  • this show is great but not many people watch it omg

  • This scene is just great. So many things coming into play. Stringer has actually been outsmarted and comes running back to the enterprise that he looked down on for so long, and Avon bringing him back down to reality.

  • stringa jus sum pussy ass bitcch, wana see a real brudda watch my blog yo

  • Stringer was the smart one...

  • stringer came in like a BOSS

  • Stringer destroyed the barksdale empire

  • this my favourite scene from the wire

  • day two: the making of amber doll wtf lol

  • the reason why he got slim becuz he knew he couldnt get that nigga brother mouzone brother mouzone was the person who string needed

  • that akon set this scene right fuccing eloquence or aesthetic if i ever seen it david simon u are a motherfuccer boy

  • The dialog is great in this scene

  • this def wasn't episode eleven this is the last scene of this episode and string dies at the end of episode eleven

  • irony of locked up playing in the back. string's locked in the game and cannot get out.

  • I Think that's one of my fav. lines in the whole show. "You need a 'Day of the Jackel' type motherfucker to do some shit like that, not a 'rumble-tumble' nigga like Slim!" LOL

  • Haha Slim is so sick in this scene.

  • Stringer tried to pull away from Avon's ways of business. But in the end he needed the protection of Avon's street muscle. When he lost that protection he was dead.

  • What avon should have did was pulled stringer to the side and then said that shit bcuz string was the head just like avon and talking down on him in front of the lower people was not good.

  • @William82oct Um yeah, it's not like they are working in a corporate office. There is no need to be politically correct.

  • I've watched this scene so many times...love it!!!

  • favourite scene in the show real talk

  • "I gotta remind you who you work for?"

Then Avon come's in like I'M WHO HE WORKS FOR lol.

  • What I Tell You about Playing Them Fucking Away Game?!

    -Best Line

  • You need some Day of the Jackal type motherfucker basically to do some shit like that, not a rumble tumble nigga like Slim!

  • @darkknight07100 If he added ",basically," it would have destroyed the flow of delivery, heh.

  • @Numonkei except that's exactly what he says

  • It's funny how Stringer asks Charles if he has to remind him who he works for and then Avon then sarcastically calls Stringer boss.

  • shhhhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet, the clay davis!!

  • You got a fuckin beef with them, that shit is on YOU! Words more niggas need to learn to tell they homies.

  • @Traye76 how many niggas are even beefin wit fuckin state senators lol

  • this here some assassination shit!

  • The intensity of this scene melts the screen.

  • lmfao! this scene was actually really hilarious and important at the same time

  • string was that nigga. man string was too smart for his own good. he had wayyy too much ambition, didnt know how to call it a day.

  • @KingBlackCeaser He was street and business smart. Not crooked politician smart. Like Avon said he was playing too many road games. You are what you are, Stringer forgot that.

  • Avon 100% correct analysis. Always hurts when ur missing something that everybody else can see

  • I love how Avon just continually points out String's riding the line between the two worlds and his reluctance to go with either of them. So great.

  • "You need a day of the jackal type motherfucker for some shit like that, not a rumble tumble nigga like Slim" lol classic

  • I missed stringer and avon in the last two seasons

  • @17921newaccount i think its cos if they kept the same people as the main criminals it would get repetative. its a shame thow, stringer was the real mastermind.

  • "Who we hittin'?"

  • THE Clay Davis? Downtown Clay Davis?

  • avon and string were opposites in terms of their philosophies, and being unable to reconcile their differences lead to both of their downfalls. they were both wrong in their own ways, but stringer should have listened to avon when avon was in prison. he made all the wrong moves at the wrong times

  • avon's such a gangster.

  • The greatest show ever on television not only for the way it address the streets, but the working class, education and the media. Just goes to show that in this life most things aren't in black and white but a huge gray area.

  • "shit string murder ain't no thing. but this here is some assassination shit"

  • But LOL@ Avon wearing a fucking stocking cap haha.

  • i wonder what slim wuda said if avon didnt step in?

  • I think Stringer needed to be reminded of who Slim was working for not Slim. He was Avon's man to the end. I love the way they show how little respect Slim had for Stringer in this scene. From the guy at the door waiting for Slim to tell him to go instead of listening to Stringer, to Slim questioning everything Stringer said to him. The way he says,"What you need ?" has so little respect to it. Great show.

  • 'Who we hittin ?'

  • Stringer Bell reminds of Number Two from Austin Powers.

