hey man im tryin to make a decision, im gunna make a ten gallon setup kinda like you have and i cant decide witch of these 3 t's i want to but in there : nhandu chromatus, Nhandu coloratovillosus or a Lasiodora parahybana there all 5 inch + what would you suggest. and i think im gunna ut some live plants in there so its gunna be a higher humidity
@rickjamison24 - For me, I would put the lasiodora parahybana...since that will be the largest of the three. And in my opinion...with an aquarium that size...it deserves the perfect display spider..."TheBrazilan Salmon Pink Bird Eater." :*) I have my L. parahybana in the 10 gallon from this video :*)
@rickjamison24 - Awesome..! I'm glad you found the video useful :*) plus, I think that's one of the things that makes this hobby fun..is the cage making process..good stuff my friend :*) :*) :*)
@TheTarantulasWeb I've learned a lot from part 1 to part 3 of your custom made acrylic tarantula cage cover there rick :*D As more and more different species of Ts, that just keeps on coming in my collection, i also find it very exiting to work on a tarantula cage projects similar to yours :*D All i need is to purchase a couple of useful tools. Very well organized, and Great Job Rick!! :D
@StatutoryGraped - No they didn't carry the (vents) there. - I picked up the vents at "McLendon's hardware" store, here in Washington state. The hinges I picked up at FredMeyer's ...and finally, I did pick up the acrylic Plexiglas at Lowe's hardware store :*)
@StatutoryGraped - Oh hey! you live in Washington..! :*D yea I picked up these at the Kent location, off 104th ave SE and 240th ave SE they sell a four pack for $8.00 and they have lots of different sizes - just go to the roofing section - they have them there :*)
Awesome, I'm in the process of making some new enclosures, like 5 10 gal vertical setups XD. The vents will be WAY easier than drilling butt-loads of holes lol.
Did you get your Haplopelma vonwirthi and Heterometrus spinifer from a local pet store?
@StatutoryGraped - Yea, I picked up both the H. vonwirthi and the H. spinifer at a place called "MIdway tropical fish and pets" off pac highway. I love to go to Bridges pets store- they are awesome ..! have a good selection of T's and reptiles there.
@TheTarantulasWeb LOL That's where I thought you got them from. I got a Haplopelma vonwirthi with a sac from there, as well as some other T's saw the moma H. spinifer that had those babies too XD...Never been to Bridges pet store, if they have T's I'll have to check em out :D
@TheTarantulasWeb haha I'm glad you think I can do that - I think I might see if home depot can cut the lines and the vent holes for me - I have terrible luck with straight lines and I do not own a hole saw haha. I will see what I can do about the drill holes maybe - that's scary enough on its own if you've seen my questionable drill work!
Very nice tutorial, the lid looks great. You L. parahybana is looking good too. Another 6 months it will double. I have 3 that all grew 5" in 1 year. Big eaters, cool species.
@moose9900 - Thank you Greg, :*D I had lots of fun making this cage cover as well as the video :*) My L. parahybana deserves the best, because it has been nothing but an awesome and very prized tarantula in my collection. :*D
Great video man nice LP I think my female LP is either a little bigger or maybe smaller than yours but am pretty sure mine is in pre-molt so after it molts I am totally going to move it into a bigger enclosure with a bigger log hide cause the one she has now she can barley fit into it but she stopped using it months ago after she covered it with dirt. well anyway loved the video man can't wait for you next one.
@mattmoksnes - Thanks my friend :*D - I am already collecting dividends on this cage set up - My Lasiodora parahybana is already proving to be an awesome display spider...! ..sprawled out on top of the hide log like the king of the jungle! absolutely beautiful man:*D I recorded some video today of it when I got home from work.
@projecht65@projecht65 - Thanks :*D... And this is true, but this is a fairly active species (earth mover) and I am looking to study this specimen as well as for video documentation - so I needed a "clear open cage" such as this 10 gallon could provide me, for viewing. A small plastic critter keeper of other type enclosure just couldn't provide me with what I needed. :*)
okay awsome thanks for the advice man
