  • Superb video. Thanks for posting this. Hick Tower is literally two miles from the neighborhood in East Chicago where I grew up. The sound of those trains will always be with me.

For those who asked, the drawbridges span the Indiana Harbor Ship Canal.

  • wow very interesting place, have to check it out sometime, or just come with you.

  • Just let me know ;)

  • Nice catch on the CSX trains. I hear these trains going through Michigan City on the Grand Rapids line.

  • really enjoyed this vid, thanks

  • any word on what they are going to do with the abandoned bridges?

  • They arn't bothering anything so they will be left like this forever. All the track leading up to the bridges is long gone.

  • nice video

  • I guess they don't call this area the "Rust Belt" for nothing. I believe this is just before you get to Chicago Union Station. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Odd, 5227 was working my area only a few months ago! Awesome video as always Frank

  • Funny looking switch engine at 6:07.

  • The train with UP power is my favorite for its unusual lashup.

1st, UP 3997's nose herald is much lower that usual.

    2nd, that's an interesting elephant lashup she's leading, with sister SD70M # 4332 and long-hood-forward GP38-2 NS #5227.

3rd, each unit's road number has a multiple of 11 for the middle digits!

  • The reason why UP 3997 has it nose herald is because it's an Ex-SP SD70M

  • excellent shots mate! 5*

  • Very nice video !

  • Cool video!

  • I actually think the name of this tower is funny.

We'ins gonna watch them thar trains at Hick y'all and drink us some might fine moonshine!

I take it there is a river there? Is it the Illinois?

  • I suspect it might be a canal.

It couldn't be the Illinois river, as this tower is in

    East Chicago, Indiana.

  • Yes this is some sort of industrial canal. I know it has a name, but I'm not going to guess.

  • Indiana Harbor Canal..from what I can tell..

  • Great video as always! Awesome location.
