  • 'whispered into your brain, set you on a treadmill, and they made you change your name' - that's the fake-illuminatis that is about right there.

  • Marilyn deserved the song, Di didn't, simple as that

  • I love him like my soul he is a genius .... ^^

  • disney land bye peter

  • I hated the remake because this one was better and it was Marilyn's song.

  • @Magnus2131 This is Norma Jean's (aka Marilyn Monroe) song, and Elton slapped the Princess in the face by rewriting it for her. What a shame! he could've wrote an entirely new song for Di.

  • @1howlinwolf Agreed !!

  • @1howlinwolf I wouldn't call it a slap in the face. After being asked to perform at the funeral, Elton asked if he should write a new song but the officials who were running the funeral asked him to rewrite and sing Candle in the Wind. He would've wrote a new one otherwise.

  • One of the very few songs in my lifetime that I never, ever get tired of.

  • Great tribute to Marilyn Monroe.

  • amazing

  • If I'd been around in 1973, two records would have been a must for my collection: Dark Side of the Moon and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Sam Tyler picked the right year to go back to musically! :-)

  • Feel blessed to have this original version in the labum Love Songs!

  • "I would've liked to know you, but I just a kid" <3

  • this song is amazing

  • By far the best version. Awesome harmony and the lead guitar was perfecto.

  • This original version from the 1973 album is hardly ever played on the radio or anywhere. You always hear the 1987 live version, which is great, but this original version you never hear. Why is that? I spent the last year thinking that live version was the real deal, straight from the album, because with its live sound it sounds a lot like Bennie And The Jets, only the latter got it's live sound after it was recorded, so it's real in a way. This superb original version needs to be played more!!!

  • Man I wish I could have this song back. That annoying princess Di version somehow ruined it for me. I just can't hear it the same way again.

  • I always imagined playing this song at my school assembly to everyone could hear and love this song as much as I do. :) I just need Elton's voice!

  • This version has to be one of the best songs of all time. The tune itself, vocals, the backing vocals, the electric guitar.....and the impeccable timing of drummer Nigel Olssen. This must be the music they play in heaven.

  • Next time uderstand or you'll be left behind

  • Beautiful song...thanks!

  • I may get flamed for saying this. But I like the original far more then the 1997 version.

  • @Colddeed The 1997 version was never an attempt to be "better" than the unbeatable original - it was simply made by Elton as a one-off tribute to an extremely dear friend.

  • First time I seen him live 1975 Apollo Glasgow, all the songs from GBYBR blew my head away,Bernie Taupin without him Elton would not be where he is today, let's not forget that!!!

  • An arrogant SOB.... but one hell of an entertainer. YBR is one of my all time favorite albums.

  • @bob5944 really how is he arrogant? every time i have ever seen him he has always been so nice and sweet.

  • man, the courage it must take to notice all the world and write it down and sing it, knowing it includes you as well, and sing it anyway....

    thank you bernie Taupin

  • 1 person is a total bellend

  • classic album from a musical man in every way,,

  • Still one of the greatest songs. What an incredible start to the album: Funeral for a Friend, Love Lies Bleeding, Candle in the Wind, Bennie and the Jets, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Maybe the best sequence ever.

  • to think that back in 1975 my sister played this track and after hearing it l went and bought the album, even now this album is without doubt one of his best of all, thanks sis for the introduction,

  • Candle in the Wind- an all-time good ole day song!!!!

  • the best song ever

  • My brother, a great musician, was alway telling people and his bandmates this was a great song way back in the 70's, no one got it.

25 years later he said "Told Ya"

  • Long live "Sir Elton John"!!

  • tears

  • Still a great album after all these years.

  • So much better than the live version which became popular.

  • This entire album is full of gems!! Timeless and beautiful.

  • Honestly, I think I like the [live] version better, but that is just my opinion :) This version is still awesome though.

    Rock on Elton

  • very beautiful!

  • yes, this the original is the best, isnt it?it captures norma, and us when we heard it first on yellow brick road, even elton couldnt top this.

  • @thewish4 This is Elton... He doesn't need to top it?

  • This song, right from the moment he starts singing, gives me goosebumps and shivers up my spine. Awesome song and one of Elton's very best.

  • why hasnt this got more comments!!!

  • Elton is and will always be my favorite artist!

  • The original and still the best!

  • @mrtelevision all remember the price marylyn paid, as well as any who have...memorialized here...

  • @mrtelevision totally agree

if its not broke don't fix it.

  • @mrtelevision : Yes, the best version although I'm ok with his choice of creating an updated version for Lady Diana.

  • @auggiedoggy If anyone deserved this it was Princess Di. Agreed on best version too.

  • @mrtelevision The only version I appreciate !!!

  • @mrtelevision Yes, the original version of this song has always been the best. It's a beautiful song, one of Elton John's best.
