it's so sad that people have gone through that. you expounded on the subject so well and even helped me to understand better what many overweight people have experienced in life. My sisters and I were "big kids" but not considered fat and therefore didn't experience the teasing. Now that we're adults, we know we need to lose weight for health reasons but don't feel the sting or stigma that many suffer because in our family and environment it's acceptable, though unhealthy. thank you
This often marks the behavior of both the victim & the abusers-victims learn to distrust and perpetrators develop & maintain lasting opinions about fat people i.e. they are weak emotionally & physically lazy have no character & deserve what ever they get Now as an adult I have only seen systemic sizism peripherally -from family and friends who speak candidly around me as the exception to their fat rules
I think sometimes the need for fat acceptance is a carryover from childhood -at least for those of us who have been fat since very early in our lives There is a certain amount of internal scarring that likely occurs from the social isolation that being young and fat can produce-children throw things, band together not to speak with you/sit with you, create new degrading ways of informing everyone else how fat you are-lift your shirt, write fat on you bags/lockers/desk, etc
oh wow your so great and other estrogen filled comments. fuck that, your unhealthy and killing yourself. just because more people are becoming obese doesnt mean thats what humans are supposed to look likethat.Obesity causes several cardiac conditions and cancers. stop trying to justify your unhealthy lifestyle and takes some reasponsibilty to live healthy.
You are freaking awesome! I applaud you for this video. You have a lot of confidence and thats what makes you amzing.
I think it all goes back to how others are raised and what morals are expected. it take a real mature person to look pass the outside of someone and treat them with respect.
oh wow, I feaking appreciate that compliment :) Yes it all goes back to maturity, morals and family values. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect. thank you for watching and complimenting. I hope you get to view more of my vid. be blessed
my sentiments exactly about killing myself, so I'm doing something about it. but believe me, there are many many thin and average sized people adding to the bankruptcy of the health care system, not to mention greedy CEO's and corrupt politicians. So although you're partly right about killing ourselves, don't blame the healthcare woes on us! but thanks for watching and commenting
oh yeah, by the way, I pay handsomely into the health care system and have only been in the hospital once (non fat related) and on absolutely 0 meds. it's not ALL of us
hmmm, I wonder where the other 75% goes? EXACTLY! thanks for proving my point. but you're preaching to the choir that I need to lose weight. that one's no ancient chinese secret
so are drug addicts, alcoholics, anorexics, and drunk drivers. people who are overweight arent the only ones who live an unhealthy lifestyle and in fact the average american lifestyle is not healthy whether youre overweight or not. and for the record i am not overweight, but it is wrong to put down people just because of the way they look.
thanks. i just cant stand to see people being put down, especially wen they already are going thru so much. i have people in my family who have struggled with weight issues so it affects me 2 that they have to deal with their own battle and then battle other ignorant people.
i'm not saying this out of self-pity, but as a fact that my brother, sister, mother, and most of all my father ridiculed me for being overweight as a kid. even as young as six years old. (yes, my father really did make fun of me when i was a child) they would openly criticize my weight at home and in front of neighbors and family friends. such as scolding me for having chubby fingers. nobody told them to stop, so in our community, it was considered okay to publically shame overweight people.
that is so sad and I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through that, and I'm sure many other kids have gone/are going through the same. that is cruel and it causes people to become insecure adults. I hope you're able to come out of that with healthy self esteem and your own acceptance. thanks for watching and commenting
as an adult, I'm definitely doing much better, thank you :). and their attitudes have improved over time, which is impressive given that most people don't change that much.
I'm not a BBW, I'm a big man, and the acceptance that I'm looking for is employment acceptance. I was working secruity at a nursing home and lost my job when they hired a new department director. The new director told me that I should start working out, that he wanted security guards who could run up to the 10th floor of the building and he wasn't confident that I could do so. I challenged him to a race up the steps, he never accepted. about a month after I was terminated.
wow, I sure understand where you're coming from there. If you can do the job, it shouldn't matter what size you are. I do know that the discrimination is out there, but my point was who cares if "they" accept me or not. However, I do understand what you mean about employment because to me, that's discrimination and not acceptance. sorry that happened to you. keep up the good fight. be blessed
