  • doesn't it affect the sustain???

  • @WorldEnslaved It does. Shouldn't be noticeable with a clean guitar and not too much noise, but my guess is it wouldn't get along with effects that enhance sustain (any fuzz or compressor). Anyway, unless you use some extreme compression or have a shitload of noise in your signal, it should be OK.

  • pretty nice sound gate... A total must have if you find it used (at cheap price)

  • is this in the effects loop?

  • so it just gets rid of the feedback?

  • also can be use for bass guitar's humming? especially p bass

  • buy noiseless pickups and problem solved

  • Monte allums has just released a mod for this pedal which is very cool :) I remember I stopped using it because it sucks some tone etc!! Monet has sorted this out

  • If you bought some decent leads, then you might find you don't need a noise suppressor to eliminate the noise...

  • @MusicFactory14 Guitar goes to input send goes to all the used pedals and the last used pedal goes at return and output goes at the amp

  • 0:00 : mwokay (SOUTH PARK TEACHER?)

  • Comment removed

  • the send and return is just like an effects loop except the pedals u put in the loop are going to be compresed so if u wanted only ur distortions to be compressed ud just put them in the loop.Like fr example to set ur pedals up it would go... wah wah comp then like usual u plug in the input and output but then throw ur distortion pedals in the loop after that u do chours and finally ur echo

  • this pedal always eliminate the humm or just eliminate it when you are not playing?? HElp!

  • @pinchimike when you krank on the pedal then it does what it is supposed to do.If its just bypass and Not kranked it is just neutral

  • would this help to cut excess noise because when i palm mute a squelie like sounds follows right after? hissing? whatever its a solid state amp btw

  • @Jasaxos Yes, all unwanted noise will be eliminated!

  • Your demos are awesome short and full of details!! Good job! :)

  • Great demo. Helped me out a lot.

  • will this kill that really high squealing feedback

  • kirks used this pedal :)

  • @jccsi24 okay

  • @jccsi24 who doesn't?

  • Serious question here, I always considerd feedback and static to be from sloppy playing (correct me if i'm wrong) I know its unavoidable when you really start to crank the gain, but is this considerd cheating I mean, it covers up bad playing to an extent.? i'm considering purchasing one so i'd apreciate input. Thanks

  • @StopsCopysMe It just takes away all the unwanted hiss and hum of having high gain or having multiple signals in your chain. you still have to play accurately...i mean if youre sloppy no it wont cover that up

  • @joshtheblueguy Thanks, I've looked into them and they seem really cool. Thanks for responding

  • i think that im gonna brought this pedal... with my EMG pick up and my boss metalzone its hard to dont have somme noises from the pick up or just feedback and fret noise.

  • Thanx for the vid man

  • Does this pedal stop unwanted noise from pickups and/or electronic problems?

  • @puppetmetal yes, it can stop the single coil feedback and anything else that cause unwanted noise

  • @puppetmetal I think so, thats what im looking for and from what I can tell, noise suppressors are what we want

  • got a question, i play in a metal band, and it starts those high tones, for example in breakdowns. does the gate stop this shit?

  • NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS OR "SHOULD BE" TRUE BYPASS!!!!!!!!!

TRUE BYPASS DOES NOT EQUAL TRANSPARENT!!!!!!!!!

    *pants*

    *sigh*

K, got that out of my system, but seriously, the true bypass thing is ideal for some pedals, but it does not always matter, and VERY often your signal will be better and more accurate for having a buffer (or two) in your chain. A good buffer at the beginning and end of your effects chain is ideal - pushes your signal through the pedals and down the backline cable cleanly.

  • Boss NS-2 or ISP Decimator?

YOU tell me what I should get

(include some reasoning for your answer too)

  • @AdamAffliction The NS2 loop system is far better.

  • @PabloDarioLi lol nope. got my decimator now and im stoked on it. and to anyone who is thinking about purchasing a noise suppressor. Get the ISP Decimator. best investment I've ever made for real.

  • yeah that cables do noise too... but oh well the noise suppressor its good but do the gain get to low and maybe would be bad for making solos and stuff with long notes or the gain its still there ?

  • now i am goin to buy very bad cables, and whit this magic pedal .... jejej i am roksssss XD

  • This is the best pedal!

