Dude It sounds wonderful. Very very nice. I just got a Schecter Five string the other day had a fender four but needed to go deeper for the heavier stuff. I can slap and pop alright but i cant get a clean sound.

@treyman3spunkjr ... active bass with steel strings will get you a good slap tone. Make sure the action is set properly, if the strings are too high it's not gonna sound clean

@jacobassattack , I had a tech put them for me . But, I could have done it myself to be honest. Remember that you need space to install an active preamp with the EMGs. Not sure you have enough space if you have a standard passive Mexican. Mine is American Deluxe (active) so it's got already preamp space.

I sold my EMGs on eBay... I didn't like the sound for finger-style, they are just great for slap , but not enough versatile to my taste. I have Seymour Duncans Antiquity II now. I love them... but they are 4 strings only

I am using an EMG preamp , a BQS system I think... I find the EMG treble too agressive , I don't whether it's from the preamp or the pickups... It's good with slap, but I'm missing the jazz bass mid growl ... So, I am thinking about changing... either Aguilar or Sadowsky preamp

I use the Bass POD Live XT for everything. I owned an EBS comp that was very good and a few stomp-boxes but I sold everything on EBay since I have the Bass POD.

Hi Mate! Well, I'm not that proficient yet. But the little slap I have is thanks to my Jazz Bass actually. I owned other basses before including a Music Man. And although they sounded great, they were not suited for my small hands. Once my guitar player brought a Jazz Bass to rehearsal. I had never touched one before. I tried and fell in love with the super slim neck. I just felt home instantly. I got one myself and from there my technique progressed a lot faster. I saw results within months.
