We thought the whole deaf club was liars when we turned off the volume on the juke box. We tested them all night!!! Bah! Hah! They finally got mad at us!! FINISH! ENOUGH!! THINK EASY???
Haha, I am a CODA and I always thought both of my parents could hear and were lying to me and my sister! Me and my sister would be talking about one of them and all of sudden they'll turn around and ask us what we're saying about them!
I am still convinced that when my dad is on his death bed he will tell me the biggest secret of all - HE CAN HEAR BUT IF I DARE TELL ANYONE I'LL DIE!!
I am a deaf coda of a coda(meaning I'm a second generation coda). The deaf parents or grandparents don't hear , they lipread with the eyes on the back of their head. I once sassed off to my deaf grandmother, whom did not sign, behind her back and she turned to me and said don't you sass back at me. After that I never sassed back cuz I knew those eyes on the back of her head were watching me. lLOL
Im 23 and would love to make a deaf friend to teach me ASL. I know my alphabet by heart and know over 200 words. But would love to learn more. Even if its Cam to Cam chat. If anyone deaf is willing to help and even make a new friends please write me a msg. Thanks :)
Hey BROS, I have a lawsuit for you. It's for my pain in my stomach from lots of laughter. I called my "tummy" doctor and he said that sometimes laughter causes severe pain in "tummy". It's your FAULT, BROS!
yeah im 13 years old and me and my sister are coda's and we always test our mom and dad hahaha.
this one time i blared the music in my car and turned the bass down and i could'nt even handle it hahaha my mom and dad said "whats wrong"!! hahahaha lol my parents are so funny
WOW! This brings me back to my childhood! After some discussion, my brother and I decided that our mother was "faking" her deafness so that she could catch us misbehaving. So we administered a similar test. FUNNY! I now work at a Deaf school and some of our children give me the test to see if Im really hearing... its kind of a role reversal.
*grins* I had a similar experience when I was a kid. I didn't believe my mom when she told me she couldn't hear so I decided to give her a test: I screamed as loud as I possibly could and asked her if she could hear me. That annoyed her really, really quickly. Excellent video!
omg hahahaha the effenheimer, that's awesome! I'm not a coda but I know plenty of kodas, and they are forever testing their parents' hearing with snide comments and expletives. but i'm not one of those evil hearing snitches -- i just giggle and let 'em at it. cuz it's hilarious. :-)
Im a coda too.... iw was always scared to tell people cause i thot people would think i was crazy, but im not!!!!! im just a coda, but my mom can hear and she totally doesnt get it, she thot i was jk til she saw this video lol i always thot i wast the only one who thot this
im a terp student in South Dakota and my teacher is deaf... I have been with her for 4 years now and I swear she can hear... it is so funny her kids and I talk about it all the time :) You guys make me laugh thanks!
Hey guys I'm a student for ASL interpreting, and my fellow students and I have been watching you guys and you're hilarious! Especially to the Codas in our class! Check out my video I made for a scholarship I'm trying to win. The more hits the better my chances to win! Thanks, terp to be!
Now that's what I call 'denial', smile... I like your sign for pulling out meat... or spilling your guts out!
fellow Coda... I'll never forget in my early interpreting career and meeting Deaf preschoolers, I was terping for a young Deaf man... those youngsters couldn't beleive that somebody that old was Deaf.. maybe they thought when they got older that they would become hearing?
my terp friend told me the SAME thing! LOL... Deaf kids think they'll "become" hearing when they grow up until they met me, Deaf mom!! LOL.... sooo funny and cute.
thanks. :) My boys are hearing which is funny - They keep forgetting that I am Deaf and whenever they talk and I say "what?" I have to remind them to repeat with ASL than to repeat with voice again and again.
and i used to think that my parents could hear. and when i turn 18 or something they will be like "this is everything bad that you said through the years" or something.
Not a CODA but used to live with deaf woman and I was so impressed... one day her son (hey Teo!) was making himself throw up in the bathroom to avoid school, and while I was deciding whether to rat him out, he came out to show her, and she was soooo onto him. Still don't know how she did that. Guess she just knew her kid.
Holy crap, all my brothers and sisters- we joke about that. Our dad will have his back turned fixin' a sammich or somthing, and we'll be talking about somthing specific- then he'll turn around and start talking about it.. He CAN hear! I swear!
I don't know about CODA. I don't even know why you thought your parents lied to you. I don't see what's wrong with being deaf. Is that your Freudian slips? Gosh, you cursed with bad words. Wow. Edward Gallaudet, a son of Thomas Gallaudet and was the 2nd president of Gallaudet College, and AG Bell both were CODA. Edward supported eugenic society when he just answered. I still don't understand CODA. I don't mean to get wrong idea. I'm just trying to understand.
I'm not an expert, but it makes sense that there are additional developmental issues for a coda w/o any hearing parental figure, although you're probably technically correct.

Oops, my mistake. They were not CODA. Both of them had deaf mothers.

If they had Deaf moms then they are CODA. Child of Deaf Adult.

It doesn't matter - just one parent has to be Deaf for you to 'qualify'.