  • I liked how your guitar sounded without the pedal on more than when you turned it on.

  • good vid. told me everything i need to know. cheers dude

  • get the ISP instead... the ns-2 sucks

  • when i play mine it gets louder and quieter, duno why :/ any ideas as to why its doing this?

  • When i play mine gets louder and quiter for some reason :S don't know why and it gets quite annoying :/ any help?

  • yeah i second that, the cables themselves are serious noise makers. so many people get great gear and then buy cheap cables, as they dont think that will make much difference, but does it ever.

  • i thought this would take away the feedback from some heavy distortion pedals im using the deathmetal pedal from digitech and its giving me alot of feedback and i wanted to see if i could get noise to stop

  • um i dont really get what this pedal do can someone explain?

  • @WTFROFLMOA555 It removes sounds that fall below the threshold you set. It puts a "gate" on the "noise." You can't really tell so much with this video, but if you use a lot of gain for your tone a noise gate can be used to cut out feedback, hum, and the sound your pick makes when it strikes the string while still retaining a tone that is very similar to the original.

  • @TheCatcherlnTheRye thanks the the help man

  • NIce demo!!

  • Can anyone tell me why the only time the reduction happens is when my amp is off. i play with a boss metal zone so their is some feedback and the ns 2 doesnt seem to do it. any suggestions? also when the threshold is all the way up why does it have like a second of silence when u start to play?

  • Do the Boss NS-2 X Connection or Four-Cable Method. Keeps the noise away and keeps the sustain.

  • that's a high threshold... imma try this tomorrow. I got the ns2 inbetween guitar and amp and in the ns2's effects loop a maxon od808 overdrive.

  • the chain for my pedals is guitar>ns2> wah>me 50>amp, is this any good?

also i use the input and output, is this ok for the set up i use?

  • thx for that vid much better than the commercial shit!!

  • I know a why how to eleminate all noises : fx send->boss return->boss output->(delay,chrous,..)->fx return and guitar->boss input->boss send->(overdrive,wah,..)->amp input

    The loop should be serial

  • @malcatron ahh so the noise suppressor is basically the same exact thing as a noise gate then right?

  • get some other cabels xD

    those realy arent good

  • What exactly is threshold?

  • @jacksonr015 Threshold is the level at which the noise suppressor turns on/off. Signals above the threshold pass through, signals below don't.

Think of it as a gate in front of your amp where background hum and noise aren't powerful enough to open the gate (below the threshold) so don't get through to your amp, but your playing is powerful enough (above the threshold) so it gets through to the amp.

  • bassplayerkes I need some advice. Im new to effect pedals and all I have is a Telecaster guitar, a 30watt amp from marshall and two effect pedals: an overdrive pedal and this one. How do I connect it with the "send" , "return" Im really confused !

  • @Houston4444 Any source of noise/hum must be before the NS-2 or in it's loop (ie. using the send/return). You only need to use the send/return when you have a more complicated setup which I won't explain here as it'll just confuse you more!

The easiest way for you to set up would be to ignore the loop and just make sure the NS-2 is always the last thing before the amp i.e. Guitar-> overdrive-> NS-2-> amp, using the Input and Output sockets of the NS-2.

  • @malcatron thanks, ive bought this pedal after making that comment earlier. Ive connected them as following:

    Guitar -> (Input) NS-2 -> NS-2 (output) -> |AMP|

    And also:

    NS-2 (Send) --Patchcable--> (Input) SD-1 Super Overdrive (output)-->Patchcable --> (Return) NS-2

This seems to be working ok.

  • @Houston4444 That'll work fine, but it's the same as if you just did guitar -> OD -> NS-2 ->Amp which uses less cables

The loop allows you to cut out hum from your amp as well. This is particularly useful for high gain amps, where your distortion is from the amp rather than a pedal.

guitar -> pedals -> NS-2 Input (to cut guitar & pedal noise)

then put the amps pre-amp in the loop

    NS-2 Send -> Amp input -> Amp effects loop out - > NS-2 Return -> NS-2 output - > Amp effects loop return

  • @malcatron My amp is the MG -30FX by Marshall. It hasn't got an amp effects loop out or anything like that... Ive never understood this before and when I will need to use the 'send' and 'return' after buying more amp equipment I shall look it up and find what I need (hopefully :))

I'll try out the simplified loop you suggest.

