  • лучшфя игра за все годы существования игровой индустрии. я большой фанат этой игры. не понимаю почему Пол Куиссет ( Paul Cuisset) не сделает перезапуск Flashback Legend или продолжение Fade to Black (((

  • This game is probably the only 90's game I'm still attached to......it's a great game with a true genuine story and game play, unlike today's games where you just point and shoot...;-p

  • I like this characters extravagant jumping while running animation.

  • the guys looks strangely like mc hammer

  • I'll never forget the sound of that alarm...

  • That game looks soo much like Oddworld Abe's Oddysee

  • @Linds6259 Well it inspired Abe's Oddysee. What you should really have said is, "That game looks soo much like Another World", as Flashback is something of a spiritual successor to Another World, along with Heart of Darkness, the latter being developed by Chahi who worked on Another World, while the former was made by Delphi, the company for which Chahi worked prior to Flashback.

Of course, all of these games owe their existence to Prince of Persia, the grandaddy of the cinematic platformer.

  • @CuriousMoth Nah it looks like Abe's Oddysee to me.

  • @Linds6259 But... but... History lesson! You can't argue with that!

  • @CuriousMoth Ooh I dunno.

I gave my history teacher a run for his money a few times

  • looks like harry mason.

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • awesome song!

  • @MrSchmerr I agree :D

  • The best way of of completing the game is just by dropping a teleporter at the begining of the round, once you are done down there, just teleport back to the start position and voila!

  • @mcossy Awesome! My father did that when the game was first released. I thought it was rather clever when I was a kid.

  • @IntertubeNinja That level solution is so obvious and at the same time so difficult to realize. I wonder how many Flashback players are still unaware of this way of finishing the game. Greetings.

  • @mcossy Yep - just be careful you dont trap yourself with the lifts

  • Wow, I just realized why this game seems so familiar to me; the main character moves and has the weight of the Prince in the old Prince of Persia games.

  • This character's movements seem exactly the same as Abe from Abe's Oddessy

  • @Kandecid yep based on the same engine apart from this game was first

  • This looks just like Fade to Black on Playstation. Any reason why?

  • @Kire667

this game is the prequel of fade to black-conrad heart is the same charackter in both games.fade to black starts where flashback ends.

  • I could never trigger the final game scene, it was a bug or something. I ran, got to my ship, and then, nothing.

  • @Renegen1 Theres a lift hidden behind the ships landing gear - hold a press up, as you would a normal lift - voila!!! Got me too!!!

  • is it just me or does the main character almost make you want to go find Doc and make him go "Marty!! We have to go back to the future!!"

  • dont see how this is a great game but i can tell it would have been sweet 30 years ago

call of duty modern warfar is a good game this is just an oldy moldy platformer

  • It had a good story - unlike modern warfare.

It was innovative - unlike modern warfare.

It was great - yep, you guessed it... Unlike modern warfare.

MW is the most over-rated game about, it's such a crock of shit.

  • @Xtortion1337 Well said, but I don't think all the idiots that think games like Flashback are 'weird' will ever tire of being sold the same game over and over, year after year.

  • @StuntManPliskin The truth is that some people just cannot play cinematic platformers. Take a look at hateworkboy's video walkthrough of Abe's Oddysee for instance. The man completes the game by stumbling through it, barely understanding the controls all the way to the last scene. On the other hand there are people who pick up the controls and style of play in a matter of minutes and quickly come to love the graceful visuals and dynamic, realistic use of controls and actions.

  • @Xtortion1337

    1) Modern Warfare is a FPS Game While Flashback is a 2D Game

    2) MW Is Good, and Flashback is good to

    3) Deal whit it

In my opinion, I think both games are good.

PS: I don't play Mw, because I don't have it, I also like Flashback too

  • @Xtortion1337 Yahtzee gave Modern Warfare a great review- because it was a great game.

  • @Xtortion1337 really? because yahtzee LOVED the first modern warfare

  • @Xtortion1337 your comment sucks, your uninnovative and you suck.

  • This music is so perfect.

  • Funny vid...brought back memories...but how do i get the last 1:16 seconds of my life back?

  • Flashback: Bon Jovi... awesome chips and cheeze with a pint o' rock-n-roll. I was severely frustrated until I learned where the lift was.

  • You can also "cheat" (use wits instead of action) by placing the teleporter receiver right near the exit spaceship, and teleporting there after planting the bomb.

