The healthcare system has been steadily failing for years due to inadequate reimbursement and a huge under/un insured population. The credit card debt is only beginning to manifest as CC companies change terms and raise interest rates. The govt has just permitted companies to cut retirement and health benefits in order to be profitable. Unions are under threat. Our jobs are being outsourced to foreign labor.
Well then I guess if you're going to want to survive, you're going to have to be a little more discreet. Right now I hunt, fish, and grow my own food as a hobby. I guess after they make private gardens illegal, my garden I use to grow bell peppers, carrots, and tomatoes will be treated with the same government scrutiny as a marijuana plantation. I can't imagine that 200 years ago, the founding fathers could ever believe that we would be having this discussion.

It's like a dream come true because they have the skills and education to ride out the downturn.
I think there is plenty of food around. The gov't pays farmers not to produce food, to keep prices high. If they didn't do that, we would have plenty of food in the USA. Also, Mexico can produce a lot of food too but it doesn't do so because of competition with subsidized US farmers.
We live on credit and equity and beyond our means, not only that we cannot produce our own goods. If this economy crashes and the dollar falls then how are people going to pay for necessities, wake up AMERICA!!!

some of this makes sense, but I believe people are actively looking for positive values, seeking to 'create' value, more now than during the Bush administration.
I have personally noticed a clear improvement in the attitudes of the people in my environment, and I live in Detroit!! People now believe they can make a difference. (I also limit how much I watch the news or these kinds of videos)

Many of the layoffs have enabled companies to become more lean and efficient. If your job manages to survive the cuts you will be in great shape going forward since the economy will have culled its excesses. The healthcare system has been steadily failing for years due to inadequate reimbursement and a huge under/un insured population. The credit card debt is only beginning to manifest as CC companies change terms and raise interest rates. The govt has just permitted companies to cut retirement and health benefits in order to be profitable. Unions are under threat. Our jobs are being outsourced to foreign labor.
The collapse is yet to be seen.

Well then I guess if you're going to want to survive, you're going to have to be a little more discreet. Right now I hunt, fish, and grow my own food as a hobby. I guess after they make private gardens illegal, my garden I use to grow bell peppers, carrots, and tomatoes will be treated with the same government scrutiny as a marijuana plantation. I'm 19 and got Asperger's. I'm still dependent on my parents and while they are in good standing (hell, they earn $3 million/year.), they think most of this is extremist. If this shit really goes down, I don't have the time or resources to get food, water, and guns.

My biggest fear is that there will be a class warfare against the baby-boomers, because they represent such a large block draining the social security system that will go broke thanks to the coming depression, loss of 401k's etc. The younger generations don't care because they currently don't own as many homes and are actually benefiting from the economic meltdown, thanks to the cheaper home prices. It's like a dream come true because they have the skills and education to ride out the downturn.

I think there is plenty of food around. The gov't pays farmers not to produce food, to keep prices high. If they didn't do that, we would have plenty of food in the USA. Also, Mexico can produce a lot of food too but it doesn't do so because of competition with subsidized US farmers.
