Inspiring!!!! One (minor) correction... this was not a speech....it was a sermon based on scripture from the book of Mark 10:43...MLK took the words of Jesus and made them real...he preached them and he lived them...
At least his death was not vain, for through his death he has become a great inspiration too us all. I only wish someone even greater than King will eventually come to this world. Well, someone probably already has, we just don't realize it yet.
Wow, Dr. King was a truly phenomenal speaker, lest we forget. MLK Day is a wonderful institution if for nothing else than getting someone like me to come upon these words and swell. This is a terrific message, worded passionately. God bless, Dr. King. Your memory lives on.
he definately had the qualities to become the greatest president we never had. I believe if he was still alive today he would have became President sometime within the 80's to present

These words are by far the most powerful words that Dr. King Jr. ever spoke. Timeless and essential message... Thank you so much for sharing this! Blessings.
this speech can be interpreted in many ways, Eastern philosophical thought ( buddhism) far before the story of jesus, put emphasis on serving others and being totally selfless. This helps those seeking enlightenment accept the present moment as the truth and realization that enlightenment isn't something we are seeking but something that is always there.

Yes, you can interpret it if you'd like, but Dr. King was referring to Jesus Christ in regards to this message. And Mohammed is not Jesus and vice versa, but Buddha can be love. Thanks for the comment.

You are correct in saying that it is about serving others, but in doing so, we do actually serve God. To love and care for others is also to love God. U.S. Attorney General Bobby Kennedy on Oct. 10, 1963. proved that King was under the direct orders of Soviet spies and financed by the Communist Party. The Kennedy tapings continued for 5 years and also developed shocking revelations regarding King's sexual practices. On Jan. 31, 1977 Coretta Scott King obtained a federal court order sealing for 50 years 845 pages of FBI records about her husband, because its release would destroy his reputation!
J. Edgar Hoover was the homosexual; the US government is the biggest Con of them all; they are the villians, and will be judged by the content of their character; name one president, other than JFK and Lincoln, that didn't have a secret Agenda. Come on. You'd argue the FBI over King. I have a file on the US that's over 10,000 pages long, and it'll never see the light of day.
the pages Hoover wanted the smudge and destroy the movement not exactly credible. Nice disinformation but if this was true why didn't Hoover slam it down... ask yourself that was he so empathetic with the negro of the day... jesh.
I am shocked that there are people like you that still believe in this propaganda. Dr. King wasn't perfect, but he lead courageously and for freedom and the rights of others.
LOL Truth sucks doesn't it? Boston University found MLK guilty of plagiarism and close associate/friend of MLK even said he was a womanizer. So why does MLK get away with plagiarism while someone else with a PhD would get their degree instantly revoked for a fraction of the amount of plagiarism that MLK was found guilty of? That is RACIST.
This is even more powerful because MLK Jr. lived according to this message. He didn't just say it and so deceive himself or anyone else--he served with everything he had.
wow...that really says something that today's culture goes completely against. Serve? Who does that these days? I don't think Dr. King was speaking of doing charity work in our spare time, but something much deeper. Something that flows out of one's heart- and they act on it even if it means not being the most popular, the most wealthy or the most influential. THAT'S servanthood
Honestly...how amazing is this? If only the world could open their eyes and hear what he has to say...or even...what we have to say? The servants...the true people...who serve...
WOW, UNBELIEVABLE!!! What a really great speech. A man a head of his time, a man who was in touch with what life is about, a man blessed. Thanks for this video. 5 stars
Dr. King began his "The Drum Major Instinct" from Mark 10:35. He used Jesus Christ as his role model and in turn tranformed a culture and a world thru his service. If we can only serve like Christ and His calling for our lives.
Too bad Martin Luther King was a population control supporter and very pro-abortion. If he had lived long enough he would have praised Roe vs. Wade and marched strongly with the pro-choice movement. He even said that the most sorrowful thing was for a child to be unwanted.
But Martin Luther King granddaughter is very strong in operation outcry; she had an abortion and is a very strong voice in trying to get roe v. wade overturned. The highest aborting in the US in ethic group is in the blacks, Margit Sanger set it up that way, and she was very races.
Are you talking about Alveda King? She is his niece. MLK jr. got the Margaret Sanger Award and was her choice for the pastor to lead the Negro Project.
Kentucky Attourney General Greg Stumbo & his Aryan Nation & KKK friends( ARE Official Capicity MURDERERS)& their US 6th district friends,( KENTUCKY IS NO LONGER SAFE WITH KILL FARMS,CIA & FBI-(GET PASSPORTS ASAP!) I AM A WITNESS ! THEIR IS NO JUSTICE IN KENTUCKY ! WASHINGTON DC. KNOWS & DONT CARE BECAUSE THEY ARE PART OF IT !
Glad you liked the vdeo. Dr. King is one of my heros and I wanted to pay tribute. I also enjoyed his message about serving. In order to improve humanity we must serve. Thanks again!
Thanks for the feedback. I happen to like it. I especially like the song from the film "Freedom Writers", they actually did a better job at this. You should check it out some time.
We must remember and pay tripute to this great man and leader. He transformed an entire nation and attidute towards the human race. We are all great when we serve. Blessings on MLK Day!