I think you're absolutely right, if we don't accept and love ourselves first we can never expect to get the same from other people. The only limitations are the ones that we place on ourselves. Self esteem and pride are the most powerful things you can project to people. The people that are not acceptant to us are the ones that prey on weak people that already hate themselves. It's much easier for someone to ridicule you when you already feel the same way. I'm glad you've had good experiences :)
you are exactly right and make some excellent points. haters prey on people who already feel bad about themselves. what we think and say about ourselves gives others permission to say and treat us the same way. thanks for watching and responding.
this video is the reason I subscribed to your videos. I often ponder this question myself as to "who" is not accepting plus sized. I speak both for men and women plus size. Statistically most states have over 30% obese rate according to CDC and rapidly climbing everyday. It seems like the minority are the skinny and majority are fat. You would think minority experience more non-acceptance than majority fat. That's where I see your point about our own reflection of ourselves.
I think it depends a lot on where you live and who is around you. Many people are not concerned with weight at all. But I have had plenty of idiots screaming hateful things out of car windows when I take walks, nasty looks, etc. I've also been passed over for job promotions, despite being told I was "the best". My boss had monthly reports showing I was the most productive employee in the department. But his fat hating boss only promoted thin people. I am self employed now & they miss me. :)
I hear you. I couldn't see the non-acceptance, but many of you have opened my eyes by sharing your experiences. Like you said, it's much about who you surround yourself with and how you feel about yourself. That's said that your employers did you like that. thanks for sharing
Seeing an image so repeated in your life and world that excludes you can really make you feel not very accepted... along with using large size as an insult in itself... not being accepted doesn't mean that you don't like yourself or appreciate yourself but it doesn't foster self acceptance.
It's not about the size. I know a friend whose a supersize BBW too, and is well-liked by everyone for her jolly nature!
I think it's because 'fat' people tend to be self conscious, sensitive and low self esteemed. So they don't socialize too much. Not because people are not 'accepting' them.
no, you make plenty sense. that's why I ask if I and my sisters are the exception. If you watch my sisters dhille and luv2talkdeb, we are bbw's who have not experienced the non acceptance because we love ourselves and others and are very social. luv2talkdeb is supersized bbw and people (especially men) love her. how we think of and treat ourselves tells people how they should feel, think and treat us. If you project low self esteem and self loathing, that's how others treat you.
Yes, the world of entertainment - movies, TV, books etc - use weight as an excuse to filth of weight bigotry and slurs. Weight bigots, famous or not, are from the place where the sun does not shine.
my opinion is that as long as it does not affect one's lifestyle or health, a person should not care much about their weight only because others have a distorted image of what a woman should look like and how much she should weigh. "if you don't like it, don't look at it"
I'm pretty sure "they" is our media. Movies, television, fashion and other forms of entertainment almost always promote thinness. Those in the spotlight become heroes or idols of sorts to American youth, and when all of them are impossibly thin it creates a dissatisfaction with self amongst our youth. This creates two problems: a surge of eating disorders and an unspoken message that overweight people are unattractive. Both of these issues are very serious and very detrimental to the population.
Weight discrimination is a very real thing, and "projecting that you love yourself" doesn't always make it go away. And even if it did does that mean the people who don't have self confidence are deserving of the kind of treatment big people get on a daily basis? I'm honestly shocked that you haven't experienced weight bigotry, but like a couple of people pointed out here in the comments it might be a race thing as well. Bigger girls are a lot more accepted in the black community.
I can appreciate your comments, but I am also of the opinion that the way you see yourself and project to others, is the way others realize they can treat you. Also, in the black community, being thin is looked at more negatively than being big. Now, that's not always good either because of the health related problems in the Black community. If I have been discrimminated against I sure didn't know or realize it...
I never said nor infer (or at least that wasn't my intention) that weight discrimmination was not real. I was simply asking the question or pointing out the fact, "Who is the 'they' that are not accepting of us?" and "Why do we care to be accepted by the 'they'?" Those are real questions, not meant to infer that over- weight people don't deal with "real issues". thanks for watching/commenting. be blessed
Looking at someone who is tall or small isnt a problem it comes in when you start to attach stereotypes to those things.Fat people are seen as lazy they are often portrayed as ugly and there are fat slurs just like racial slurs. There is self-hatred but where do we learn it? The media DOES impact how people feel about various things including ourselves but to recognize it is to change it.
