  • It looks more brutal, yet passionate now, can fit to any genre! Love this.

  • Nice job.... Glad you didn't go with the red pick ups lol. it would have clashed, hard.... I'm about to start on my first les paul build... I've built few rg's, strats, and jackson styles before... they were practice for my Les paul project... Gonna make it an arch top. still trying to decide if i want 5A flame, or quilt as the top wood. I'll probably go with flame & use quilt on the double cutaway LP i'm planning on doing. I'm gonna make it neck through too. I dont trust my own set necks lol

  • The zebra pickups look great. The red wouldn't have worked but the zebras look awesome. That guitar is better looking then 99% of what Gibson is putting out. Great job. Cheers

  • love the tiger stripe . just made a tiger stripe box to hold my airbrushes not to long ago . candy apple red finish . but i use automotive finishes . not spray can stuff . idk what you used on urs but i see some swirls still in the back of the guitar . looks cool though

  • Just beautiful. A kit presumably? Hard to tell but is the binding white or cream/ivory? I'm in the middle of a refinish (goldtop-ish). Has white binding but the plastics are cream; kind of a yellowed white sort of cream as opposed Gibson's carmel colored cream. I want to, perhaps, "relic" the white. Any thought on how to go about that?

  • Very Nice job .. well done

  • you can use wal mart .99/can clear coat & make it look excellent with that swirl remover, well done.

  • Shit, now insert your lastname on the headstock , instert JWH01 serial number since it's the first one, sell it and go rich by making your own guitar brand!

  • @Macsk8ing but get sued by gibson!

  • What did you use for the clear coat? What could I do to get a very high gloss finish like that?

  • Looked great in both ways. First one was more vintage looking

  • Wow great piece of work you have there!

In my opinion it would look really great with gold hardware. BTW hows it sound?

  • I was looking at the before pics and i was all like man thats a crappy job and then i saw the after and i was in awww great job dude that thing is beautiful

  • Wow that is so beautiful, how much would you sell that guitar for?

  • damn cant beleave that is all it takes to make it look like a pro job gj man

  • What's the song/artist? I like it.

  • nice guitar nice music!!!

  • That's really nice. I'm in the process of building my first ever guitar.. Chosen a LP. Admittedly it's all quite cheap so far but I'm hoping I can get a nice finish on it like this. Got to LOVE the tigerstripe! Though I'm having a slight bit of trouble getting the neck flush with the body.. Messed up somehow when I was cutting it all out. Anyone got any hints or tips that might help me solve this without completely destroying my hard work so far? :) Thanks

  • What a beautiful job.... it's so much work. Looks like I'll buying ready made.. I'll never be able to pull this off...

  • Gorgeous !! Stunning transformation.. How many have you finished or refinished

before this one.? That looks just like a Les Paul. Must have taken some nerve

to do that without prior experience. Does Stewmac have directions for projects like this.

Congratulations on a job well done. I'tll bet it is satisfying to make your

axe look just the way you want it. Better than going shopping to find just the right one.

    rockerfella

  • do you think its possible to put a quilted maple or flamed maple top on a guitar that doesnt have one??

  • How did you make or put on that binding?

  • what was the name of the stain and thiner you used?

  • Damn, that makes me want to start another project guitar. That is a beautiful guitar. Just needs covers on the pickups and some sort of logo or simple design on the headstock. Good job!

  • @PlatypusVomit Thanks!

  • @PlatypusVomit same hear :( but its awesome! does the kit come with instructions?

  • Great Job!

what did you use to clear coat?

  • @laservlx I used "Deft" brand laquer. Thank you for your comment.

  • how much would you charge to do this and add on a bigsby?

  • Sorry, I just don't have the time. Very flattering though.

    Thanks, J-

  • how much would you charge to do this?

  • Beautiful guitar...Great job

  • nice job

  • @plumbdaddy1 Thank you!

  • Gold pickups/hardware and plack plastic pieces look sooo nice on these dark red guitars, like the les paul supreme

  • Is this a DIY Kit Guitar?..where did you buy it?...

  • @juanpocopin ebay, byo guitar, guitar fetish.

  • do u need 2 wet sand it,and what didi u use 2 polish it?

  • @KEVQUATRO1 Wetsanding will definatly improve the quality of finish. I polished it with mcquires swirl remover. Watch my sand and polish video for more detailed ideas.

  • do u need 2 wet sand it

  • awesome guitar. even better than gibson

  • I have a custom-made single cutaway that's one solid chunk of mahogany from neck to body. The fretwork, electrics and hardware are first rate but the paint is so horrible even Earl Scheib says "crap". Refinishing it would add much value. I paid $50 for it but if I refinish it myself I won't want to sell it. Seeing these videos is inspiring. Excellent job. UFO kept me from muting the audio. Very nice, sir.