Thank you buckingbull is full of bull... show me
the pages Hoover wanted the smudge and destroy the movement not exactly credible.

"Until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream" - MLK.
MLK fought injustice against blacks but could not stop the injustice of the Rwanda Genocide where 56,000 blacks were killed each week.
MLK would have a led a protest in week one.
Instead, without MLK, with Clinton, over 800,000 blacks died needlessly.
No protests. No justice. Surprisingly, many blacks support Clinton's return to the White House.
As Marvin Gaye asked, "What's Going On?"

I would love to use this video as well--where can I download it from?

This is even more powerful because MLK Jr. lived according to this message. He didn't just say it and so deceive himself or anyone else--he served with everything he had.
NYServant 4 years ago
I agree! Hi is an inspiration and a modern day hero!

Hi Andy is this audio available for download yet?

Andy V, where can this be downloaded from?
mattnewby04 4 years ago
wow...that really says something that today's culture goes completely against. Serve? Who does that these days? I don't think Dr. King was speaking of doing charity work in our spare time, but something much deeper. Something that flows out of one's heart- and they act on it even if it means not being the most popular, the most wealthy or the most influential. THAT'S servanthood
mattnewby04 4 years ago
I agree!

This was something Jesus also said and did 2000 years ago.
kylehunt 4 years ago
kylehunt, I don't understand your reference to Jesus. Are you comparing King to Jesus?
jefgain 4 years ago
well someone said MLK was ahead of his time and I was just noting that he was in fact doing what Jesus did 2000 years ago.
kylehunt 4 years ago
Yes!! This was the premise of Dr. Kings Sermon!

Dr. King began his "The Drum Major Instinct" from Mark 10:35. He used Jesus Christ as his role model and in turn tranformed a culture and a world thru his service. If we can only serve like Christ and His calling for our lives.
andyvivanco 4 years ago
is that the title of this speech? I would like to hear the whole thing.
kriscokidd 4 years ago
Yes the title is The Drum Major Instinct. I will send you a link to the documented version. I have not found the entire recorded speech. Thanks!

Personally I don't see as much wisdom in that book as I see in "The Drum Major Instinct" but then again I could be wrong.

Too bad Martin Luther King was a population control supporter and very pro-abortion. If he had lived long enough he would have praised Roe vs. Wade and marched strongly with the pro-choice movement. He even said that the most sorrowful thing was for a child to be unwanted.
prolifediaries 4 years ago
But Martin Luther King granddaughter is very strong in operation outcry; she had an abortion and is a very strong voice in trying to get roe v. wade overturned. The highest aborting in the US in ethic group is in the blacks, Margit Sanger set it up that way, and she was very races.
roevswade 4 years ago
Are you talking about Alveda King? She is his niece. MLK jr. got the Margaret Sanger Award and was her choice for the pastor to lead the Negro Project.
prolifediaries 4 years ago
Let me find her on the web and I will send it to you I think your right on that one.