  • Stringer Bell reminds me of a lot of managers out there. They may be smart and they may be hard, but without some sort of ethics and integrity it means nothing. It's funny to call a drug dealer "ethical," but Avon was real in his dealings. For Stringer, trying to double-cross everyone and being impatient, like he was with his developments or with Clay Davis when he wanted to "go federal," it will get you killed. In this case literally.

  • Someone should've clipped Clay Davis. He was an annoying asshole

  • @Dogfacesoulja8582 billy murphy

  • @Dogfacesoulja8582 Sheeeit. It would have brought too much heat partner.

  • @deptford

Or than Avon just didn"t want to kill him. Criminals kill small time politicians like Clay Davis all the time.

  • how can people say stringer wasn't smart enough if it wasn't for him the barksdale orgnization would've been fell example remember season one he told avon to fall back on omar start a truce then when omar come out of hiding and get comfortable get him them but avon didn't listen then stinkum got dropped bey got hit and avon almost got offed so in my opinion stringer was the brain

  • slim is too gangster

  • PWND

  • not rumble tumble nigga like slim LMFAO

  • Lol, Day of the Jackal type nigger. Avon makes perfect sense though, stringer is a pussy.

  • Avon nailed it when he said to Stringer that he wasn't hard enough to be a gangster, and not smart enough to be a businessman. That pretty much summed up Stringer in one sentence.

  • @sahtciud Stringer was one of the smartest characters on the show and he was also one of the hardest. I think that statement was completely wrong.

  • Slim Charles too smart to go for that ....Avon and Slim Charles my two favorites

  • stringer all ways been a bitch

  • Anyone else notice that every single huslter on this show, @ some point, used the line "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?"

  • @mvembathegriot lol most 'gangsters' do. its the ego.

  • They saw your ghetto ass coming a mile away.

    Such a great line.

  • People get so tunnel visioned knocking Stringer. String wasn't much concerned with Avon fighting Marlo, UNTIL THE CO-OP THREATENED TO CUT OFF THE RE-UP. The co-op wanted the Marlo war over with, and Stringer was the only man in position to make it happen. Earlier in the season? Stringer was content to let them go.

The big picture is, even if Avon got Marlo? They'd have no product to put on the street after they won. That was Stringer's dilemma, and he told Avon that. Avon knew it in the end.

  • who we hittin?

  • In the end, Slim was the last one standing. He laid back in the cut and stepped up when the time was right.

  • street niggas are street niggas. either you cross all the way over or not at all. you cant walk the fence of being legit and dirty for long and that shit caught up with Stringer.

  • @jiac1125 yep thats why stinger ended up getting it. He had one foot in and one foot out. You either have to be all the way in (avon) or all the way out (poot)

  • he was right about those away games, string thought he was smart unfortunately.

  • They saw yo ghetto ass coming miles away nigga!

  • btw here in serbia a drug organization from my hood assassinated the prime minister... and like avon said. they got got... it was just a matter of days before the whole country, police and everybody destroyed their whole trafficking network. never touch the downtown assholes, i guess that's a rule for drug lords and this is just another proof.

  • stolen registration, cops patrollin...

  • "What I tell you about playing them f'kin away games". Great term for what he did.

  • one of the best HBO series of all time

  • Anybody know the song on the background?

  • @FrozeBin Locked Up by Akon

  • @zoso7889 cool thanks

  • Avon's in a way the smarter one. He knows that he can be king of the illegal economy (black market), but that outside that, it's too risky. Stringer dreamed too big. Stringer would have done well in Mexico, but not the US.

  • Slim was a bitch in my opinion...riding 4 Barksdale and Bell as a soldier and as soon as niggaz get locked up he traits and sucks Joes dick and acts like he doesn't even know who the real kings were. Bodie was a real motherfucker cuz he showed discontent to marlo& his crew, he was forced to sell Marlo's weak ass shit when he had no other option and even then said 2 Slim Charles that 'if this were the old days'..bodie was loyal and had heart, slim charles jus a nigga doing his job!! fuck Charles

  • @Skywalker2332 nah man, both bodie and slim worked for marlo, but slim realized it was no other option, earlier than bodie did. and when marlo asks slim to take over hungrymans share, he said "i aint cut out to be no CEO", in respect. but fake cheese who sold out his uncle said yes. but yeah, bodie is the realest in all of the series.

  • "f@~#?]{ away games"?