I always died trying to jump through the green flames like in the beginning of this vid. Throwing the teleporter receiver across to avoid them is I believe the correct way. ;)

  • The end of this game seems so lackluster now but at the time it was some seriously exciting shit.

I have such fond memories of this game.

  • Best game ever, the vid brought back some fond memories. cheers.

  • cheers

  • gg^^

    putain de bon jeu

  • All that for Conrad to wind up lost in space...

Kind of like Liberating some aliens just to get mauled to near-death.

  • Yes i remember this run this games wa very difficult. Also I recomend Bermuda sindrome that is also a great game like this one

  • Ah bitch. I could never finish that last level. There was a god damn elevator there. I thought I was too slow a ship takes off if you get there too slow. I can't believe I missed it so many times. Damn you Yahtzee for showing me that I suck.

Also Eye of the Tiger would have been acceptable music for that run, though a little cliche.

  • I kept thinking the same thing, I would always get to the end and say "WTF do I do?" You also have trouble seeing the outer "grille" because it's hidden behind that stupid fence-thing.

  • What? I finished that level in my childhood when is was like 6 or seven ^^

  • PARKOUR!!!

  • Comments before ZP:

    lol nice vid

    Comments after ZP:

OMG YAHTZEE LOL I LOVE ZP

  • would have been better if there wasn't that music.

  • Dude, everything is better with Bon Jovi.

  • fuck you man!!! this is a classic

  • Would it be possibly that the comments are drifting away from the content of the video? Yes, yes it would.

  • Everyone here forgot about Blackthorne, good game.

  • lol was this sega remember thinking wat is the point when i first played this ..... oh and what the hell happend to sonic he was once cool but know im embarresed to even buy the games knw retro sonic forever

  • Mirror's Edge was a shitty version version of Mirror's Edge...

  • good point

  • Are you like 5 months old that you compare this to Mirrors egde ...

  • hey now just because i dont like mirrors edge dont mean you got to be a fag bout it

  • Oh, i never siad that i jsut meant you cant realyy compare a shitty game (mirrors edge) that was only made for grpahics (which weren t that great anyway .. to a classic game concept used in oddworld etc ... i think you got the wrong end of the stick there buddy .. were on the same page! :P

  • This reminds me both of Oddworld and Prince of Persia.

  • That and metroid.

  • lol oddworld i played that years ago it was one of the best games of its time lol

  • prince of persia?

  • that should be a zero puncuation quote

  • this looks like prince of persia went to planet zeebs to meet samus for a tea party

  • lol oddworld ?

  • lol Prince of Persia?

I understand where your coming from the Oddworld games were very popular cinematic platformer but to say "lol oddworld ?" is the same as seeing a gameplay video of Halo and saying "lol Half life ?"

  • Would be interesting if the game continued, in this 2D platform style but with the levels of Fade2Black.

  • How on Earth could I have been an Abe's Oddysee fan for so long without knowing about this game? Crikey!

  • I WAS JUST THINKING THAT! Heart of Darkness, Another World, now this! i gotta get it!

  • Omg you too I thought I was the only one that loved the Oddworld series, and Heart of Darkness.

Strangley enough I've just ordered Another World & Flashback for the SNES and I'm digging out Fade2Black now.

  • flashback + bon jovi = WIN-zilla

  • I just started replaying Heart of Darkness on the PSone. Great fun. I never got to play Flashback... Had loads of fun with Fade to Black and Out of this World way back when. Those would be great additions to the Wii virtual console...

  • best running and jumping animation in any computer game ever! i Dare you to prove me wrong.

  • Its what defines flashback. I still remember how awesome it looked back then, and it still looks pretty neat even now!

  • awkwardly reminds me of super metroid

  • when i first did this...i could never find that final elevator at the end...its so hard to see and your not even looking for it!!!

  • this game always reminded me of the Back To The Future films, especially the ending music.

  • How was that so?

  • wtf?

  • ahhh yahtzee's beginning

  • The music is what makes it!

    This is genius!

    (Yahtzee is a dick though)

    :D

  • Yahtzee did this? HUH?

  • the movements seemed very similar to the original prince of persia, especially the jumps...same engine?

  • Nope, PoP looked quite a bit worse. Flashback and Another World both looked very similar though (most people seemed to think one game was a sequal of the other but they were unrelated, Flashback had a sequal called "Fade to Black" and Another World had a sequal called "Heart of the Alien" though).

  • You should have used The Final Countdown for the background music ;p

  • WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!?!?!