Thank you for the helping, man. A good explanation means everything to me.

  • how do you connect this thing with your guitar, an overdrive pedal (which is causing noise) and a 50 Watt Amp from Marshall ?

I don't get the input, output and then the "send" and "return"

    pls help !

  • @Houston4444 The send goes to your pedals and then from there back to the return. Then you go to your amp. This is the only way it makes sense to me. I could be wrong though.

  • So, does this work on that buzz noise if you use a distortion pedal?

And does this take away that screech when you get too close to the amp?

  • God, I really need one of these. When I played in a metal band a while back, I would have to shut off my distortion and turn it on, between long chords, breaks, everything... It got chaotic as hell.

  • oh sweet :D my amp has one of these built in. the more i think about it and find out about my amp the more i love it. i fucking hate the way line 6's look but damn they are awesome

  • @dobby240 do u like ur line 6? I'm getting rid of mine its a bit too digital for me so im gonna upgrade to a bugera TRIREC all tube half stack this summer when it comes out haha from 75 watt solid state 112 toi a 100 watt all tube 414 half stack haha big leap!

  • Does this do the same thing as the Rocktron HUSH?

  • Nice instructional video. Haha, I like the "mute demo" at the end.

  • I have a Marshall TSL JCM 2000, I use DD-20 in loop and NS-2 - TU 2 - Tube Screamer in the front. Is this a good set up? I still have that hum, but I don't want to put the NS-2 in the loop because I use delay. Anyone have suggestions for me?

  • as far as i know u can still use the delay pedal with it, in essence a noise supressor just reduces unwanted feedback i think. dno about the hum

  • @fightstar42 ok thanks, I'll try using it in the loop to see if I like that better

  • maybe a bit noizy @ 1:38

  • Is this what you need to help stop the "hiss" when tapping?

  • @HaySupYo no that's just you needing to learn how to play cleaner haha :P

  • what was the point playing at such low gain in this demo for ppl who play loud distortions!!!

  • how would this work on a bass?

  • i use digitech metal master distortion. i love how it sounds but even when i turn my guitar volume down my distortion gives off a really loud hum and when my volumes up but im not playing anything for a split second it gives off the worst feedback. anyone think a NS would take care of that? or should i just look for a better distortion pedal?

  • yes this noise suppresor would get rid of that

  • @alandaking66 what about ass loads of feedback??

  • yess it gets rid of that too its like magic at the stomp of a foot. most metal players use this petal bands like unearth, lamb of god, killswitch engage, august burns red to name a few. go to your locl guitar center or samash and try one out

  • what's better , the mxr smartgate? the decimator? or the boss( this one ).

  • I play live with a really high gain amp and i get really bad feedback would this pedal help with that or should I look elsewhere?

  • this, isp decimator and mxr smart gate. You choose

  • @paintballmonkey333 this will do the job prety good and it wont suck tone al long as you dont put the theshold to high

  • yes it would help completely

  • ok, but what will it do for the natural noise or hum from a tube amp with NO effects? excuse my noobery, i don't use any pedals.

  • Absolutely nothing. NS 2s are either for pickup noise or pedal hiss, depending on how you set them up.

  • ok, but my amp has a loop out of the pre amp and then back in to the main. will the ns 2 cut out any of the pre amp noise this way?

  • A couple of things to think about. If it only happens when the guitar is pluged in then place it in front of the amp and you're good to go. If it happens even when no guitar is plugged in then you can place it in the effects loop. That will eliminate the hum. I do that in my amp. My OD channel hums so I use the gate.

  • thanks bro!

  • Not sure why people gave me a thumbs down before. Buckethead uses this pedal, so does Malsteem

  • just got this pedal and i really don't know how to use it, but was told i need it. so u think u can help me?

ok i got (starting from the guitar)

    a metal muff ---> boss sd1---> boss ce5--->boss ge7--->boss ns2---> amp.

first question do i use the return/send of the input/output

line. im using the input/output line and i still get massive buzzing/fuzz.

second question. would this level do ok with all these pedals?

    thank you.

  • Plug the distortion pedal in to the NS2 loop, and then run your amp straight to the NS2 output or put the eq pedal between the ns2 and eq if you want. Then run your guitar to the cs5, then from the cs5 to the ns2.

