Great Job...I was on stage in the 70's...at USC...(Carolina)...with a lot of "the" acts ...YES... a couple of times (Concert Committee Techie guy)....Very very nice...indeed!
Took me "back in the day".......Nice posting...A Sentimental Journey...Thanks.
Chris Squire used some kind of pinch harmonic as his bass playing technique and he also played with two amps; one through a normal bass amp and the other one was a guitar amp that gave him his amazing sound.
this was very good. I am a keyboard player and I play alot of Rick's stuff. One question, at the 7:05 mark, there is a recurring bass note that I believe was played on a set of bass pedals. can anyone verify? thx
@ramzahnY Well thanks !! I started with a pick as I was learning to play .. Then graduated to fingers later on.. both techniques have there place in bass playing for sure!!! Chris
@acifonelli Neck p/u into a 60's wollensack tube tape recorder into mesa boogie cab. Mic'd with a condenser into PT plug in add compression. Bridge P/u into 70's mxr blue EQ into Transmorgrfier compression pedal into a fender tweed pro Junior with alcino (blue) 10" speaker distort those tubes a bit only when you dig in make it bright. Mic'd with A tube condenser. Sounds cool in the room live.. Low action and straight neck so you can hear string buzz.. Thanks CT
yea, all your videos are really good ~ I've enjoyed them all so much, I'm inspired to pick up bass! (really) And looking forward to a northern california tour of your band: keep us informed! :)
@Faz64 Us ricky players like the Jazz basses. I have an early Getty Lee Jazz and it plays sooo well...! Neck is perfect for me.. I want to install that neck on an old P.
@lescar88 THANKS LESCAR88!! Working on Yes "perpetual change" video. Started my video test runs today.. Gonna to need to work on this one.. ... ugh! Then Starship trooper...
Man, you and Motorpsycho are the only Rickenbacker players here in youtube who could achieve that typical growly-clanging Ric sound...I'm delighted, how could you get such sound? I have a white 1976 4001 and i couldn't get that sound yet. I would appreciate a lot if you explain me what gear and settings are you using!
@warmaster2006 I have been asked a few times about the Ricky sound. Bass needs to set up in this manner. New rotosounds, neck straight, lower action, Rear pickup, adjust hi enough so it growls when y dig into it. Guitar amp slightly clipping (playing hard) 12' speakers...or 15' (Never liked tens for top end. not open sounding enough.) top end + 2.5k ish .flat eq on bottom. MXR 10 band Blue EQ. Most important is your technique.. play it bright and clanky! CSquire used Marshalls then Sunn.
Ok, now that your warmed up what can you do? OUT OF SIGHT MAN!!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much for let us see this amazing tribute level bass playing.! I want to be YOU when I grou up!!!!. LOLhahahahahaah
Hello, I have the Ampeg SVT CL head that combines with the case Ampeg 4x10 HLF .. I'll be able 'to get your sound? Use a Rickenbacker 4001 1978 .. .. I play without a plectrum Hello and congratulations! Hello from italy.

I've known and loved this song for over 30 years, and you just pointed my interest to the bass line for the first time! I'm a melody player (guitar) and that explains why I hardly ever listen to Yes music with 'bass ears'. But the combination of hearing the notes and seeing you play them is absolutely revealing. What a fine, melodic, original bass player Chris is, and always has been throughout his Yes career. Keep up the pretty good bass work!

I'm impressed. This piece is no joke. It's hard.
Your plectrum technique is an inspiration to me. (mine was never that good)
