Yes the southern states invented rock and roll, however, last time I checked Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams were as white as a snowflake, So, the south put black blues with honkey tonk country and rock and roll was invented....Both Black and White artist contributed as for Europe, Britain etc. they saw, they heard they copied....that simple
I, too, am a Stones fan, and it appears to me these guys are heavily influenced by the Stones. We have that heavy, Keith Richards style rhythm guitar, Ronnie
Woods lead guitar licks and the base player even looks like a young Keith Richards which reminds me of a shot of Richards in a top hat in the 1968 production "Rock & Roll Circus". To be sure Robinson does not sound like Jagger but one cannot have it all!
@LeChevalierNoir4474 Robinson moves the mic and jumps like a young Jagger. Stones the top influence on them, with a bit of the Faces. No insult; it made the Crowes a badass band!
I don't care what anyone says. Chris Robinson is a great frontman. This band gave me confidence to do what needs to be done: but your soul damn well better be there too.
this is how i remember them :) in the 90's... what the hell happened in the '00??? this is one of my all time favorite bands!!!! i was so shocked to see the recent live shows. just doesn't have the same vocal quality anymore.
A "maple leaf"? I usually hate using acronyms, but OMG AYKM? I'm laughing so hard, I'm at a loss for what to write. Thanks for making me laugh on a Sunday morning. Back to the video, great song and lineup for the band. I wished they had held up longer and made that same music after those early albums. I guess becoming advocates for cannabis took it's toll. They could've been icons for new Southern Rock.
i think its funny how myself and other musicians always get their asses jumped by rednecks for wearing tight clothes and makeup, but their showing to these concerts and listening to our fuckin music!!!! like i see a crowd full of them here unfortunately. it kinda pisses me off. i could be wrong but who else would wave around an american flag?? thats embarrassing
@ratpunk96 Being a good musician doesn't have anything to do with wearing tight clothes and makeup. I've listened to classic rock, 90s rock, and some new rock all my life and I've never worn makeup. I play drums even. Don't think just because I'm obsessed with Led Zeppelin I love the fact the Robert Plant's dick was hanging out of his pants at every show. If you dress feminine and wear makeup do you really expect to be embraced everywhere you go? Just because you're a musician? Come on.
You're entitled to your opinion, but you're not entitled to the facts. Rock & Roll is the evolved byproduct of blues, gospel, and country. Music academicians and historians know this to be true.
AWESOME..AWESOME POST!!!! VINTAGE CROWES!!! Back when they were hard rockin' .....america's next great Rock and roll Band...and before they went all trippy jam bandy......

Just another example of an American band that kept rock alive during a time when hip-hop, rap(it up, please) and other so called popular "stuff," that took over MTV in the 90's.
Now, those of you who are pissed because I singled out an "American," band, as Eric would sing:
Many great American R&R bands had disappeared and the Black Crowes were a great relief, compared to some of the sounds we were stuck with here.
As for, "British bands started Rock'n'roll," I'd say, the beginnings of Jerry lee Lewis, and Elvis Presley here in the states, in the mid to late 50's, and the beginning of "serious," R& R," in Britain that would make us even, but it was the "Beatle," explosion that made R&R great in both countries.
I would definately agree that all of rock'n'rolls forefounders, the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly, American class acts definately deserve a great deal of credit in starting the wave and influencing new bands, but bands like The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, The Beatles as you mentioned and of course classic Status Quo were definately the big promoters of the music. It then turned into a joint act with loads of acts rockin'
I think you finally got it clear for the both of us.
Besides the difinitive bands you mentioned:The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Who, (Led Zepplin,) with Jeff Beck, and anything Clapton, Britain had many more second tier bands, such as those you mentioned:The Kinks and Status Quo,and many more than the U.S..
Meaning, I agree, Britain had a great head start, which the United States picked up on.
definately, and oops about forgetting Led Zepplin, John Bonham best drummer ever. Yeah Clapton, Cream quality, moving onto American bands you still have the immortal Frank Zappa, classic southern rock acts like Lynard Skynard and Black Crowes, and then Britain picked up the flag with rock indie, Stone Roses and The Smiths...
American music, Gods of Hardrock, I love new bands like Priestess and Black Stone Cherry. And of course the Aussies, AC/DC, legends.
@salynredoran Sadly mistaken dude... It was black sabbath in the sixties... It's called metal because to some people it resembled the sound of a metal factory in burningham england...
@BlackDahliaPriest no I think you're sadly mistaken. It was people like Elvis and Little Richard who had profound influences on early British bands like the Beatles. The Stones were directly influenced by American blues artists. Black Sabbath isn't even in the picture yet. And it's no contest anyway. It's a fact. Americans invented rock and roll, and the British cultivated it,meaning made it grow and prosper. It wouldn't be a great art form without interpretations from both sides of the pond
@salynredoran interesting theory, my friend. I tend to agree, although we may find a number of opponents. Being a Stones fan, I have myself some doubts.

Say what? Both nations produced kick ass R&R, but its original roots manifested in America, starting with Gospel & Blues & Country.
R&R certainly did change dramatically throughout the years, and even today it's continuing to change (for the worse).
Now, about your silly little American insult - Go get a cup of hot tea, and then go f**k yourself.