If you are fat and do not have a choice medical or thyroid condition then ok. Other then that all of the other discrimination is something that can not be controlled. skin color, ethnicity, religion, (to some exstint) disability exc exc.... These are thing that just simply are but size outside of medical is looked at as your fault.
I agree that its natural to stare at someone who is different whether they are disabled, tall, short or obese. The thing that usually strikes me is someone who is ridiculously thin. I've seen big people but never as big as some of the Americans on tv.
true, I've often said, where are these big people that I've seen on documentaries. but then I realize the don't or can't leave their homes. thanks for watching and commenting.
What I meant was, they feel inadequate because society puts pressure on them to be perfect. They may be happy with their size, their big nose, their height, etc. But they have been brain washed into thinking these things are negative.
Any person who doesnt fit into what is seen as "perfect" feels inadequate.
They might hav a big nose, too tall, too skinny, 5 pounds overweight, 500 pounds overweight, average weight but cause they're not skinny they still don't think they are "good" enough.
Instead of the government worrying about obesity issues, they should be looking at the bigger picture of why people don't feel they measure up to the standards that we are "meant" to be.
very good points. but I don't believe that any person that doesn't fit into what is seen as perfect feels inadequate. many people know they don't measure up to perfection but feel quite adequate. but I do get your point. thanks for watchig and commenting.
im 13 years old & im a size 14 i get made fun of all the time & latley iv been starvng myself tryin 2 loose weight but after watchin this video i feel dumb cuz i shoulnt try 2 change for other ppl i always liked my body alright but i dunno yeah & also if ppl wanna make fun of u then even if i lost weight they would fnd somthing else so when ppl blaim not living life cuz they think ppl r gunna call them fat thats dumb.
oh, sweetie I appreciate you watching and commenting. you are absolutely right, if it wasn't your weight, they'd find something else. I got picked on (just a lttle only because I was big and tall and the kids were scared to bully me, lol) about my big lips, big nose and size 13 feet. but I shook them haters off cuz I loved myself and was great at basketball. be blessed, keep watching and shake those haters off, then ignore them :-)
The medical community gives larger people hell for their size and will often deny them critical services and/or not provide the necessary care that they need. Larger people are also often the targets of negative media and or/propaganda ex. , the weight loss industry.
Im an "average sized(whatever that means, Im a 4-5)" size acceptance activist
who is not being accepted? Well, people who are not "thin" or "average" are often subject healthcare and employment discrimination as well as hurtful and dehumanizing harassment.
thanks for answering that. I guess I've just never seen it among my circle (and believe me all of us are over sized 14); but I do believe that it exist. thanks for further explaining it. also thanks for watching and commenting.
Good question. I suppose it's a matter of the politics being big. Some people are rude. For example, I was recently criticized for dancing in a video...so I made a vid with me dancing...IN A SWIMSUIT lol. That'll teach 'em :)
Very very good points you brought up about how we see ourselves beings reflected back to us.
I am wondering if size is more accepted in the black community? I haven't thought of it til now but I would be interested to know if maybe they are just more accepting of others compared to tight ass whites? Lol Maybe that is why you don't have acceptance issues? I dated a black guy for a while and he always thought I was too worried about what other people thought... He was right!
thanks for commenting. you pose a very good question/point. I can't speak for the white community, but bbws are definitely more accepted, and often even preferred, in the black community. not saying that's always a good thing(health wise), but most of us (black bbw's) sure could care less about what others think. even when we want to lose, we want to remaain bbw or thick. lol
That's it I'm moving! I have watched the movie Phatgirlz like a million times and ever since the first time I saw it I've been entertaining the idea of packing up an moving to Nigeria so I can find a Jimmy Jean~Louis of my own! LMAO
Lord have mercy, that man is FINE! but girl you ain't got to move, just be confident in all of your voluptuousness and the men will come. confidence, good hygiene and sense of humor are key. stay tuned for my vid on that...
1actingangel,thank you so much for responding and expressing yourself so nicely and sincerely. so I guess a few of us are looking for the same answer. hopefully we can keep the dialogue going. thanks again
I think it is all in the way you present yourself to the world. If you act apologetic to the world for your size.. then they will expect an apology. Being a BBW...I NEVER have a problem with acceptance. I know some people are not but I think its because of how they feel about themselves and it projects to others.
BBWs aren't accepted like gays aren't accepted like blacks aren't accepted like atheist aren't accepted catch my drift. We live in a narrow mined society , but we have to love and accept who we are regardless and be confident in who we are what ever we are , because if we don't then we have given in and we let society win.

