The movie "Matinee" was sort of a homage to William Castle and the movie gimmick.
His two most popular gimmicks were 'Emergo" during House On Haunted Hill, where the skeleton flew across the audience as someone cranked it on a wire......The second one was the low voltage hookups beneath the theatre seats for "The Tingler."
America was right at that time, the economy was booming, and Americans enjoyed their movies, and William Castle was the gimmick man.
I can't believe I found it!! "Zotz!! I thought Jimmy Stewart played the lead role. But now I see it was Tom Poston. I saw the movie over 30 years ago and have not seen it since. I almost thought I had imagined it or something. What a fun movie. Fun for the whole family.
who remembers a Tom( Zots ) Poston movie where he goes to a castle , two siamese butlers (Jasper and Casper),a funny movie that i don't remember title.
Honestly, "Homicidal" was miles ahead of "Psycho." It was too bad that Bravo's "top 100 scary movies" didn't mention it. This movie was terrifying. I was 35 when I saw it, was scared, and love horror movies!
"He Knows You're Alone" is a shameless ripoff of "Halloween" as almost every scene was copied w/different actors (down to the music). "Homicidal" didn't do this (please don't give details). We appear to disagree. (It's a great movie, guys!)
70 cents for a movie?? Boy, that's a reaaaallll long time ago, isn't it?? Last time I paid that little for a movie, it was in 1980 at a 4th run movie house in Old Bridge, NJ, the Madison Twin. No heat in the winter & no a/c in the sumer, a torn screen mended w/Scotch tape & Black Oak Arkansas blaring loudly over the sound system from an 8 track player before & after the movie. I saw the Mormon Jesus movie there. What a trip!!
"Let them pay their 70 cents"...ah, the good old days.

5:30 - William Castle invented the "Bullet-Time" effect. Who knew?

I loved this schlocky Hitchschlock almost more than the real thing. He copies shamelessly but is more of a carnival barker.

Too bad Castle was a smoker.

WILLIAM CASTLE pioneered probably the first
interactive innovation...remember,he said that
"never before has the audience had the chance
to determine the fate of a character on the
screen"...
Great showman,some hokey films,but...what
a genius...who put the SHOW back in show
business!
Him...and Walt Disney...and a gifted few
others...

Even the screenwriter said in print William Castle rushed "Homicidal" into production after seeing "Psycho."
a) One-word title refers to a violent mental state.
b) Stabbing sequence.
c) Mysterious blonde heroine.
d) Strange old woman in old dark house.
e) Pretty second-lead heroine goes alone into dark house.
f) Plot twist involving sexual identity.
g) Ad campaign copied "Psycho."
i) Heroine "Miriam"; in "Psycho", "Marion."

The great scene was Tom Poston's character
vs. the mobsters.
But they didn't have a chance against ZOTZ!

It was called "The Old Dark House," another William Castle film from 1963. Peter Bull played Jasper and Casper Femm, the Siamese butlers.

Probably because so many people find it a shameless rip-off of "Psycho."
Miles ahead of "Psycho"? In what universe? Miles behind "Psycho" in most people's books.

Yeah, it's a great movie alright. Right up there with "The Ghost of Dragstrip Hollow" and "Blood of Dracula."
