@shadowboy696979 put injectors in your truck, and it depends on the year,i had a 95 2500 with the 6.5,i had like 40hp injectors,a 3in DP,to a 4in straight pipe, and a chip from heath diesel performance, and a custom intake with a custom boost switch on the turbo,i was running about 25-27lbs of boost..
Downpipe is stock, I used a universal Stack kit but needed a 2.75-3 inch reducer, the universal assembly goes from-3-4 and flares out to 5 inch to accept the 5 inch Stack
im getting it put on tomorrow if i have the chance. im just going to run 4 inch from the downpipe and the shop is going to make me an adapter from the 4 inch to the 5 inch stack. i dk if i will need a bracket or anything to attach the stack to the bed though.. but as soon as i get it done i will def post a vid
I think a 5 inch stack is just fine on a standard 8 foot bed truck. Now if you have a dually crewcab then I think stacks bigger then 5 inches look badass!
I'm thinking of buying a 1996 GMC 3500 with a 6.5 diesel. I would be towing with it, mostly 12,000 lb cattle trailer. Do you think I would have problems with the engine?
Is it going to be a ranch only truck? If your going to take it on the freeway and up hills then the 6.5 wont cut it. Love the truck but thats the reality.
Your better bet is a Cummins when it comes to a load that heavy or a Duramax if you want to stick to a gm brand.
@jtm3152......the 6.5's are good motors is just you gotta look after them...oil changes an it'll last for ever....my 95 has 520 000km on the motor an it runs like a charm.....i took the electronic fuel pump off an put a machanical one off a 93 6.5 an then put 50hp injectors an 3inch straight pipe on it an i pull a 12 000pd cattle trailer in whick most of the time i just use my 96 1 ton cummins
Yeah it has a turbo, youtube search "6.5 smoke stack tour cam" thats another video I have up and the Turbo whistle in that video sounds just like a semitruck.
im sorry but 6.5's have to be the worst sounding diesels ever put in a pick-up. theyre pretty reliable but damn it sounds like theres bolts and nuts rattling around in the oil pan
The Cummins is a more powerful truck but if your loyalties are with GM and your not going to use this truck to pull a 10,000 pound trailer then this is a great first truck.
A single stack kit is about $800 and a Dual stack kit is $1000. Its easy to do youself as long as you can get hold of a 5 inch hole saw.
I'd like to see a video of this thing "jaking"- my friend has a 93, and if you drop it in 2 when doing around 40, it sounds like it has a jake brake... then you shift it into first... daggonn... hhaa i'd like to hear one with a stack... gotta sound sweet
say I have a 6.2 or 6.5 chevy diesel, will simple things such as 'stacks help improve the amount of black smoke I can blow out? I really want to increase the smoke but not with the likes of switches or bigger injectors...
no, dick for brains, i was talking about having some type of collector halfway up the stack which at idle will restrict a percentage of the exhaust gas, then once you give it some shit it'll blow it out in a cloud of smoke
I love how the older Diesel Trucks sound. You can barely hear the new ones rattle now. You should post up some pics man. There can never be enough older stacked trucks here on youtube =)

i bought a 5 inch miter cut stack today for my truck lol i get it put on next week. do you have the stock down pipe or is it a true 3 inch?

I bought it from "thechromeroom" on ebay.

Their 5's If you watch my walkaround video you'll see them at a much better angle.

@JohnFromSpace
If you wan't a car deep into the 12's or 11's you're going to have to invest in a good transmission build.
If your intentions are mid to low 13's-high 12's Supercharged gets the job done and the stock Tranny might even hold up. It has for me.
The weak lnk on these cars is the transmissions I've seen stock blocks on these motors in the 10's

I think these 6.5s are more mechanical and you can adjust the fuel pump.

Think of a stack as an exhaust. Its pretty much just for looks and will not make it smoke more.
BIGBILL105 2 years ago
you are very dumb i am sorry but exhaust will not get more fuel to the motor

clank...clank...clank...yup its a 6.5. cant mistake that sound. badass soundin truck man
Bkrites 3 years ago
As silly as it sounds that was basically the selling point for me. I always loved the diesel sound, even as a little kid.
I was actually shopping for a GMC with a 4.3 V6 or 4.8 V8 because I wanted 20 Miles per Gallon freeway.
Then I found this truck for a good price and bought it =)This thing has pulled off 22 MPG on long road trips.