  • @Skywalker2332 Slim was a professional soldier, he went where the money was.

  • @Skywalker2332 And Bodie got killed.

Did that make him into a better man? no,it didn't,nobody even remembered him anymore so there was no sentimental value for his stupid way of sticking up for himself.

Slim was a symbol of honor and dignity, something that never really exists on the streets in general but there still are some, also he was one of the few people who was actually smart enough to not get killed or locked up and in the ending montage you see him with the greeks. How was he a bitch?

  • slim is impatient with him here

  • that stringer is so sexy!!!!!

  • slim charles is so cool

  • You know u fukin up when avon barksdale is the voice of reason

  • @Mattraction513

    You have a point lol

  • @Mattraction513 Well, Avon has always been more street smart than Stringer.

  • @Mattraction513 lmao!

  • @Mattraction513 hahaha damn man i cant put it together myself

  • You know u fukin up when avon barksdale is the voice of reason

  • Hey that was some grenades that slim had in the table? Damnn, slim was the best hitman in the Wire

  • @Moution23 Its amazing that two people can see the same thing but have different perceptions of it....or pay attention to different details of the same thing...

    I never noticed em...LOL

  • 1:50 Haha haha

  • Very much in tune with the theme of the show: you cannot the escape the rules of whatever institution you're in. Stringer couldn't play by the rules of the business world. Most interesting subplot in season 3 if you ask me.

  • @maddingo12 lool, he woulda said that, soo true. And i would be dyin, whenever he says Sheeeeeiiit, it's the comedic relief in the drama.lol

  • He was basically on some Machiavelli ''Prince'' type shit

  • Stringer did have heart, but he also had brains which is what he was using when it came to Marlo during thetime he was trying to go legit... If he's gnna drop a body, it isn't gonna so blatant as to tell people who did it and how it happened, jut ask Dee

  • "what i tell you about playing them away games they seen your ghetto ass miles away nigga" brought to you by clay davis rain maker/ slick tongue

  • "Murder aint no thing, but this here's some assassination shit"

  • If anything, Stringer was the brains in the game. Violence, street rep and wars get you dead, locked up and broke. He was there to make money and use dirty money to get him out of the game. Stringer was smart enough to realize that you can't win the game. Guys like Avon, they are too proud and stupid to see that.

  • @maddingo12 He was smart in that sense, but he wasn't smart in the sense of knowing HOW to get out of the game. The ironic thing at the end of the show was Marlo had all the opportunies that Stringer always wanted, and he didn't want them.

  • It's not that Marlo didn't want them; it's that he did not understand them. Marlo was pure street: his reputation and power were what mattered to him. Marlo had a fish bowl world and could not understand the big picture: the big picture is that a life of crime only pays in the short term. Most gangsters end up dead or spend their lives in jail. Stringer realized this and used dirty money to get legitimate (buying property etc)...I think Stringer's goal was always to one day get out the game.

  • @maddingo12 Yea but see the problem with that tho was that Stringer made the mistake of thinking he could treat the streets like the business world. That was also Prop Joe's problem. You know the saying "there's no honor amongst theives"? In the end they forgot that. Also, remember Marlo's conversation with Vincent? He told Marlo that the man with the crown usually ended up dead or in jail and Marlo replied "yea but the point is that he wore the crown". To him that meant more than death.

  • "What'd I tell you about playin' them fuckin' away games?" - - Classic... And oh, so true... String needed to stay in his lane... He started doing too much and got caught up in his own web...

  • @JHalston23 string ran out of time

  • "Ayo I think Slim going to have to sit this one out boss"

  • Probably ONE of my favorite scenes in the Wire series. " You need a Day of the jackel type motherfucker to basically do some shit like that, not a ruff and tumble nigger like Slim".

The dialogue was pure genius and the whole scene tells so many stories...Stringer losing his control and power, Avon chillin in the cut showing how's the real brains behind the business, Slim being the go to guy to handle major business.

  • @jus1brotha I watched Day of the Jackal because of that scene. Good movie.

  • stringer is a bitch... point blank..

  • 2) The way stringer didnt say anything after avon shouted at him was important, he could have used words and cursed but the statement 'actions speak louder than words' is seen here because he knew he got screwed by Clay and his homies didnt have his back anymore, deep down inside stringer knew that it was nearly the end for him and didnt wanna go down alone so he dragged the whole organisation with him.

