Why don't big companies with large amounts of resources build games like this instead of the yearly COD series or WoW updates coming every few months and updates every other year? Why don't they push the envelope and develop games that are truly breathtaking, like Infinity?
@raiderodeath123 They might not make a guaranteed profit. MMO's cost LOADS of money to make, between 40-60 million dollars. You wouldn't want to lose that much money if it bombs, so why try in the first place? the Infinity team is doing this to push the boundaries of gaming, and maybe make a profit.
@blashyrhkRAAA Atmospheres are actually that thin, and the only reason these planets are so close together is that the planets are actually moons of the gas giant.
Yeah, I'm already paying for Xbox live subscription. No matter how awesome this game will be, I'm not paying a subscription over $70 a year. Even That's pushing it. It's a team of TWELVE developers! The game MAKES the majority of itself through procedural generation, it's not like they're paying 50,000 people to work full time, modeling out 200 billion planets! (200 billion is not an exaggeration) But that's just me. I'm sure Eve players will convince them otherwise.
@catapult59000 Have you ever paid for a runescape subscription? Well let me tell you that runescape is not worth even a dollar a month, and yet people still pay out the ass for their 2d fag simulator. The amount of content in runescape isn't even impressive either, I've sen free games with more content then it, this looks like it could genuinely become a great game, and just because there are only a few staf right now doesn't mean they won't expand.
Been reading about this game recently, seems pretty cool. Heard it'll have good physics and everything. I just really hope they don't have a stupid fucking monthly fee like those eve fuckers.
@darkling9109 Well, if you want, Darkling9109, you can maintain the servers running the game with several thousand people all interacting on them all by yourself. Get them ready for when infinity get's put out. If a monthly fee is stupid, I’m sure you won't have any problems at all keeping a server bank costing tens of thousands running and maintained all day every day, and who care's about electricity bills and technical support staff or developing new content? That’s all for chumps, right?
@darkling9109 Eve has costs. Those costs don’t just vanish because you want them to. Those costs won't just pop out of existence if CCP suddenly sais, I know, we should provide Eve for free. They’re already better than most MMOs for providing free expansions (see WoW). Either you end up with a poor quality product, or you find a way of having a high quality product paid for by sustainable means. CCP has gone with subscriptions, and is now one of the oldest surviving MMOs, and still it's growing.
Nice ,even on a relatively low power machine, hope it hits the shops, elite is long overdue a decent follow up, but please, put proper newtonian physics back into space games. i hate point and fly spaceships, i want to do what the babylon 5 starfuries do, spin whilst firing , but keep moving in same vector,as would hapen

sure, it looks really nice. but haven't you forgotten something? =) what happens when an object travels at high speed through an atmosphere? i'm just hinting at what you have clearly missed.
because it's so good, other good games should have it too so they become better and the people who enjoy those games more than Infinity have it too :)
I've been watching this game develop for a long time and if they really put into it the features they say, i think it will be better than any of the other sci-fi space games out there.
it could be categorized into astrophysics, as all the stars are going to be realistically created with mass / brightness ect. : P so science game greatness. the galaxy will be realistic too in size and such. everything is going to be in real scale
In this game can you play in space in spaceship, play on land and use vehicles and use aicraft?
If you can that would be awesome!

@Naibasaki I'm not an expert by any means, but the thing is plenty of games out there host tons of people at once without screwing people over.

Maybe our Universe is an INFINITY game designed by a group of developpers in a Universe beyond ours... Who knows lol
This game looks awesome

But it's just talk, I don't think that the Universe is some game or whatever design by a group of other things.

This should be applied to an RTS, so you could build bases and cities on each planet.
metabog 2 years ago 3
but this is an RTS. not yet but it will be.
cyllusG36 2 years ago
*buzzer sound*
Not true. There are RTS elements, but it is not an RTS. It's a sort of hybrid space sim-RPG in a sandbox universe.