  • has anyone had the problem with it making a siren sound? i've got a setup going Guitar-NS2-Dimedistortion-amp and it makes a siren sound

  • @TStouffer

    try putting it like this

    Guitar - Dimedistortion - NS2 - amp.

    See if that helps.

  • I use an NS-2 on one board and the ISP G string on another. I can honestly say that the NS 2 is about 90% as good as the ISP, if used within reason - ie if your noise floor isn't half as loud as your signal!! Most of the people who bitch about NS-2's don't know how to use them properly.

  • @seagreenyweeny I cant agree more, people say they affect tone but they are made to not affect tone, and if you look at the circuit there is no reason for it to affect the tone what so ever.

  • a metal muff ---> boss sd1---> boss ce5--->boss ge7--->boss ns2---> amp NO

    you need

    guitar--->boss ns2--->other effects--->amp

  • dude can you use this ns2 for a guitar with high feedback and squealing? can it take out unwanted signal like my guitar squeals when i add heavy distortion. my guitar by the way is a telecaster custom with humbucker pick ups.

  • wouldn't it only block the guitars signal? the rest would be humming if one was to use stomp-boxes like Blues drivers, tube screamers, Distortions, etc.... you would be getting signal hum from those since they DO NOT go through the ns2

  • if its good enough for Buckethead then its good enough for me

  • I hope you know it isnt only your gear that makes the sound. It's as much in your fingers as it is in the pedal

  • what is the point of even having the decay nob? everyone just puts it at 0, i dont understand why you would ever need the noise to fade a while after you stop playing. am i missing something?

  • @AraGuitar May be useful when you're soloing.

  • @AraGuitar I have my decay set at around 2 o'clock, want your guitar to sustain and fade out naturally, thats what this knob allows while elimenating unwated noise. different equipment requires different settings.

  • i can see what you mean, but the problem i have is that it basically just take more time for the effect to act, it doesn't fade out naturally; i just sounds like i turn it on a few seconds later... must be my cheap ass setup :P

  • If you want the note to sustain you want the decay up a bit otherwise it will cut it off early. I use a higher decay for leads and lower to no decay for rhythem. It's even more sensitive if you run your volume low to tone down the amount of drive while you play.

  • i'm getting this for sure.

  • @SoadLrg don't get this get the isp noise decimeter the ns-2 sucks tone out of your sound while the isp doesn't check out the isp first before u make your decision

  • @TheLukeDaniel thanks dude i appreciate the info.

  • @SoadLrg no problem there is comparison video as well comparing the ns-2 and the isp so you can really know how it sounds

  • I have a 1968 alamo tube amp which has a shit-load of buzz. I have high quality cables hooked up but i still get buzz. I'm going to buy this suppressor hopefully I'll get a good result

  • the suppressor does absolutely nothing if the amp itself is the source of the hum. you can test this by listening if there's hum with no cable attached to the amp input. if there is, the problem is in the amp's wiring. the suppressor only eliminates hum sourced by the wires and guitar, which in your case should already be minimal :)

  • Not so. If the buzz is from the preamp, and you use the NS2 in the effects loop it will get rid of the noise. If its in the power amp it wont though.

  • Not if you run it through the effects loop. Why do you think they give you that option? To cut down on that hum your amp gets when it's cranked or if your OD channel is really humming a lot.

  • if you want to reduce the buzzing sound you might want to try and invest in some quality cables, because those on the vid seem pretty cheap. it'll probably do more for your buzzing without sucking away your tone.

  • i have monster cables now and still get the same result. Digital pedals and active electronics dont need hq cablesas much as analog systems do.

  • i meant that if you have an entire pedalboard with cheap cables you'll probably have more of a buzzing sound than with quality cables. therefore in a pedal board situation it would make sense to buy better cables. For this test it is not relevant, on this i agree with you

  • @bassplayerkes Its probably my imagination but I did definitely hear a tone difference between the pedal being on an off.

  • will this pedeal cut out feed back?

  • @xx55AC55xx yes!

  • @ravnerv what do you consider quality cables i have a ernie ball cable set

  • The guy at the store said it only works if u have a bunch of other pedals with it. Is that true. The only pedal I use is a boss mt-2

  • no it will work by itself. It takes away that classic strat single coil hum away.