Strong and vital scene in the wire...Epic

  • @Secret911 i dont think stringer meant to bring down the organization, he was just doing what was right for business like he told bunny, avon is his brother and this is "just business" its also a parallel to avon and stinger reminiscing on the roof when avon told stringer dont take work so serious its "just business" after he already told brother mouzone where stringer was gonna be at.

  • @Secret911

well its pretty fuckin unreasonable for stringer to even ask for a hit on Clay.......he was out of line and he knew that......he didnt wanna drag the organization down, quite the opposite actually, he thought Avon was gonna drag the organization down with his "shoot em up" shit, tryna take his corners and what not......so he snitched on Avon just enough so that he would only get a few years, enough time for Stringer to turn the organization into a legit business the way he wants it

  • Strong Scene...more relevant than the one where avon finds out about d'angelo death.

    2 important points

    1) At 0:18 he tells the guy to get outta here, and he doesnt move until slim charles gives him the nod to go, this was subtle but interesting because this illustrated that stringer was losing his respect inside the organisation which is the first step of any persons demise.

  • @Secret911 wow! good observation. you are right about that.

  • @daveibukun

    Thanks G

  • Ahhhaaaaaaaaa I love slim man, he's funny!

  • "You need a Day of the Jackal type nigga to take care of that"...I netflix that movie because of that quote and I'm glad I did.

  • One of the best scenes from the best series ever. Powerful & correct....Avon called that shit loooong before it happened. Sheeeeeeeit!!

  • "Murder ain't no thing" - Slim Charles

  • Slim was the only piece of clever muscle in this show, played everything correct.

  • @matthewj84 Cuddy seemed to be smart also before he left the game.

  • "Rumble tumble nigga like Slim" .....LOL

  • "Naw you business man you don't wanna get all gangsta wild with it and shit right? What I tell you about playing away games." One of the best quotes of the series from Avon. Stringer was playing a game in an arena he had no business trying to play, and got hosed because he didn't know the arena. Great sports analogy by the writers. This scene is money.

  • murder aint no thing ! Slim Charles is the best character

  • nah man thats some assination shit loooooool

  • This scene showed you that Stringer wasnt built for this game. Avon needed String for the war wit Marlo and Stringer mind was else where. He was scared of the shit goin on between Avon & Marlo. Notice everytime when shit hits the fan thru the series Stringer is the 1st one to talk that peace shit lol U in the drug business U idiot aint no PEACE lol

  • the music in this series is the shit ... takes you right back

  • LOL I just noticed the song playing in the background is the song in the "Dumbest criminal" video.

  • Ten serial jest genialny, obejrzałem 5 sezonów - rewelacja. Pozdrowienia z Polski. ;)

  • did yall see slim shaking his head at the end lol

  • "Some Day of the Jackal motherfucker." I'm surprised Avon saw that film. He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to watch political thrillers.

  • @323guiltyspark Your comment reminds me of the scene where Mcnulty & the Bunk went to Stringer's apartment after String was killed, & Mcnulty was shocked at the lavishness of String's place,& the books he had on his bookshelf. You shouldn't judge a book by its cover, partner.

  • i love the way slim talks and all his hand movements. such a g

  • i aint seen this in a while, those grenades on the table infront of slim?

  • I love how the camera shows avon creep up on the situation at hand

  • Slim" "what you need?"

    epic

  • i felt bad for Stringer. i think he realized then and there that no matter what, he would always be a gangster, no matter how hard he tried to be legitimate. almost like Gatsby...

  • @malkani17 Gatsby?

  • Avon let that m.....f...... Know who was boss!!! Stringer is just like these assholes that get a little authority and it goes to their head. Slim Charles' behavior tells you who was running shit!!!!

  • stringer was such a fuckin girl scout. why are you cryin to slim about killin clay davis but tellin your people to fall back on marlo who is the REAL fuckin emeny? makes no fuckin sense. clay played his stupid ass now he wants to take action cuz his feelings are hurt. i swear if stringer wasn't such a diva marlo would have been history.

  • @sn83 Stringer was all about his real estate, he wanted to be legit. He didn't care about marlo and his drug corners. He didnt want to be part of some stupid drug war over some bullshit... But when he realized that Clay Davis fucked him on this real estate thing, he felt that someone just throw him back to the shit he just managed to escape from. He realised there's no such thing as "legit". There's always some Clay Davis to fuck you.

In this scene he returned to his "gangsta mentality".

