Very good. I was indeed hut chasing instead of focusing on more important things. Since I've started with a scout last time it wasn't that much of a problem though, as I got enough of the map unveiled anyway. I'm taking the building+researching priorities to heart as well. Will definitely try your way next time around.
I agree with most of your advice except for getting writing before pottery. I find it helpful to get pottery early. By doing this you can get to techs that allow wonders. by getting to these techs early, you can be pretty sure of getting at least one wonder. Also, by getting pottery and making cottages, you can save time on getting writing, Horseback Riding, and iron working.
I'm so confused... Haha, I'm guessing I just need to do trail and error to figure out what to do and when! I only got this game about 2 day's ago, since I saw civ5 was coming out!
@trakomako Is not that bad if you're playing at a low difficulty level, but next time try to research only the stuff you really need. For example, why researching Fishing and Sailing if you don't have any water nearby? That's just a waste of time (and research) that you could spend into more useful techs.
Then when time is right i take out the easiest targets to et more cities and then go go go go go... Undil the advance civilizations decleare war or i declare war to them ;) then it's a real hardcore killing, but cause i have more cities then them i win.
The start was interesting. I usually go for warriors/scauts undil the city is atleast 2 or more, then how it seems make a worker or a settler. Usually settler cause it will increase the chance to get the 2 city bigger. I haven't never calculated how is it better but i think this is better. My strategy includes fast writing and technology trading and being first in technologies trading them for diffrent things, this gives me a good chance to get first lot of wonders and so on.
Great video, the commentary is really helping me to get back into Civ IV AND to get more out of the game than I ever did since Civ IV was first released. Would love to see more from you on Civ IV, especially perhaps turns 101 to 1,000 :-)
I just started playing this game 2 days ago and have been looking for a video like this. I'm so bad, i still get confused about some things you say and do but hopefully i'll understand wit hsome more experience
i just try to get horses expanding my civilization.then i train some horse archers and attack and take few citys then i change my horse archers to cossacs or those other things.then i attack and take some civilizations out.and then i try to get latest weapons pefore others and attack
Dude really cool video! I found a lot of ways to make my games better now. After your videos I looked at my games and felt like a stupid little kid, even though I am kinda....idk if 13 is little but it probably is ok nice vid!!!!!!!
lol i just noticed he said 150 hammers. (its 150 production units) but anyway, with ias an awesome guide for a game. you should do a guide for different civs and different traits.
is there another stratregy? I prefer to buid a settler every other production, and try to expand early. I tried this strategy but just got surrounded, landlocked, and resourceless.
hey, i play the original version of the game - pre expansion, so to say, and i dont have those circles to see what/where the resources are. is there a way for me to fix this?
I'm enjoying watching this while drinking my coffee. It's interesting to see how other people play this game visually. I enjoy your videos, keep it up.
It's nearly impossible on emperor (you won't do it) to get enough power to deter a DoW early in the game...maybe very late when it's long since won already. The thread is titled "is there any logic to an AI DoW". Look for posts by danf5771...basically war plans are a function of diplomacy and proximity, with power being irrelevant unless it is an absolute deterrent (you'd need double the power of some AIs to use power to deter...!).
I have not patched to 3.19 yet, I'll do that for my next playthrough. Which thread were you talking about with DOW decisions? I meant less that they would DOW you because you lack a resource and more that they would DOW you because you have a low power level with bad units. That still might not be correct though, I'm not sure how it works.

AIs DON'T LOOK AT YOUR RESOURCES FOR DOW DECISIONS! There's a very in-depth thread on what it does look at on civfanatics...
The advice of writing vs pottery is good...writing can dig up research a LOT sooner with trade routes + specs ---> GPP.
If you are patched on 3.19 then those tiles should be flood plains, else it can happen due to "capitol beautification"
You have a lot of good :) resources nearby.
