But - and here is the snag - it won't be heard before 2014 at the earliest, maybe even later. This will allow at least another 2000 whales to be slaughtered by these inhumane, greedy poachers. If our Govt wasn't so gutless they would serve an interim injunction on Japan - which Japan would probably ignore as it does every attempt to stop it.

@DTofMN READ and UNDERSTAND!! I did NOT say it was ok to slaughter whales anywhere. I said there is little SSCS can do to stop Japan hunting whales in their own waters, which is very unfortunate.
I care about the loss of whales everywhere. I really hope SSCS embarrasses Japan so thoroughly that they run for home, as they did last year.

You made no mention of Japanese waters and you made no mention of there being little the SSCS can do to stop Japan in the North Pacific. And the North Pacific where the hunt aren't Japanese waters.

@DTofMN and your facts are? What do Japanese fishermen do in Taiji and other towns every year? Yhey aren't just observing the dolphins are they? Why is the well-funded (with Tsunami relief money) Japanese whale poaching fleet in the Southern Ocean now? Why did it come withion 4 miles of Macquarie Island yesterday - which is inside Australian territorial waters? The Japanese fleet has broken maritime law. The Japanese Government has broken international law to protect whales. You lie.

@OneiroscopeB Can you try and write in understandable English? The Japanese kill doplphins in Taiji every year, I don't know of anybody that disputes the legal killings. The fleet is in the Southern Ocean to hunt whales for research. Please provide real proof of the position of the Japanese vessel and anyway it is Australia's decision whether to pursue the issue. What maritime law has been broke by the Japanese? And Japan is in compliance with all international whaling laws.

@DTofMN In compliance with the law that protects whales from hunting? Obviously not. In compliance with maritime law that protects a country's borders? Obviously not - YM3 is STILL NOW inside our territory near Macquarie Island, despite Gillard protesting to Japan. WM3 continues to hold the 3 activists who embarrassed its 'security' so well - that looks like kidnapping to me.
Why not continue to plunder Northern Pacific waters as it has done so well and leave the Southern Ocean.

Whale research is important. Recent population growth, abnormal weather and diastrophism may cause food shortage in the future. It is not wise to depend only on livestock industry or farming for meat or fish. Whale meat can be important food. Further, if there is no whaling, whales may grow too large and they may eat too much fish which is already an important food.

I hope the japanese are feeding those three australian guys a steady diet of whale meat and sake. Those three nincompoops are along for the ride. The nerve of these australian numb-skulls! I dare those retards to go and illegally board an Iranian vessel in the Strait of Hormuz and then babble about if they "are in good health and if they are being held in appropriate conditions".
