and my mom doesn't remember much since it was such a long time ago. The 5th string was broken so it was really nice to get some clear instructions on how to put a new one on there. Thanks again.
You can put nylon strings on an acoustic guitar, but it doesn't sound as good. You're certainly welcome to try it. Just purchase a nylon string with a ball on the end so it can work with the pegs of an acoustic.
Hi, I have a La Patrie Seagul Etude. I am still playing it with the strings that came with the guitar when I bought, about 6 months ago. Does anyone have any suggestions for strings for this particular guitar? What sounds best? What tension? What maker? Stuff like that. Thanks.
It's not a good idea to use steel strings on a classical guitar. The steel strings put a lot more stress on the neck of a guitar. Steel string guitars usually have a metal rod inside the neck, classical guitars do not.
The best solution is to just buy a steel string guitar.

probably a dumb question but does it matter the order when stringing the guitar? like from 1-6 or from 6-1, or maybe 4-6 then 3-1? Thanks

What if you have Augustines with the little loop at the end... do you still tie or do you just use the loop?

@notsocrazyguy - Your priority strings should be:
1. Savarez
2. Augustine
3. D'addario
