I played this game for long months and years as a boy. I never solved all of it, but I recall getting 2 of the 4 primary goals and being within sight of a third. Legacy of the Wizard was a puzzle-fest if ever there was one. My parents would be upset at the long hours of my video gaming but they never could grasp the rich logic complexities I silently dug through. I think LotW was one varible that made me an A math student.
@budweiser1965 It has a 32-character password system so you can continue where you left off at. That is what I hate about games with long passwords. I mean, I just want to play the game, not hack into a server.
The little displaced high pitched tone at 3:07 is part of the music track. When my brother and I played this in 1991 we thought it was an indicator tone that was telling us we were getting close to a crown.
@FlameAdder Yea..the instruction book gave a tip that you should make a map....and WE DID! We drew it out and taped it together from pages of my spiral notebook. Video games nowadays tell you where things are...spoils the fun.
I used to play this and listen to the music on my friend's big projection TV in between chocolate chip pancakes, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and hopping in the pool. God damn, life was excellent when I was 5.
@eightbitgnosis Ahhhh the memories! My friend got this for Xmas in 1990 and thought it was impossible, so he gave it to us to prove him wrong.. My brother and I beat in the time from mid August to mid September 1991.
@eightbitgnosis Yeah, gotta say that you won't get too far withouth a map of a sort, I tried to fiqure out everything I couldn't withouth any sort of map but finding a first dungeon boss was just too impossibble withouth.
I could never finish this game as a child and I only made it half way through as a teenager, as an adult I don't have the patience to try it without a walkthrough.
Using a walkthrough though, pretty much defeats the purpose of playing the game, so I won't be playing it again.
Very catchy music though , especially the second theme.
With an emulator, you have the option to save at any moment, the "Save State"...over the past few years I have used this feature to beat NES games I played as a kid and could never beat...like Blaster Master (such a hard game), and Legacy of the Wizard of course.
@Archedgar yes this game is demonicly hard, and out of pure luck, every time i try to put in a code where ive gotten decenlt far, it doesnt work either, so baically i have to beat it all in one sitting
I acquired 2(ish?) crowns and then my password stopped working. I was horrified and didn't try again until a few years later and then the same thing happened and I abandoned it for good.
It's a good game, I just don't have the patience for it anymore.
This game was damn near impossible, but it had an amazing atmosphere with the epic tunes and the huge colorful labyrinths. One of the first games I ever played and extremely nostalgic for me. One of these days I'll pop it back in and actually figure it out XD.
Just conformed Yuzo Koshiro made this I didn't know that either Wow! The music in this game is legendary another true master of VGM Talent. It all started with some Asian dude literary gave me this game cause because he couldn't beat it. Being the determined video game player I easily took the challenge 2 this game and failed miserably 4 the first time in my fourth grade year. I could never for get this Ost, its been with me since the early 90's
Took me forever to figure out what the name of this game was. I use to play it as a kid. But I didn't understand anything about it but liked the tunes and liked messing around in it.
OMG! I remember this game! Brings back so many NES memories. It's a shame i never got anywhere with this game. So hard. I had no idea there were block puzzles and you had to use certain characters first. Damn.
I hate this game and at the same time, I love it... I get so frustrated playing it... but still like to play this complicated, nearly impossible game. Much better now with emulators and state saves... makes it a lot less frustrating.
*cough*aroms*cough*romnation... ahhh, I think Im getting a cold.
yess thank you. I forgot the name of this game and did a mad search for it using wikipedia and youtube. Now that I've found it, I know what got me hooked to this game so long ago.. the music !
I remember playing this game back when it first came out and getting beyond frustrated with more than a few parts in it. :x Very awesome, underrated game.
Great soundtrack! The music feels like a mix between Mega Man and Castlevania.

Oh yeah, and there is this other game:
Its also on NES and you play a girl warrior and she has a pet dog?
And there is this other game where when you get killed you turn in to a zombie or something, and I think you play on an island
Sorry fo asking again, but I just LOVE nes games! > : ]
ILOVEANIMEBOYZ 2 years ago
" girl warrior and she has a pet dog?"
Sounds to me like Conquest of the Crystal Palace. The lead character wasn't a girl but looked like one and the dog's name was Zap.
Can't fault you for loving the NES : )

Broderbund games like this and The Guardian Legend were the best--very long and involving. The first song and Pochi's dungeon were my favorites.

Good thing you can get a NES to USB adapter and play it via ROM.
Its what I did after I couldn't find LOTW anymore in game stores.