  • @theoutubecelebrity the mt2 is rly noisy when you get the tone you like i know how you feel i definetly need a noise reducer

  • Does this get rid of amp noise?

  • yes it does but it takes some of your tone away if you turn the threshhold up too high

  • pinchi pendejo!!

  • I use the noise suppressor and the MT-2. nice job XD

  • Good job man, helps out a lot with product review

  • would i need to buy a power supply for this pedal?

  • If you have a one spot or a power supply on your board than no. But if you don't than you need a wall plug in, but you can always just use a 9 volt

  • not neccesarily, you can do or you can just use a battery

  • If you don't already have one. If you already have one all you need is a daisy chain.

  • this pedal is unbelievably bad. buy a rocktron superhush C, theyre not that much more but at least you get something that works, this pedal is utterly useless for any high gain applications.

  • I actually like this pedal, I went through a few noise suppressors on my board, and it came down to this and the decimator(which is an amazing pedal but way more expensive) and I have to say I like the NS-2 way more than the superhush, but than again I don't run any over the top gain settings. Did you run is correctly by the way? because I see a lot of people try to use it as a gate and it's not, you have to use the send and return or it will have no effect

  • @satanicboner666

hook it up in an X loop, then tell me it sucks. ;]

  • all time low uses this pedal i think

  • is that you playing louder when you engaged the effect? cuz i heard the ns-2 boosts your signal when engaged.

it sounds reasonable for BOSS to do so, considering it isn't true bypass.

  • Hi men searching a sound like the band Bullet for My Vallentine so they use Ibanez tube screamer and ns-2 pedal.

Could you tell what its better of both because now i can buy 1 of the both so i hope you answer

    :D

  • i would go with the tube screamer first

  • ok thats a good idea but why?? that pedal first?? jajaja

Why its better for metal music ??

  • The tube screamer is going to give you the distortion tone your looking for. The noise gate will only take away unwanted noise, so unless you have the tube screamer first there is no point in having the ns2.

  • Ahhhhhhh ok men that help me alot mate so i tink i gonna buy first the tube screamer tanks!!!!!!! :D

  • Glad i could help. By the way the Tube Screamer is probably one of the best pedals on the market. I think you will be very happy with your decision :)

  • jaja tanks you so much :D

  • @MeXiCaNSpArTaNs tube screamers are fucking awesome!!!!!

  • matt now uses the mxr zakk wyld overdrive.

  • I wouldn't buy a tube screamer if you looking for a metal tone, a tube screamer is not going to give you enough drive, go for like an MT-2 that will get you closer to a metal sound

  • ohhhh yes i know i had the mt-2 and ml-2 and ds-1 pedal jaja but i want now something to get a good sound like complement like the ns-2 or the tube scream :D

  • BY THE WAY... i know operate a channel called Working Man Studios. My sound quality is alot better and if any of you want anything demoed email me there or here and i will post it on workingmanstudios channel. I will no longer be posting here but will get another NS-2 review up. Thanks, Karl

  • i have a question, im playin a type metal where i want feedback but i want to get rid of hiss. will this pedal do that?

  • It should for the most part yes, but this pedal is just a noise gat so when you dont play it wont let a signal through. You should still get some feedback if you get very close to your amp. Watch some Hendrix vids if you dont know what i mean.

  • thanks, if you want to know what type music i was talikng about look up eyehategod, do you think i could do that with a gate or would i have to turn the gate on and off

  • turn off the noise gate when you want feedback. If you want a good noise gate go with the MXR one. It is true bypass unlike this one and is smaller so it gits better on your pedalboard.

  • ok thanks

  • Yeah Jeff Hanneman from Slayer uses as well as many other metal gods!

  • it should

  • i've noticed if my gain and volume is up high and i play a chord and then mute it really quickly to stop it, the amp hisses and makes a really high pitched noise when i mute the note.....will this pedal help control the hiss and the whistling noise?

  • hey man i was just wondering, i have an ibanez tbx 150 head, which is an extremely decent amp for a cheap price but it has horrible feedback when i turn it up past half way if i was to buy this pedal would it definitly stop the feedback?

  • my noise supressor on my amp moddeling software fucks up my sustain does that happen with urs
