  • Carpet stains have been a problem for auto recon departments for a long time. There are many ways to attack this problem; from red stain removers to carpet cleaners designed to remove many of the tough stains.

  • Some stains are so set that no matter what stain removal product is used, the stain just wont completely go away and the carpet is permanently discolored by the stain. There have been many attempts at a solution to this problem in the past, even going as far as replacing the entire interior carpet. This process has proven not only difficult but very expensive. There has to be an easier way!

  • A few years ago, a new system was developed that provided an easy, inexpensive, and effective way to transform a stained interior into a consistent carpet color. It allows you to dye the entire carpet.

Isnt that an interesting thought? So how does it work? The dye system is water based which gives the dye several benefits. First, the water base means that if overspray occurs, it can be wiped off without causing the overspray area to be dyed.

  • Once the water based dye is sprayed onto the clean carpet, it penetrates the fibers deep down to the nap of the carpet. After drying the carpet fibers can be brushed to look new again. Unlike aerosol sprays, the water based dye will not leave a hard, crusty feel or appearance. The dye covers over most stains and helps restore the natural look and feel. The process is really that easy.

  • What does this mean for your recon department?

    • It provides an extremely cost effective alternative to carpet replacement which means you save thousands on recon costs. (One car can be dyed for as little as $9 in material costs.)

  • • The simplicity of the dye system means that anyone can apply it with very little training.

    • Since theres no taping involved, the dye system cuts down on the turnover time in the recon department. (Most carpets only take about 20 minutes)

    • Most importantly, because you can sell a car with an interior that looks brand new, you turn a larger profit.

  • What should you look for with a carpet dye system? Make sure that the carpet dye system is a water based dye system. This will allow the carpet to remain soft and not hard or crusty. Typically the resulting color of the carpet will be between the original carpet color and the dye color that is used. The dye color should be chosen on how dark the stains are that need to be covered. Often, you will want to use a dye color that is a shade darker than your original carpet.

  • When you start using a carpet dye system, your customers will see the quality of the restored carpet, and youll start seeing and decrease in your recon costs and most importantly, an increase in your sales, and profit.
