i have to agree.. the quality of the finish is crap. My 2006 street bob is a great bike BUT the finish on it is appalling for the price you pay. I have spent a fortune to get the finish (components) up to scratch. even the paintwork is crap.. my rear fender is rusting on the edges and the paint is bubbling up.. i mean whats that about?! on a 3 year old bike?!

I was talking ot a HD mechanic over here who says the quality really has gone downhill on Harleys theese last few year and he DOES know it is. I didnt want to believe that. But of course we hve to be realistic and yes they have Chinese made Tshirts ferchrissake1 BUT Triumph Motorcycles are made in Hinckley Leicestershire - go on their factory tour and they freely admit to outsourcing to Asian factories .. but to THEIR specs first. I think Harley are doing it to keep costs down. Thats the thing!

I just like to hear people's personal definition of "poser" or "poseur" as the case may be. When I'm out on a ride, I care so little about another rider's reasons for being out on the road. it depends what you want the bike for if you want speed you want a sports bike if you want to go touring get a tourer but cruisers are designed so you can just sit back and ride all day in maximum comfort

i have to agree.. the quality of the finish is crap. My 2006 street bob is a great bike BUT the finish on it is appalling for the price you pay. I have spent a fortune to get the finish (components) up to scratch. even the paintwork is crap.. my rear fender is rusting on the edges and the paint is bubbling up.. i mean whats that about?! on a 3 year old bike?!

It probably makes more sense to those in the 'States. Our only gambling "capital" is Blackpool :-) So it doesnt quite live up to Vegas somehow!. Ah well ..... I think if HD started catering for us weenie - shortarses with bikes bigger than the Sportster engine then they will be on a big winner.. but looks like theyre not quite as risk taking as theyd like Joe Public to think! Pity!

I wish I was 6' 4" like the lady in this video ... but I aint .. Im a foot shorter .. so I have a Dyna and a Reach seat.... dammit. Anyway view my vids to see a shortarse CAN ride a Harley too! On crap UK roads too!!!!! And of course we dont HAVE a choice of licence plate placement. But be warned ... HD from 2007 have been sourcing more an more parts from China and the quality is suffering noticeably- lucky I got me 100th Anniversary Superglide when I did, readers!

I was talking ot a HD mechanic over here who says the quality really has gone downhill on Harleys theese last few year and he DOES know it is. I didnt want to believe that. But of course we hve to be realistic and yes they have Chinese made Tshirts ferchrissake1 BUT Triumph Motorcycles are made in Hinckley Leicestershire - go on their factory tour and they freely admit to outsourcing to Asian factories .. but to THEIR specs first. I think Harley are doing it to keep costs down. Thats the thing!

Yeah I think yer right there Ade!. I was at HarleyWorld and the guy there agreed that theyre' certainly outsourcing more than before ... "Its a new era" .. he said. Thing is thats fine if you are charging less .. passing on the savings but HD UK have whacked a whopping 10% on to their TwinCams this month and it shows! So less quality and more money please = Sales Drop. And it wont reverse even when the recession eases. Harley UK are good like that. Its called RipOff Britain for a reason!

"RipOff" indeed. i think they need to focus more on quality and not just profit. Build the HD bike the right way and I don't think customers would mind the price if we get what we're paying for. everybody who buys the HD expects bulletproof quality coz these aren't budget bicycles.

Then why bother when you have a dedicated captive audience and a ready made "heritage" to fall back on. I saw the new Street Bob and in a way it looks better than the previous version - but you can see cutbacks here and there. I suppose if you cant compare ... if you are unclued re the dwindling state of finish .. you wont really notice and be happy to pay for the name on the tank. But now the $ £ rate is getting better for us UK folks HD will have to restructure their pricing.

Victory are ok but quite expensive in the UK (fancy that) and still a bit of a niche market. They do look smart but they are a bit too custom in presentation for dour and boring British biker. And with a poor internet and dealer network then its not looking good. Shame. Also their line up is a bit confusing. Eight balls. Vegas etc. Whats that all about?. Indian doesnt exist here. And now Triumph is going to cash in with their new Thunderbird which could do well. We'll see if lethargy prevails!

I just like to hear people's personal definition of "poser" or "poseur" as the case may be. When I'm out on a ride, I care so little about another rider's reasons for being out on the road. I don't have time or inclination to evaluate them as being a poser or not, and don't even care if it's a sportbike or cruiser, Asian, European, or American. For me, two wheels is two wheels. I just assume they are out for the same reason as me...to have fun.

I am the same way, but when I'm out for a ride and the so called hardly riders make snide comments about me on my rice piece a crap , an say that I'm not proud american, and then I can't find my helmet because it's 50 ft. away in the bushes. And then I see these same people that gave me shit for not riding proud american made HD, driveing there nissan ,toyota's an subaru's. They think they are better than other bikers and you hear all this shit about 'jap crap'.....fact is harley have old underpowered engines and are overpriced. you can sneer at my mt01 but it cost a fraction of a harley and it actually makes some power

CyberToothTiger I like the classic Indians from way back. Bobbers aren't really my style but have seen a few of Big Dog's stuff in one of the magazines and quite the workmanship I must say. Me,..old school Norton's and Triumphs. Probably not your thing though.

Ive seen one Norton in my years around bikes here where I live, got to say, they are old school classics. The guy who owned it redone it and had a really nice looking scoot to be honest. He was working on a Triumph at the time I was at his garage. He also had a whole collection of Harleys from pan heads to evos, and a 88b.

If HD really was PRO USA, they would build quality machines that perform like well oiled machines rather than use out-dated technology, and poor quality standards (not to mention price gouge their cult members). mikisaikano, I have heard that parts for Harley's come from Mexico, Japan or China. I might have the country's mixed up but believe me not all parts are made in US for Harley's.
