Here was my issue with this performance: I have no problem with James showing his emotion, but I want to find out about it through his voice. That's why he's a singer, and not just a sob story. Someone somewhere pointed out that Fantasia moved herself to tears - but only let herself cry AFTER her performances. That's what I wanted from James.

Still, overall, I like him a lot! :D

I'm a Durbin fan, and even I know this was horrible. He was an absolute mess Top 5 night. Like honestly fellow Durbin fans, are you that much in denial?

I understand he was torn apart with his family, but a performer has to suck it up and deliver, which James by far didn't do.

I think some constructive criticism helps artists (and the judges never gave it), and so that's why I'm being honest.

@gnarlyincubus I have to agree with you on this. I am a Hardcore Durbinator, but I have to say that this performance was average, not good, not bad, just average. It is risky to choose a sing that's emotional for you, James should have went with a different one. I give James some credit for trying, but his emotions got in the way of everything. Like you said, as a performer you need to control emotions. If James can learn from that, he will be more successful.

@gnarlyincubus It seems that his last 2 weeks on American Idol were not so good, if he sang great like he did on "Maybe I'm Amazed", "Living For The City", and "Will You Still Love Me Tommorow", he would of made it to the finale, it was such a shame. I wanted to see a James vs Scotty finale, because that would be badass. Country vs Rock/Metal, the ultamite showdown.

This is the song that got him voted off. It is a very hard song to sing and a song like this will either show how good, bad or mediocre you are. Unfortunately for James, it showed why he is on American Idol and dosen't have a contract out right. He is a nice kid, and I think that he would have won, if not for this poor song choice. It is hard to try and compare yourself to Harry Nilsson.

Also James doesn't have a contract outright because he has had several offers and he is taking time to weight out his options and choose what would be the best fit for him, not everyone gets voted off and within seconds has a contract thats not how it works? So calm down buddy. Oh and also he wasnt trying to compare himself to Harry, thats not what you do on idol, he was being himself.

@jjmasmom I don't know if you actually watch the show or not? but the judges say every week the most important thing is be yourself, be yourself, be you. That is what he was doing, he was doing his version not Harrys and you need to listen to the song as if it is the first time your hearing it and see what you think you can't compare it to how good the original artist sang it because he isn't the original artist they are 2 completely different people and have completely different styles.

She shouldnt hav been top 3, though her second song wasnt to bad. the judges ranted on Hailey yesterday so that it'd b Scotty V. Lauren V. Hailey, then Hailey will easily get voted out so that the finale can use something like "Hoedown Throwdown" as their theme, Like they used the David V. David thing.So she got the sympathy votes plus the vote the worst votes.

@StarsEyes13 James crying and Haley's rant were on different weeks, you're reading it all wrong. Many people agreed with you first, rather than judging by quality you're talking about popularity. At the same time Haley had the best performance of the top 4, people still blame her for James not making it, while Scotty the worst that night gets away with it by his obvious popularity. She wasn't easily voted out of the finale, that was a rushed thought. If James was 3rd, "Hee-haw" finale as well.

I'm obviously am judging on quality, but its my opinion of the quality. I like James' voice better. And yes, Haley was easier to get out then James. Scotty, just by his deep voice and looks made him win: the wgwg heartthrob. This "Scotty and Lauren" thing is gonna end sometime. Just because they were young and sang country, they were the favorites. Not one single night Scotty gave the best performance or stood out in any way. And Lauren only stood out at the finale, because she was against Scotty. OK, bye.

@StarsEyes13 Haley and James were the best contestants. Haley outsang everybody many of the weaks, especially Top 5, Top 4, and Top 3. You may not like her voice because that's your taste, but Haley was by far the strongest contestant at the end.

Lauren's range is average, but she deserved to be up there. Scotty winning let alone making the Top 6 was laughable.

What I'm saying is don't bash Haley. Haley, James, Pia, Casey, and Lauren were the best this year.