Fat people are bankrupting the health care system.
Balldez 2 years ago
my sentiments exactly about killing myself, so I'm doing something about it. but believe me, there are many many thin and average sized people adding to the bankruptcy of the health care system, not to mention greedy CEO's and corrupt politicians. So although you're partly right about killing ourselves, don't blame the healthcare woes on us! but thanks for watching and commenting

oh yeah, by the way, I pay handsomely into the health care system and have only been in the hospital once (non fat related) and on absolutely 0 meds. it's not ALL of us

Actually 25% of health care goes for treating the co-morbidities of obesity.

daisygirrl1234 2 years ago
so are drug addicts, alcoholics, anorexics, and drunk drivers. people who are overweight arent the only ones who live an unhealthy lifestyle and in fact the average american lifestyle is not healthy whether youre overweight or not. and for the record i am not overweight, but it is wrong to put down people just because of the way they look.
Dawn0564 2 years ago
Amen!
sosoblessed1 2 years ago
thanks. i just cant stand to see people being put down, especially wen they already are going thru so much. i have people in my family who have struggled with weight issues so it affects me 2 that they have to deal with their own battle and then battle other ignorant people.
Dawn0564 2 years ago
exactly! thank you for being so caring and wise.
sosoblessed1 2 years ago
i'm not saying this out of self-pity, but as a fact that my brother, sister, mother, and most of all my father ridiculed me for being overweight as a kid. even as young as six years old. (yes, my father really did make fun of me when i was a child) they would openly criticize my weight at home and in front of neighbors and family friends. such as scolding me for having chubby fingers. nobody told them to stop, so in our community, it was considered okay to publically shame overweight people.
cthorste 2 years ago
that is so sad and I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through that, and I'm sure many other kids have gone/are going through the same. that is cruel and it causes people to become insecure adults. I hope you're able to come out of that with healthy self esteem and your own acceptance. thanks for watching and commenting

I challenged him to a race up the steps, he never accepted. about a month after I was terminated.
dsquaredproductions 2 years ago
wow, I sure understand where you're coming from there. If you can do the job, it shouldn't matter what size you are. I do know that the discrimination is out there, but my point was who cares if "they" accept me or not. However, I do understand what you mean about employment because to me, that's discrimination and not acceptance. sorry that happened to you. keep up the good fight. be blessed
sosoblessed1 2 years ago
Thank you and God bless you.

sosoblessed1 2 years ago
I think you're absolutely right, if we don't accept and love ourselves first we can never expect to get the same from other people. The only limitations are the ones that we place on ourselves. Self esteem and pride are the most powerful things you can project to people. The people that are not acceptant to us are the ones that prey on weak people that already hate themselves. It's much easier for someone to ridicule you when you already feel the same way. I'm glad you've had good experiences :)
falloutpunk 2 years ago
you are exactly right and make some excellent points. haters prey on people who already feel bad about themselves. what we think and say about ourselves gives others permission to say and treat us the same way. thanks for watching and responding.

I think "size acceptance" means acceptance of one's own size.
I applaud anybody who can accept their size, because I'm always told that I'm too thin, but I'm still extremely self conscious.

yep, so it's not so much about size, but if you're happy enough to accept yourself even if you want to make improvements

this video is the reason I subscribed to your videos. That's where I see your point about our own reflection of ourselves.
shopperoo99 3 years ago
good insight and you're right, we're the majority even though tv and media would make you think that we're not.