  • Thanks so much! I hope your project turns out great.

    J-

  • that is beautiful!! but what brand guitar was that? looked like a gibson

  • Thanks. No, it was a kit I refinished.

  • @OldPink173 Im pretty sure its this: amazon.com/Saga-LC-10-Style-Electric-Guitar/dp/B001AQ0GPM/ref=sr_1_1?s=gateway&ie=UTF8&qid=1285718397&sr=8-1

  • I used 800,1000,1500, & 2000 grt paper. Wet sanding is just that. Wet your sand paper and sand. It keeps the fine coarse grits from clogging.

  • incredible!

  • great job, that looks great!

  • Thanks so much. Very nice of you.

    J-

  • what type of paint did you use, spray paint?

  • I used a clear lacquer spray.

  • @jwhambone79 did you use a red stain? what would you have to do for a sunburst finish apply the dye then sand a few coats a few times of sanding what not then apply the secondary color over the base and spray with lacquer? jc i really want learn more on refinishing guitars.

  • Watch tigerstripe part one. I have seen people do the sunburst with a stain. I think that would work well.

  • hey guys i am working to get a free guitar and you can too! just takes a little bit of time! if you would like to know how plz send me a message on here and i can help out!

  • @elpollodiablo88 so how?

  • class lookin guitar!

  • good build. and i love your music choices :)

  • Thanks. We need not forget MS & UFO. I thought it would be good exposure to generations that may not have have heard...

  • U like ufo, dont u

  • The part near the cutaway looks damaged at 3:34. what happened?

  • I don't think so...hmmm

  • @gotcha51wtf its the light shining off of the gloss

  • Comment removed

  • Looks very good but I don't understand how you did the top. The top looks so..... awesome

  • Thanks. Watch part 1 to see the top done.

  • @jwhambone79 I've know seen them all a few times. Pherhaps i'm going to build my own SAGA LC-10 kit and i want to do the top the same way. I hope i can get transtint in my country

  • My god that is the best re-painting of a guitar i have ever seen!

  • I don't know about that but thank you very much!

  • What was the website u got it from ??

  • I think i got this on ebay.

  • dude where did you get this from?

  • You can get these kits from ebay, guitar fetish, byo guitar...

They are pretty common these days.

  • dude you got talent

  • Wow, thank you!

  • Great job!

  • Thank you!

  • Wow...Beautiful!!!

  • Thank you!

  • dude that turned out nice, you should have sealed the guitar with some sanding sealer before the dark lay in you can see where the stain bit in, never mind still looks awesome

  • was this a saga kit or a different kind of kit?

  • Hi, not a Saga. You can find them on ebay or Guitar Fetish

  • Where i buy it ?

  • You can find them on ebay or Guitar Fetish

  • This piece was a kit

  • Night and day difference. Great job. I've just started a 1977 Gibson L6-S. I messed the original finish up when I was about 21. Taking the time to do it right this time. Unfortunately, I don't have the nice formed maple like yours. Seems that taking the time to sand is the key of a nice finish. I think my Dad was telling me that as I was botching it up the first time ;)

  • Sometimes It's worth giving it a second try.

    Thanks and good luck!

  • it so pretty im jealous

  • GREAT JOB !!

  • Thank you very much! Very kind of you.

  • Beautiful job. Thats a tough act to follow.

  • If I can do it, anybody can!

    Thanks.

  • nice job!

  • SAGA KIT?

  • No. You can findthem at guitar fetish.

  • Beautiful job!!! great music, all around grade. A+++++++++

  • Thank you sir! Very kind of you.

  • cool

  • Thank you!

  • Dude, I just finished my guitar and bought GuitarHeads pickukps, too. I love them!

  • I really like those pickups. Your guitar looks great!

  • im assuming you like UFO hahah, good choice

  • Can't forget about Mr. Schenker. I love that live record. So much great guitar!

  • Where did you buy the kit from

  • You can find them on ebay & guitar fetish.

  • LOOKS LIKE THE DARKFIRE!!!! awesome...

  • Like the Darkfire! Thanks.

  • Nice work JW. UFO rocks!! I grew up on Michael Schenker licks. Thanks JW.

  • Thanks. I thought the music was great for the project. Expose some others to it that may not have heard it before.

  • how much did it cost in the end? and how long did it take?

  • The kitsare worth about $200. I upgraded the pups & tuners ($75). Finishing supplies were about $75...

Took about 3 weeks including time to let thelacquer cure enough to polish. It assembles in a few hours once the finish isready...

  • and then you put a clearcaot over the whole thing?

  • @sundogrunner1 Everything but the fingerboard.

  • Beautiful guitar! Do you put the binding on before you stain it and then mask it off? How is that done?

  • Thanks. The binding was on it already. I masked it off.