  • @dawdus that makes some sense but if you tryna go legit why are puttin hits out? you mad cuz clay took your money but marlo is the one makin you look like a punk. stringer was just weird.

  • well as I said, he wanted to be legit till this moment. In this scene you see him nervous, hopeless and out of his mind... Not only because someone took his money... but because he realised there's no place for him in this game. He can't go legit, he isn't a gangster either. Next time you see Stringer was him calling police and meeting Colvin on the cementery. So you're right... at this time he is weird... killin wasnt his style but plannin a hit on a states senator was just utterly stupid...

  • @dawdus yea cuz stringer was utterly stupid. you cannot mix the business world with crime life.

  • @sn83

If you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Stringer being a girl scout was crucial to the progression of the story. The fact that you noticed that shows the genius in the writing of The Wire. Best Show Ever.

  • @sn83 marlo the real enemy? are you serious? the real enemies are the people like clay davis, keeping these guys who are trying to get out of the ghetto, back in the ghetto. stringer, avon, marlo...all in the same game. they're warring and factionalised, therefore weak. stringer even mentions this when discussing a co-op with marlo.

  • @sn83 but remember stringer wasnt really focus on that gangster shit season 3 lol, only thing he cared about was making it as a buisness man

  • @sn83 Yeah. He's my favorite character on the wire but he was too emotional. When he wasnt emotional he was the smartest and kinda played the game like the italians.

  • @Greeneyez2475 like italians lol. Good point i never looked at it like that.

  • @Greeneyez2475 Yeah because being a drug dealer is such a great life.

  • @whateverman181 Yeah thats exactly what I was saying. Idiot.

  • @sn83 yeah i agree. I believe he acted this way because his main focus was growing the drug trade as a traditional business invested in assets. All in all Stringer was always about one thing. Money. When Avon was gone, Stringer wanted to grow his wealth and keep the peace. That is because the beef with the drug trade (marlo) did not add any money in his pockets, just losses. However when Clay Davis takes the one thing he cares about...money...he falls back on his thug roots. Best show ever.

  • @chimera52666 well said, stringers tru colors show when he doesn't get his way.

  • @sn83 this was the point. Stringer tried to become civilized, and his resistance to going at Marlo was a manifestation of that. However, when Clay Davis played him, he reverted back to what he was...a common, run of the mill, thug. I LOVE how Avon completely Pwns Stringer's ass & brings him back to reality.

Stringer was intelligent, but Avon was WSE...

  • @mvembathegriot tru date....when things didn't go his way his tru colors showed

  • i didnt even know what day of the jackal was until i first saw this. LOL fuckin hilarious comparison.

slim is gold in this scene too

  • @qwaycee you never saw that shitty movie with bruce willis and richard gere called the jackal? your a lucky man. ironically it had bunny colvin in it too.....lol.

  • @slimithy12 "The Day of the Jackal" was made years before the Bruce Willis version. Having said that, this is just one of the hundreds of epic scenes in the series. At this point, Stringer was a man without a country as Avon told him. Really ignorant on his part and shows the inconsistent thinking that goes on with criminals. How the fuc you think you can shoot a state senator, and that crime won't be solved quickly. Even Avon new that, and Avon was just a gangster, I suppose. Great writing.

  • @wallyworld776 yeah i know and there is also a great documentry too. i only mentioned the crappy version cos its more recent and people nowa days can hardly remember what happened last year so i thought it was unlikly they would remember a 70's movie.

  • @wallyworld776 in reality, avon wus tha brain.

  • Playing away games...nice line...real talk. Avon is just a gangster, I suppose. But even the top gangster or kingpin has to has some sense of brains to make it that far in his arena. Stringer was a man without a country. Now he was flustered and ddin't know what to do.

  • damn these b sum powerful scenes

  • great lyrics " you need a day off the jackal nigga to do that "

  • if only they could have kept it together at the end...smh they would have been untouchable

  • This is where it became appearant to Stringer that Avon was right. He is a man without a country. He got played by Clay Davis in the business world, and the new people (too many new people arouond here if you ask me) in his own crew don't know or respect him (dude looked to Slim Charles to tell him to leave the room even after Stringer ordered it.).

  • @leftyfor3...u r soooo right...i liked the way u looked at that

  • Imagine if Clay Davis got gutt shot... he'd be like SHEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIT and then collapses on the ground. lol

  • @maddingo12 hahahha i just laughed out loud at this comment..good one man haha

  • @maddingo12 Lol..