  • "A video of the final run to the finish at the end of Flashback, with music by Bon Jovi."

  • But that shit is so cash.

  • cheated? how?

  • Conrad must have been an Olympic long jumper before he joined the Galactic Bureau of Investigation. XD The motif of the Morph homeworld is colorful and exotic. Reminds me of Super Metroid. And I love those Morph larvae and slither around! Not enough of those.

  • Awesome taste in music AND games. Yahtzee you are truly an example to us all. ^_^

  • Gah! I've been desperately looking for the name of this game! Thank you Yahtzee!

  • whoa what the hell thats just like abe!

  • I noticed too. Flashback is, get this, bringing FLASHBACKS! (See what I did there?)

  • Except that Flashback came out many years before Abe and the whole flick screen thing that both Flashback and Abe use came out in games many years before them both in things such as Impossible Mission on the C64, Elf on the Amiga...etc.. The influence goes back to the 80's.

  • Wow, you play Flashback too?

I recently got the game from a Play n Trade in Charolette North Carolina for 5 bucks on the SNES. Im not sure what to say about it, other than i shouldnt have given up so easly and try to play it again. I heard and did a bit of research on the game from wiki of all places, and saw adds for it in the old Cable comics i picked up a few months ago, and i know its tied into the PSX Fade to Black games, which can be seen at every PnT in the Raleigh NC area.

    But cool...

  • Oh fuck Yahtzee, how I love thee.

I have been trying to remember the name

of this game for like half the year!

    Thanks.

  • Those movements of the character... their movements are identical to Abe!

  • Hush!

  • i just jumped to the end what did i miss why is the forest pink and slimy

  • lol best running animation ever

  • Now I know where Oddworld Inhabitants got their inspiration from. Exoddus is awesome, though.

  • What rock group exactly is singing this song?

  • this is JUST like prince of persia, infact its the same movements

  • played this game over and over and over. beat it on hard many times. so fun!

  • good music.

  • Amazing game, I also loved the spiritual prequel, Another World. ~ Colin

  • "Another World" (known as "Out of This World" in the US) is not the same story as this game. It was just developed by the same company. That and "Flashback" are two totally different games. Flashback is not at all a sequel to Another World. They are as different from eachother as Star Wars and Star Trek.

  • That's why I said "spiritual" Prequel.

  • i tagt star wars was the sequel of star trek?

  • Even though this is taking it off topic- Star Wars has no ties to Star Trek. ST was created by Gene Roddenberry as SW was created by George Lucas. Captain James Kirk and General Han Solo never existed in the same universe as far as I know.

  • Whatever.

  • I think I should have added /sarcasm

  • Goddamn there's some dumb kids on this site. Good to see love for Flashback though. An amazing game for its time.

  • I would love to see more game use that kind of 2D graphics, fantastic.

  • Ever heard of Castle Crashers?

  • Yes I have! I tried out the demo and it was fun and very charming. Have you heard of Odin Sphere?

  • I was going to mention black thorn, then was pleasantly surprised that it had already been mentioned...yahtzee you are awesome man

  • shame on you. This game came out BEFORE any of abes wacky adventures and as stated in the comments below some of the same people who worked on flashback also worked on oddworld.

  • you're also forgetiing Blackthorn, theyre all basically the same premise

  • its called "artist signature"

  • You know nothing. This game was made years before abe's oddworld.

  • Bon Jovi makes everything more awesome.

  • If you look at the character model his clothing looks exactly like arnold schwarzeneggers from the movie Last Action Hero,Lol!

  • Eric Chahi sounds roughly right XD Ah how i wish he could work his magic on modern games, i havent really felt the need to get a ps3/xbox360/wii...Games might be bigger and badder than before but i feel they've lost their magic.Tho then again playing vs kids on xbox live isnt my idea of fun...

And oddworld is still around? :O They were supposed to make like an oddworld quintology back in 1997, guess they changed their plans? I'l have to keep an eye out for their films ^^

  • i remember thi game so well ,we still have it for sega cd.

  • I like the way they hid the elevator at the end, i quit playing that game until i saw it on you tube, i would just get there and stand there.

  • It should be pointed out that perhaps one of the reasons the Oddworld series seems to draw from flashback or another world is because they share some of the developpers. Tho the Eric chapla(forget exact name) dude didnt work on it, fully half of thise who worked on abes games also worked on flashback/another world,so its a style those programmers had. With Delphine bankrupt and even the oddworld developpers bankrupped, we cant expect any more similar games now unfortunately....