sosoblessed1 3 years ago
I think it depends a lot on where you live and who is around you. Many people are not concerned with weight at all. But I have had plenty of idiots screaming hateful things out of car windows when I take walks, nasty looks, etc. I've also been passed over for job promotions, despite being told I was "the best". My boss had monthly reports showing I was the most productive employee in the department. But his fat hating boss only promoted thin people. I am self employed now & they miss me. :)
antigone414 3 years ago 2
I hear you. I couldn't see the non-acceptance, but many of you have opened my eyes by sharing your experiences. Like you said, it's much about who you surround yourself with and how you feel about yourself. That's said that your employers did you like that. thanks for sharing
sosoblessed1 3 years ago
Seeing an image so repeated in your life and world that excludes you can really make you feel not very accepted... along with using large size as an insult in itself... not being accepted doesn't mean that you don't like yourself or appreciate yourself but it doesn't foster self acceptance.
vagabondesque 3 years ago
very good points. thanks for watching and commenting
sosoblessed1 3 years ago
It's not about the size. I know a friend whose a supersize BBW too, and is well-liked by everyone for her jolly nature!
I think it's because 'fat' people tend to be self conscious, sensitive and low self esteemed. So they don't socialize too much. Not because people are not 'accepting' them.
Ok maybe i don't make sense. haha
Silverlenses4 3 years ago
no, you make plenty sense. that's why I ask if I and my sisters are the exception. If you project low self esteem and self loathing, that's how others treat you.
sosoblessed1 3 years ago
Yes, the world of entertainment - movies, TV, books etc - use weight as an excuse to filth of weight bigotry and slurs. Weight bigots, famous or not, are from the place where the sun does not shine.
antipodkayne 3 years ago 2
I hear you. thanks for commenting.
sosoblessed1 3 years ago
my opinion is that as long as it does not affect one's lifestyle or health, a person should not care much about their weight only because others have a distorted image of what a woman should look like and how much she should weigh. "if you don't like it, don't look at it"
steluta 3 years ago
I like that outlook. thanks for commenting
sosoblessed1 3 years ago
I'm pretty sure "they" is our media. Movies, television, fashion and other forms of entertainment almost always promote thinness. Those in the spotlight become heroes or idols of sorts to American youth, and when all of them are impossibly thin it creates a dissatisfaction with self amongst our youth. This creates two problems: a surge of eating disorders and an unspoken message that overweight people are unattractive. Both of these issues are very serious and very detrimental to the population.
defiantapple 3 years ago 7
very well said and I appreciate your comments
sosoblessed1 3 years ago
Weight discrimination is a very real thing, and "projecting that you love yourself" doesn't always make it go away. And even if it did does that mean the people who don't have self confidence are deserving of the kind of treatment big people get on a daily basis? I'm honestly shocked that you haven't experienced weight bigotry, but like a couple of people pointed out here in the comments it might be a race thing as well. Bigger girls are a lot more accepted in the black community.
SuperSizedSexy 3 years ago
I can appreciate your comments, but I am also of the opinion that the way you see yourself and project to others, is the way others realize they can treat you. Also, in the black community, being thin is looked at more negatively than being big. Now, that's not always good either because of the health related problems in the Black community. If I have been discrimminated against I sure didn't know or realize it...
sosoblessed1 3 years ago
I never said nor infer (or at least that wasn't my intention) that weight discrimmination was not real. I was simply asking the question or pointing out the fact, "Who is the 'they' that are not accepting of us?" and "Why do we care to be accepted by the 'they'?" Those are real questions, not meant to infer that over- weight people don't deal with "real issues". thanks for watching/commenting. be blessed
sosoblessed1 3 years ago
Looking at someone who is tall or small isnt a problem it comes in when you start to attach stereotypes to those things.Fat people are seen as lazy they are often portrayed as ugly and there are fat slurs just like racial slurs. There is self-hatred but where do we learn it? The media DOES impact how people feel about various things including ourselves but to recognize it is to change it.

the fashion industry is against "plus sized" women, and basically "fat bashing" is the last socially acceptable form of discrimination. Its sad.

that is sad. thanks for watching and commenting
sosoblessed1 3 years ago
If you are fat and do not have a choice medical or thyroid condition then ok. Other then that all of the other discrimination is something that can not be controlled. skin color, ethnicity, religion, (to some exstint) disability exc exc.... These are thing that just simply are but size outside of medical is looked at as your fault.
arr0w420 3 years ago
I don't disagree.

sosoblessed1 3 years ago
I agree that its natural to stare at someone who is different whether they are disabled, tall, short or obese. The thing that usually strikes me is someone who is ridiculously thin. I've seen big people but never as big as some of the Americans on tv.

What I meant was, they feel inadequate because society puts pressure on them to be perfect. They may be happy with their size, their big nose, their height, etc. But they have been brain washed into thinking these things are negative.
orangebum123 3 years ago
you are so right. thanks for the clarification
sosoblessed1 3 years ago
Any person who doesnt fit into what is seen as "perfect" feels inadequate.
They might hav a big nose, too tall, too skinny, 5 pounds overweight, 500 pounds overweight, average weight but cause they're not skinny they still don't think they are "good" enough.
Instead of the government worrying about obesity issues, they should be looking at the bigger picture of why people don't feel they measure up to the standards that we are "meant" to be.
orangebum123 3 years ago
very good points. but I don't believe that any person that doesn't fit into what is seen as perfect feels inadequate. many people know they don't measure up to perfection but feel quite adequate. but I do get your point. thanks for watchig and commenting.

He was right!
msphatgrll 4 years ago 2
thanks for commenting. you pose a very good question/point. I can't speak for the white community, but bbws are definitely more accepted, and often even preferred, in the black community. not saying that's always a good thing(health wise), but most of us (black bbw's) sure could care less about what others think. even when we want to lose, we want to remaain bbw or thick. lol

I think it is all in the way you present yourself to the world. If you act apologetic to the world for your size.. then they will expect an apology.
