Two days after this, on Sunday evening, I was watching a special on Cronkite's life on TV, and talking about what a good, long life he'd had. A few minutes later the phone rang. It was my youngest son telling me that my oldest son was dead, at age 26. I guess I will think about that every time I hear of Walter Cronkite, for the rest of my life.

Why did Cronkite get so much mileage out of label of objective journalist when he often injected his own bias, most notably his pronouncement from on high of his take on the Vietnam War. I was born in the latter part of the 1980s and I learned about Walter Cronkite around the year 2006 after I heard a recording of his emotional report when JFK was assassinated. When Walter died, I knew it marked the end of an era in a respect and I felt as if I lost a relative of my family.