  • Oddworld didn't go bankrupt. They switched focus from games to film.

  • Cool, I didn't know some of the guys who made Oddworld made Another World as well (names are fairly close to each other too)...By the Way, I believe it's Eric Chahi.

  • That's true. Best game ever!

  • The character animation looks like a direct knock off of the real Prince of Persia game.

  • whoah, did they really have the cool 80's music play at the end like that too?? lol

  • Best

    Game

    Ever

  • I actually played this final part more than 10 times (back in 1994 I think) because I kept on failing to realize that at the spot where he stands on 1:15, there is an elevator beneath him... (you have to admit it is a bit camouflaged)

  • The art style is very akin to 16-bit Metroid titles.

  • It's funny how all the kiddies compare this to the Abe games... when this was clearly made LONG before them. And it's immensely funny how they mention it might be using the same game engine, even physics?! LOL! it's a simple 2D side scrolling game with basic sprite animation!! This stuff is SO basic, i could code the same sort of thing in 5 minutes within Flash. It hardly requires a 'game engine'. Pfft, kids. 90% of the time spent on this would have been on drawing those background graphics.

  • shush nerd am watching a video.

  • LOL me, nerd? That you in ya school vid? you look like a litte homosexual nerd... so do you your mates. Just dont upload vids of you eating out there arsholes ok?

  • ummm.... wow that was kinda "douche-bag-ish" man. merely a comment.

    *puts up flame/thumbs down shield*

  • Shush nerd am watching a video.

    geez why dont dweebs listern?

  • Shush yourself tweep

  • ALL HAIL CONRAD!!!! even though the game was made 16 years ago... Flashback shall never be forgotten... but we shall also not forget Prince of Persia, Lode Runner, or Power Pete... may they live for ever!

  • @BinLadenMustDie368 I only knew about this game to yahtzee. As for the others, i have never heard of them, except POP which i found out from the sands of time.

  • Do you think anyone here actually realises that flashback came out 16 years ago?

    btw... Awesome game!

  • How interesting, it's like a futuristic prince of persia...

  • this is exactly the same as Abe if anyones played/seen that

  • I was just thinking that. Even the mines in this game look the same.

  • Well said dear sir.

  • ah, cinematic platformers. along with mainstream adventure titles and on-rail shooters, it's a genre i'm sure if any more crappy F.P.S' are produced will be dead. too bad. anyone one remember games like the oddworld series or heart of darkness where you needed to have brains to play them? it seem now that more gamers would prefer to hold down a trigger for 20 minutes than appreciate the clever design of these games. anyone agree/comment?

  • While there are clever first person shooters as well (half-life being the natural example) you do have a point.

  • thanks. i read a PROTIP on how to defeat the cyberdemon in doom: "shoot at it until it dies". yep, that describes the majority of F.P.S' alright! btw, half-life is an awesome series

  • I got this *overwhelming* feeling that you just gave a description of yourself without even realising it. Your comment actualy made me enjoy this game even more.

    I loev u Conrad Hart!!!111

  • you could also simply put the teleporter on the lift at the end and just teleport there as soon as the countdown starts :D

  • Does anybody else notice the striking similarity to Abe's Exodus? All we need is some Mudokuns and some pigeon circles and we're good to go.

  • Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey was the first of the series. Which is exactly like this, lol.

  • Flashback was out about... oh... the whole of eternity before any Abe games :P

  • looks like the game another world and metroid!

  • Another World was Delphine's previous game, Flashback was their next in the early 90s (1993 or 1994 I think).

  • well what do you think? sorry let me reprase that, shut your piehole kid.

  • looks like prince of persia

  • Both games use Rotoscoping - simple animation from video taken of real actors.

The animation this produced, was amazing to us in the 90s, many going "No WAY! only a CD based system can animate like this!" - same was said of Donkey Kong Country's CGI-like detail.

The film "A Scanner Darkly" with Keanu Reeves is the most advanced rotoscoping to date.

  • This looks like a combination between Prince of Persia on the SNES (which is the most frustrating game in existance in my opinion), Metroid (by looking on the enviroment) and...like...Lethal Weapon. :O

  • Both P.O.P and Flashback use rotoscoping to animate characters - Another World was Delphine's first try, Flashback was their second.

  • bad thing i remember about this game is that very last spot spending about 2 hours and not seeing that stupid elevator....durr

  • Ha! Same thing happened to me.
