As an eighties teen who spent a couple of decades in musical mourning thereafter, it's great to see such quirky pride ;-) in the musical sophistication that electronic music has always afforded and amazing just how much crap has been slung at the genre by the likes of upstart Indy rock fans.
Just starting to catch-up and look around at what's happening these days...any leads to 'must check-out' musicians not listed among my handful of vids favourite'd would be much appreciated...
@SoCalFlya LOL Yeah... well, I was kinda going for one of those classic "bad" 80s hairstyles, you know? Perhaps my stylist went a bit too far! Or not far enough! haha
lol, we have to do a synthpop version of Sweet Child o' mine in music tech. we also had to remake "Colourless Colour" by La Roux a few months back, so please never mention the name la roux again or I might have a mental breakdown
I am a composer of "classical" music, pseudo-producer of music, studied composition and piano at a conservatory, was a bachelor, and even impresses me my reaction, because instead of commenting on something truly constructive, I reiterate my comment that only I can say, WOW, definitely, I'm your fan.
Great song! Nice to see not everyone has converted to using only software synths. Nothing beats having a real piece of equipment in front of you in my opinion.
Why not throw in a harpsichord to compliment your music? These days, you can get a small, chinese made harpsichord relatively inexpensive but sorta like comparing a yukalaylee to 6 string stratocaster if you've ever heard the real thing, but it will work. It might be fun too. tinkalinkadinkydink :p
I deeply respect what you mean by ( "not your cup of tea")...since 1979 I play my flutes in foggy graveyards for the dead....(insane preppy people demanded I do it in the marching band!..wtf!.) flute off big tombstones is fantastic acoustics and ghosts need music too...
dear clark thanks I got your memo...but its my understanding that the hatsune miku software...the girlvoice is already inside the software!...you pretype in the words lyrics "mary had a little lamb..." and the puppet voice software girl sings the lyrics( your singing voice is excellent you could do a duet?) read up on it for fun anyway...i can't draft you.../ peterjay @ milwaukee
Thanks, man! What can I say... except, you are my inspiration! LOL Views of your video also continue to outnumber mine by a margin of nearly 2:1 ... so... I am humbled! No hard feelings!
Maybe he's doing a parody of the style at the time. Was this a reaction against the fury of punk a few years earlier? I still think a singer needs to tell a story. I was told by a classical singer that every phrase should go somewhere. What's the most important word? How will you colour the words? What dynamics will you use? How long are the silences between notes? What can you vary on each performance? You might know a song but there's all this to explore!
I would fully agree with your classical singer friend -- if I were singing classical music! But one of the keys to good technique is knowing when NOT to use it (assuming one even has it in the first place). In other words, even if I were a properly trained singer (which I am not), a refined vocal technique would be inappropriate for this genre, I feel. While I would be the first to admit there's a LOT of room for improvement regarding my singing, I would never want it to become TOO GOOD!
good comment, but at the same time I agree with maisonvague. We have 2010, and the golden age of synth pop has gone. So he is telling the same thing as rockers, punks and other addicts are saying: it's not dead!
By the way, I'm also a relict of New Wave and synth pop, so I can confirm it's not dead!
@Laura041974 In case of synthpop, synths are the ones telling the story with their sounds more than vocalist. Kraftwerk's "The Robot" is a good example: not virtuosist voices but a great synth sound :)
dear genius maison...we need you to create and post synthpop fan songs for project diva...hatsune miku..first sound of the future...fans create the songs with her software...you can have your revenge on the entire music world for she is our godzilla unleashed on their childrens psp!...(i can't do it with my $200 flutes)...you are the starting quarterback for our team!...get into the ballgame if you can please?...and drag others along...

This is a witty ditty. The backing is good and cleverly put together but you need to try using your voice in a more expressive way. Your breath is your envelope generator and your mouth and tongue your filter! Play them as you would a synth!
You never disappoint! I just knew whatever sound that appeared to be coming from the XP-60, wasn't in mine. I should have know it would be something else via midi. Excellent vintage synth orchestration, very well played, blowns Gary Numan out of the water. Thanks again for your talent and inspiration.
Thanks! Actually, I'm only using the XP-60 in this track to control an Arturia Minimoog V. Hope you're not disappointed! LOL The XP-60 will be making an appearance, however, on my upcoming album, using sounds from both the Vintage Synth and Dance Expansion boards.
Indeed it is. The keyboard solo about midway through the video is being played on the OB-Xa. The rack (from top to bottom): JP-8000, XP-60, OB-Xa, Jupiter-4
Thanks! Actually, the fx are accidental! I double tracked the lead vocals, panned them hard L and R, but when broadcast over YouTube in mono, it becomes a kinda weird chorus effect. Not at all what I planned. LOL Anyway, for the CD version, I'm ditching the double tracked vox altogether, and just going for a mono lead. Monophony rules!