  • hey great video! someone else on youtube recommend i watch your vids to help with finishing tips because i'm considering getting myself a kit bass to build and try that out. any tips or anything i should be wary about?

  • Wow, thanks! Use good quality finishes. Spend a couple extra $ buying instrument lacquers from stewmac or reranch. They dry fast, dry hard, polish nice and breath. Take your time and do a nice job. Good luck!

  • what kit did u use?

  • that looks awesome lately ive been wanting to build a les paul and if i did it would either be based off of this guitar or one made from scratch,

if i did make one myself it would definitely have : Oxblood or Tigerstripe(like this 1) with an ebony fretboard, burstbuckers, and Gold hardware, some thing like that

  • How did you search for yours because I am having some difficulty finding them

  • GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!

  • Beautiful job jw!

It looks just like a Modern Eagle. What pickups did you put in?

I would love to hear it too if you have it still.

  • Thanks! I used guitarheads "hexbuckers"

  • were can i find pick ups that have all of the electronics with them????

  • very nice job there was a huge improvement im curious to see what gold covered pickups would look like with it

  • Thanks! Gold would look nice I think.

  • that is one nice les paul how much did the kit and all the electrics cost?

  • the mirror glaze makes it shine like that?

  • The mirror glaze (or any "polishing compound") takes out the dull finish from your wet sanding (which levels the surface) to bring back a shine.

  • Is this a kit??? If so where did you get it??

  • You can find kits like this on ebay. I have a body & neck project I'm willing to sell right now.

  • Wow, no comparing the before and after, it really was a diamond in the rough. I've been considering one of these LP kits and have a question. Is it a solid body or a chambered solid body? I have a idea about routing out some cavities but if they are chambered that could be kinda difficult. I'm going to say it again fantastic job there.

  • hey i made a guitar with this idea in mind, guitar was made from kit. check it out, u inspired the paint job fer sure

  • almost like my guitar i got black hardware on mine with quilt and Active emgs

  • Very nice!!!!

  • hey man great job! i got a les paul custom replica and i want to paint it black please tell me what to use, i want it to have a glossy finish. sorry for my broken english

  • Thank you! Lacquer shines like crazy! Theres a guy in England ( Manchester guitar) who sells guitar lacquers.

  • that is gibson les paul not saga lp kit...

  • does it sounds good?

  • Sounds awsome. Those guitarheads "hexbuckers" remind me alot of the dimarzio supers. Basswood is no slouch in reference to tonewoods.

  • That's good, I want to build my own guitar les paul and I'll put the same color red you have in your les paul guitar. how did u paint it?

  • watch the other vids

  • Nice that end result looks really professional.

Do you think that this would work on a guitar with a flame maple veneer over a solid maple top?.

    Thanks.

  • This was a veneer, should work great...where do you get one of those?

  • I got it from japan its a company thats owned by ESP. Im not 100% sure if it is veneer over maple top but it looks like that and I heard the same thing from some other people.

  • hey great guitar building vids and i wanna see you make a zakk wylde guitar from using a guitar kit if you do ill thank you really much

  • Maybe someday. Thanks

  • what guitar make was it originally ?

  • Was a kit, no brand name.

  • THrow some gold hardware on that guitar, ebony fretboard and golden burstbucker pros! BAM my dream guitar! AMazin job man!

  • I agree that would be nice. Thank you!

  • Ha I am interested But I went on ebay and only found the ones you can make bolt ons and I want to make a set neck one, lp thanks

  • Hi, i bought a SAGA kit Guitar (LP style) and i wanted to painted just like yours, however, when my luthier started to paint the guitar the black color turned gray, and the red turn pink, now that's olmost finished it looks kida pink, he says thats because the top is a thin piece of maple wood and it suck all the color. Can you give me any tips on how to paint the guitar like yours? Thanks in advance.

  • Mine soaked in some die too. I did apply a second coat of red to deepen it alittle...pink huh? Don't know about that.

  • i'm interested how much do you want for a body and a neck

  • wowowowowowowowowow

  • Thank you!

  • Which model is this? That finish was SICK! Red Les Pauls has always got my attention!

  • Just an LP standard style. Thank you for commenting. J-

  • are those guitarhead pickups anygood?

  • yes, hear a small piece played on "Recording With Kit Guitar"

    Fairly hot.

  • I have two questions:

    1) what wood stain did you use

    2) what clear did you use, and how did you avoid orange peeling effect?

  • I forgot the brand. It's a water sol. color die see part 1 & part 2. I used Deft lacquer, it's just good quality & then wet-sand & polish.

  • You should've done gold hardware! Haha.

  • Holy Crap, I am blinded away by its pure awesomeness!!

That is one freakin good lookin red.

  • I agree

  • Wow! Thanks alot! Very nice of you. J-

  • thats whicked sweet

  • Thanks!
